2 Maximum recovery and economy with a flux control circuit patent #3,365,599 DINGS FLUX CONTROL CIRCUIT is a breakthrough in the design of magnetic wet drums. Now, it is possible for the first time to eliminate wasted magnetism, and at the same time increase magnetic power. This invention puts more magnetism and all the magnetism into the working area outside the drum shell. TANK DESIGN Tanks are constructed for one or more drums as required and are of three general types as follows: a) Concurrent Tank (see Figure 1-2). (1) Most universally used tank. (2) Used for cobbing, roughing, finishing and heavy media. (3) Longer time in the magnetic field for higher recovery of magnetic materials. (4) Spigot tank allows for rejection of coarse or non- magnetic solids. (5) Long concentrating zone offers high magnetic concentrate cleaning capability. Sketches shown below illustrate the differences between the flux control circuit, which is in all Dings Wet Drums, and the other most widely used magnetic circuits. The sandwich circuit has flux leakage on the back or non-working surface of the assembly. The salient pole circuit has considerable leakage of the flux between the stacks of magnets (between the poles). The flux control circuit has no leakage. Increasing the amount of magnet material in either the sandwich or salient pole circuit, in an effort to achieve more working magnetism, has a severe limitation. The amount of wasted flux increases, too. Increasing the amount of magnet material in the flux control circuit develops more working magnetism and no waste. Result - lower equipment investment and a higher magnetite recovery. Both the sandwich circuit (upper) and the salient pole design (middle) leak magnetic flux. The Dings flux control circuit (bottom) controls flux leakage by the addition of small magnets between the main poles. Figure 1-2. Concurrent Tank b) Counter-rotation Tank (see Figure 1-3). (1) Used on fine grind cobbing and roughing applications (80% minus 325 mesh) where high percentage of non-magnetic is to be discharged, and as a secondary heavy media separator. (2) Magnetic concentrates picked up and immediately discharged. (3) Spigots for removal of coarse nonmagnetic tailings. (4) High recoveries are obtainable with long tailing and overflow launders. c) Counterflow Tank (see Figure 1-4). (1) Used on finishing where quantity of nonmagnetics is at a minimum and ultimate cleaning of magnetic concentrate is desired. (2) Undershot feed, with counterflow wash water added under the discharge lip, washes the concentrate and removes entrained magnetics. (3) All non-magnetics are removed by overflow. (4) Baffles and weirs allow for maximum squeezing and wash of concentrate for highest grade. Figure 1-3. Counter-rotation Tank MAGNET MATERIAL Wet Drum magnetic separators are finished with permanent ceramic type magnets. a) Grade VIII ceramic magnets are used. b) There are 5 pole ceramic magnets of opposite and alternating polarity in standard design. c) Ceramic stacks are assembled to backplate and charged with high energy charging apparatus. DRIVE ASSEMBLY The drive assembly includes a short length shaft extension drive by a standard motor, standard gear reducer and standard V-belts and sheaves. Figure 1-4. Counterflow Tank
