7 Practical Approach to Improving ECTS Implementation in Europe Professionals in Doctoral Education: Supporting skills development to better contribute to an European knowledge society - PRIDE Multilateral Lifelong Learning: Erasmus Multilateral UNICA role: WP leader: Dissemination Project period: 1/10/ /9/2014 (2 years) Total grant: UNICA share: Relevant UNICA working group: IRO, EduLab Current activities: Preparation of the project's final dissemination event at the EAIE Conference and the final report Aim: A direct aim of the EGRACONS consortium is to achieve a simple and unified interpretation and implementation of the ECTS grade conversion tables as recommended in the EC s ECTS User s guide since This ambitious project requires a thorough prior study of the variety of grading habits at the EU HEIs, careful selection of data and an identification of a conversion algorithm to enable compatibility of the input and output data. The overall aim of the project is to professionalize administrative staff in UNICA SC meeting Brussels 17 February
8 doctoral education, in order to provide better support to PhD supervisors, PhD candidates and external stakeholders. Objectives of the project are: 1) to collect and analyse needs and good practices focusing on the different roles and responsibilities of administrative staff in doctoral education as well as expectations they are confronted with; 2) to describe in a handbook for professionalizing administrative staff the roles and responsibilities of professionals to highlight their formal status in administrative positions and the potential benefits for institutions; 3) to design a training course for professionalization of administrative staff. All objectives follow a multi-target group approach regarding potential end-users of the results, namely administrators in doctoral education, directors of doctoral schools and programs, HR units, and career service centres. Through the formalization of an international network for professionals in doctoral education the awareness for continuous improvement will be addressed. 9 EUCHINADOC: Enhancing the visibility of European Higher education and strengthening the dialogue and cooperation with Chinese stakeholders in the field of doctoral education Erasmus Mundus Action 3 Aim: To develop a peer assessment framework (PASCL guidelines) for student-centeredness of a higher education institution, which will lead to the award of a European recognition for Student-centred institution. The award is there to confirm that an institution has successfully incorporated the elements of student-centred learning in its teaching and learning strategy and delivery of its education. The project is based on the consortium's commonly agreed framework defining student centred learning and will focus on both enhancement and rewarding excellence in its provision. It will support the project management, including financial management, and assist with the project events and workshops in Europe and in China and disseminate the project results through websites, brochures, newsletters, partner events and other international events. Aim: The overall project aims are to increase the awareness and knowledge about European Higher Education for Chinese higher education actors and to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between European and Chinese stakeholders in the field of doctoral education, training and research.
