3 Impacting Historical Events of the 1930s The Great Depression hit the world hard in the 1930s. The Nazis took advantage of this situation and were able to come to power in Germany, establish their first concentration camp, and begin a systematic persecution of Jews in Europe. Other news in the 1930s included the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, a wild and murderous crime spree by Bonnie and Clyde, and the imprisonment of Al Capone for income tax evasion. 5 Fashion of the 1930s The fashion of the 1930's was very different than the fashion today. Hats for both men and women were popular for both day and evening wear. Dresses were often cut of the bias to allow a smoother drape of the fabric. Women wore long halter topped dresses, lace frocks, negligees, and corsets. Men wore suits with a matching top hat and over coats.

6 Hair Trends of the 1930s Hairstyles were still quite close to the head with the deep set finger waves. Some were parted in the center, others on the side. Around 1932 the styles began to soften a little bit more; as a play in the waves arrived and a little bit of volume appeared on the scene. All of a sudden, women had full, lush deep waves and started to look sexy.

7 Hair Trends of the 1930s 1930's Hairstyles moved away from the bold, boyish look of the 1920s in favor of softer, curlier styles that radiated voluptuous femininity.

9 Make Up of the 1930s The eyebrows were plucked thin or shaved off entirely. Then the eyebrows were drawn on with an eyebrow pencil extended well toward the temple. To give them a shiny look, eyebrows were then dressed with petroleum jelly, brillantine or olive oil.

10 Make Up of the 1930s Up to the middle of the thirties most popular lipstick colors were light rose, raspberry tones, chinese red and orange tones. In the later 30s primarily bright red tones. The mouth should have full lips with an elongated bow that rounds and flares at the corners. This kind of mouth was called the rosebud mouth, bird mouth, "Crawford Smear" or "Cruller".

12 Today the beautiful Natalie Faison is representing the 1930s. She is wearing a 30s style light pink dress, her hair is a much softer version of a finger wave and her makeup is natural with a pop to the eyes and a dark pouty lip. My Model

13 What this project means for me Doing this project means that I have nearly finished my 1600 hours of cosmetology and that I am basically DONE!!!! How this project helped me This project helped me have a better understanding of the Age of Depression in regards to fashion, hairstyling and even makeup techniques. It was helpful to understand what is coming back in style now that was popular then. Lastly it was important to learn basic hairstyling from back then.

14 What was Easy? This project was easy to complete once I gathered all the information and it was actually pretty fun to learn about this era! What was Hard? The hardest part of this project was getting myself to make time to actually do it.

15 What I didn t believe at the time but turned out to be true I didn t believe this statement until I was actually in a situation where I had to put it to use!
