3 Fair global trade everyone can believe in Our mission has always been about one thing: assuring fairness. Ever since FLOCERT was founded in 2003, we have operated as an independent certification body for the Fairtrade system, ensuring that certified producers and traders around the world comply with the standards set by Fairtrade International. As the global certifier for Fairtrade, FLOCERT checks and certifies the entire product supply chain from crop to shelf. By doing so, we support the Fairtrade goal of empowering small producers in developing countries to improve their trading and living conditions, thereby bringing together producers, traders, brands and consumers. Based on our heritage, knowledge and experience we have evolved into a holistic service provider for a wide range of high-quality verification services. We also shape and build sustainable sourcing strategies, support the development and verification of company codes of conduct, and verify compliance with voluntary standards. The retail value of the products we certified in 2012 was ca. 5 bn. How do we do that? Today more than 80 employees and over 100 auditors deliver our services in 115 countries. We have offices in four continents, serving more than 3,000 customers and supporting small producers as well as traders with dedication and passion. 2

We have direct access to over 1.2 million small farmers and workers in developing and emerging countries, creating a large global network of our customers and partners. 4

7 Constant innovation We take the demands and needs of our business partners seriously: Having created the certification system for Fairtrade, we continue to develop our services to make our approach even more efficient and customer-friendly. For example by introducing a permission to trade for producers, which lets them participate in the Fairtrade system earlier and benefit from it quicker. Or by building expertise in supporting traders, e.g. by certifying their entire supply chain against the Fairtrade standards and thus offering them a unique tool for their risk management. Proven credibility The Fairtrade mark is the most widely recognized and trusted ethical label in the world. This underlines the high credibility of the Fairtrade certification system and of FLOCERT as its global certifier. We are the first social certification body to be ISO 65 accredited, thereby guaranteeing our customers and partners that we are independent and transparent in all of our certification decisions. 6

As Fairtrade s global certification body, here is how we can support you in becoming a part of the Fairtrade system. Fairtrade Certification If you want to trade under Fairtrade conditions, or display the Fairtrade mark on your product, your organization needs to comply with the standards set by Fairtrade International. These standards are based on a number of social, economic and environmental parameters. Fairtrade certification has always been our main role at FLOCERT. It is possible to certify most elements of a supply chain - from farming or production of raw materials, all the way to final packaging. After initial certification, we carry out checks to make sure that Fairtrade standards continue to be met. Gap Analysis This service allows you to identify gaps that could potentially hinder compliance to the Fairtrade standards. This could be before you seek Fairtrade certification or when you are already certified. Training During the certification process, some areas focus on issues which could be quite demanding and need detailed preparation. Our trainers help you to understand the best route to implement Fairtrade standards. Collaboration Just like in life, some tasks are done better with partners, especially when we share goals and beliefs. This is why a number of certification schemes recognize and accept Fairtrade certification as a basis for their own certification: once you are Fairtrade certified, they require no further audit. We also offer audit collaboration, which means that a single audit can check compliance with both our own and our partners standards. 10 Verification Services Our Verification Services support you when it comes to defining, re-engineering or verifying a company code of conduct, as well as verifying other voluntary standards. Code of Conduct Verification With our Code of Conduct Verification we help you demonstrate your company s sustainability credentials by analyzing and auditing your supply chain against your own code of conduct. If you are just embarking on a sustainability process, we can also help you build such a code. In both cases, you not only benefit from our experience and expertise in the area of social and environmental standards, but our international status and credibility as a leading certification body, which will also send a strong message about your company s values to the market. Voluntary Standard Verification If you would like your company s sustainability to be measured and verified against voluntary standards, we can verify against the following: ETI (Ethical Trade Initiative) FTT (Fair Trade Tourism) GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) TE (Textile Exchange) We audit your company based on your required scope to check whether you comply with the standards of the selected partner. After the audit you will receive our detailed report, and our partners will consequently provide the certificate based on our reports. Carbon & Water Footprint Before you can start reducing your carbon emissions or water consumption and contamination, you need a carbon, respectively water footprint to analyze the different sources of carbon emissions and/or water usage and contamination linked to your activities. Efficiently managing these or finite resources such as petrol, gas or water, often results in clear economic savings. The complexity and scope of such a footprint assessment depends on the selected product or process. Among other services, we support you by advising your organization on what exact type of carbon/water footprint would best fit your particular needs, and identify hot-spots where your impact is particularly high, as well as quick-wins.
