This tutorial is presented to you by Maarten Beerten. In this tutorial I am going to show you a couple of examples of how to make your drawing different. In my previous tutorials, de designs have all been very standard. The cars were shown very clear which is good, but sometimes you do not want to show just your car, sometimes you want to show character or a different angle. In this tutorial I am going to show you a couple of different techniques to make your drawing different. To make it faster, more aggressive or just different. First of I will show you some marker techniques that will give you the ability to make a better environment for your car. Secondly I will show some examples with those techniques in there, so you can choose if you like them, and with that come different drawing techniques. 1 Marker techniques. To do these techniques you need a couple of things. Marker paper, 3 colours that are in the same colour tone, so for example red, orange and yellow, or blue green purple, or light gray dark gray and blue, something like that. Than you need a black marker and a colour that is very different from your other colours you choose the previous line. And last but not least a blender. (Note, a blender is a transparent marker, you use it to make the service of your paper wet before adding colour. Note 2, if you are going to work with markers, think about which colours you want to use, if your right handed, spread the fingers on your left hand, to use it as a pallet, and place between each finger a marker and remove the top, so that you can switch quickly because your ink dries in about 5 seconds so you need to be able to work fast. See the picture below to see how I work normally).

The first technique I am going to discuss is a technique to make speed, the next one will be fading colours. 1B Marker techniques, Speed Speed is a marker technique that is quite simple, but you need to learn how to control it. That can be a bit tricky. To explain this technique properly, I will do so by a little demonstration. Draw a circle on a MARKER paper. Note, only one side of a marker paper is usable, it is the smooth top part, so do not think; o this is bad I turn the page, that is a no go. You will dry out your Markers. Now to give this circle speed we are going to learn a wrist technique that is not very hard to do, but can be tricky to control. I am going to explain it in slow motion, so

read it first complete, before you go and do it. 1 Place your marker on the edge of your shape. (in reality this would take less than a half second!) 2 Now pull the marker towards the opposite direction you want your object to go. When you do this really pull, like some grabs your arm to pull you out of your chair, but that than only in a wrist movement. And not that when you do this you need to leave the paper, do not stay on the paper with your marker. If done properly you should get something like this. (Practice a couple of times to get a nice thick beginning and thin end.)

If you have it under control repeat it a couple of times around the back of the shape so that it looks nice. I went almost around; this is a good practise to see if your movement is controlled. Because the stripes in the front are smaller than those at the back. Now the big advantage of markers is that the colours are a bit transparent. So if you not have very much colours, you can go over the same colour with the same colour, to get different depths in colour. You can also place a light colour first or a light gray, and than a darker colour, Most of the time you first put on a base colour, and than the main colour. To show this I am now going to put a main colour over the base colour. (Note, did you practice? Do you control your wrist? Because now you need to do the same only smaller, so that light green (in my case) is still visible after adding the apple green (in my case).

This should not have taken you very long, and it should not have been very hard to do. 1C Marker techniques, fading. With fading you need your blender. Or at least to get the best result you need a good wet blender. I have done the examples without a proper blender, so the result is not very smooth. (note, read the process first so you know what to do, because speed is of the oat most important, reading and doing is way to slow, because you have latterly seconds to do this right). The basic idea is to make the surface wet, and to keep it wet, so that you can fade the colours in to one other. So to practice, make around 6x6cm wet with the blender, and remember to have the other Marker ready and waiting. Now ad yellow also a couple of layers to keep it wet, and next put the orange next to it, also a couple of layers (keep it wet, and do it very fast), and now wipe with your finger the colours into each other. Note, If you have to go some were important to night, do not do this technique because the ink will fade of your fingers in about 2 days :P.

And if you use very different colour blends, use different fingers. These are the colours I used, these I am going to fade in to each other, and remember I did not have a blender at the time, so my fades will be a bit ruff.

Adding a 3th colour. When fading with your finger, remember: - Do it fast - Keep it wet - Use all your fingers - And keep robbing with your finger, so that you get a faded colour instead of a wet fingerprint - Keep practising because you might need it in very small places like if you want to make flames - If you have small fingers that is an advantage in small places and a disadvantage on large places. These are also without blender with blender the are a lot better, because the colour stays wetter and the colour transition becomes smoother. 1C Marker techniques, examples. The examples are all speed techniques. I also added cars I have done with the blending techniques I did not have different stages of that. Example 1 Draw a very simple car and experiment with the speed techniques.

Now ad a light colour speed stripes. After the light colour ad a darker colour, like so.

You can do the same with the bottom.

Example 2 The stripes can give dynamics. But as you could see from the top drawing it is not a very dynamic pose for the car. So now I am going to show you in steps how I drew a more dynamic angle and than I will add the speed stripes. First of I start with drawing a wheel from the front. But I am going to make the car from the front as well, so the wheel is in the maximum angle. It is going to be a ruff almost cartoon like sketch. Now I have added the wheel arch and the rim Now I added two horizontal lines to keep the car straight and a dot, towards I am going to draw.

This is the basic idea for the car now I am going to put in some of the details. Finally I finished it up with black outlines and blue speed stripes. If you look closely you can see that I have don two layers of the same blue, one layer has long lines the second (top) Layer has shorter lines. If you want to practice some more, try to curve your speed lines, and ad them in to the rim, so that the spokes of the rim look like they are moving. (If you want to do so do not go with the black background in the rim). Example 3 I drew a car from behind looks a bit like a Subaru Impresa. The angle makes the picture stand out. This again is a bit of a cartoon like example.

Know that if you want to make designs like this, you need to know every angle of your car, so draw a car a couple of times so you have a feel for the lines, now you can try and look at those lines from another angle.

In this example I put blue and orange next to each other, this is one of a couple bright colour matches. In classic drawings they say that for example when you draw a green apple, there should be a bit of red in the shading. Because red makes green pop and the other way around. I will now put down the combinations of colours that are the brightest when put together. Note that most of the time it is not a great idea to put these colours next to each other. Red green Blue orange Purple yellow White black A simple way to get to know this about more colours is by typing a word in MS Word, and give it a colour. Than select that word, and it will become the opposite colour. (So red becomes green for instants). Now I will show you some of my old drawings, which will show colour fades.
