2 The Education System Children were taught by their fathers probably about until the 1630s and 1635 because that's when formal schools first appeared. What they learned: Colonists called Deluder Satan Act requiring every town of at least 50 households to hire a teacher of reading and writing. So they learned reading and writing.a town of 100 plus was had to offer grammer schools.so they also learned grammer.and everyone went to school because it was a law to learn how to read,so they could read the bible.they went to school for 2 years.they went to Dame School which was someone's house.

3 Food They Ate The colonist mostly ate corn and products made of corn such as popcorn and oats.they also ate beans, peas, soups, stews, eggs, roles, cheese and cakes. They also ate deer, ducks, chicken, pork and fresh and saltwater fish. What They Ate In The Morning On a farm they ate cider and porridge.in towns they normaly ate cornmeal mush and cider, then Later drank tea and coffee and ate muffins

4 Food Continued The colonist ate cold meat such as turkey. They also ate bread and porridge.the northeast ate fruit pies. They also made jam, baked cookies, and even made candies jam

5 How The Food Was Cooked The food was cooked in a fireplace in their home. There was a little door attached to the fire pit that they would leave open a little to let the smoke out and give the fire oxygen to keep going. Tools They Used The colonist would use the peel,a shovel like tool that let the cook safely put baked dishes into the oven and remove them once baked.

6 The Clothing they Wore Colonial clothing came in many styles. Some of the differences depended on a person's income the wealthy could afford to buy the latest fashions from Europe, while most Americans wore simple clothes and owned perhaps only one outfit for attending church. Religious beliefs also sometimes influenced dress.

7 The Clothing they Wore- Women Women wore long skirts and dress over a nightgown called a shift. Women who worked wore a vest called a bodice. They sometimes might wear a bonnet for a hat. The wealthy wore a skirts with lined with hoops.

8 The Clothing they Wore- Men Men wore breeches, stockings to cover their legs, and a long coat or vest called a waistcoat. Hunters wore fringed shirts and breeches made of buckskin. Businessmen might show wealth by wearing silver buttons. They also wore ruffled shirts. Most men wore hats with wide brims. Like the hats of the Revolutionary era.

9 The Clothing they Wore- Children In the early colonial era, Children wore tight clothes similar to their parents, over time they looser. Both boys and girls wore dresses called frocks but between the ages of three and seven they switched to breeches and a shirt.

10 Toys of the New England Colonies In colonial times toys were different than they are today. The colonists rarely played with what we now think of as toys. They played with walking sticks and flowers. Children made toys from simple things like whistles made of grass. Girls made dolls from corn husks and hickory nuts. Boys prized jack knives and tools whittled from wood. Like us, they played with pets for fun. The settlers also enjoyed playing sports such as football in the fall and sledding during the winter.

11 Toys of New England Colonies #2 Toys purchased from a store were usually too expensive for regular colonists. Only rich people could purchase toys from stores. These store bought toys included fancy doll houses, tea sets and dolls. Both wealthy and regular colonists enjoyed music. A favorite song was London Bridge is Falling Down and other classic songs.

12 Trades and Basic Needs common goods traded were tobacco,timber,fish, and food jobs the colonists had: tinsmith-hammered sheets of tin such as pots and pans silversmith-made buttons,candle holders,dishes, and tea pots coopers-makes wooden barrels,buckets,pails,and tubs blacksmiths-made tools such as:kettles,guns,pots, and pans farmers-grew plants

13 Cool people (Or i you want to, Historical Figures) Anne Hutchinson was born in In Boston,she held meetings among women in Boston.Many community leaders attended. She preached at these meetings.her preaching did not hold with the traditional Puritians religious doctorines. So for that she went to court and was found guilty. And she went to Rhode Island
