1 Biodiversity Information Standards Taxonomic Databases Working Group 2007 Annual Conference September 2007 SÚZA, Bratislava, Slovakia TDWG 2007 Travel This document contains suggestions for travel to the venue and hotels from various entry points and by various modes of transport. All of this information has been obtained from public sources and the organizers of TDWG 2007 can not accept any responsibility for the accuracy. Our thanks are due to Jozef Plachy of the Department of Zoology at the Comenius University in Bratislava for his hard work investigating some of the details. Please note the Slovak way of writing numbers! The decimal separator is a comma (,). The period (.) indicates thousands. For example, in the United Kingdom we would write or in Slovakia they would write 23,5 or 14,-. When you travel by the city transport you need tickets in advance of boarding. All tickets are time tickets. There are 10 minutes, 30 minutes and 60 minutes tickets. 10 minutes ticket costs 14,- SKK (43 euro centimos), 30 minutes 18,- SKK (56 euro centimos), 60 minutes 22,- SKK (69 euro centimos). You can buy tickets in a ticket machine or in a Kiosk. You must use only SKK cash. The ticket machine accepts only coins. If a ticket inspector catches you without a ticket, you must pay 1400,- SKK (Euro 44,- :( So better to have a ticket! At each tram / bus / trolley bus station there is a time schedule. This shows the exact time of arrival of the tram / bus / trolley bus, then all stops, and by the name of each stop is written a number. That is the estimated time to the stop, the length of the ride. So, when you buy a ticket, you can estimate how long the ride will take. When you mark your ticket at the marker in the bus / tram / trolley bus, its period of validity starts for example for 30 minutes when you have a 30 minutes ticket. Taxi in Austria: Example: Funktaxi Vienna Schwechat to Bratislava City By taxi: example This is the quickest but most expensive option and must be booked by or telephone at least 24 hours in advance. The likely cost is about Euro 50,- By bus: Eurolines company From Airport Schwechat to Bratislava Nový Most (translation New bridge:) Bratislava Center Ticket: oneway Euro 10,-; return ticket Euro 20,- Time: 80 minutes The Bus Platform is at Terminal 2 (Abflug) Departure times: 08:15; 11:45; 16:45; 18:45; 20:45 The Eurolines terminal is at Nový Most. The best way to the Hotel Ibis is to walk north along Židovska Street with the castle on the left. The hotel is at the end of the street on the left side. See Fig. 2 - map (See below for details of how to get to the hotels from the main bus station in Bratislava.)

3 Bratislava (M. R. Stefánik) Airport (BTS) Bratislava Airport to Hotel Ibis Hotel Ibis is in the historical part of city. It is possible to walk to the historical part of Bratislava from the tram station Kapucinska, which is very near to Hotel Ibis. The Hotel Ibis is next to the tram tunnel under the Bratislava castle. Taxis park in front of the hotel. 1st possibility: At the Airport take bus nr. 61 get off at Trnavske myto (name of the bus stop). At Trnavske walk through underpass to tram stop - direction centrum. Take tram nr. 9 get off at Kapucinska (name of stop). Walk direction Bratislava castle around 5 min (it is possible to see the Hotel Ibis from the tram stop). 2nd possibility: At the Airport take bus nr. 61 get off at Hlavna stanica (name of the bus stop) (main Railway station). From Hlavna stanica take bus nr. 93 get off at Zochova (name of stop). Walk direction Bratislava castle around 5 min. See Figure 1 Bratislava Airport to Hotel Ibis Bratislava main bus station Mlynske Nivy to Hotel Ibis 1st possibility: At the bus station take trolleybus nr. 208 get off at Kollarovo (name of stop). 5 minutes walk first down the street and the by the tram rails direction centrum to tram station nr. 5 and 9. Take tram nr. 5 or 9 at Vysoka (name of the station where you board) get out at Kapucinaska (name of stop). Walk direction Bratislava castle around 5 min (it is possible to see the Hotel Ibis from the tram stop). 2nd possibility: At the bus station take trolleybus nr. 208 get off at Hodzovo (name of stop). At Hodzovo walk 2 min in the direction of the huge Building called Grasalkovicov Palace to the trafficlight cross the street to the other side and the walk 1 min towards the Main railway station (that means towards the other end of this long street); there is another bus stop. Take bus nr. 93 get off at on the next bus stop called Zochova (name of stop). Walk direction Bratislava castle around 5 min. Bratislava Main railway station to Hotel Ibis (easiest! :) Take bus nr. 93 get off at Zochova (name of the stop). Walk direction Bratislava castle around 5 min. 4 Take bus nr. 41 get off at Šafránova bus stop (terminal bus stop). Walk 5 min along road Drotarska (the main one) in the same direction as the bus was traveling. Bratislava main bus station Mlynske Nivy to SUZA Take trolley bus nr. 208 direction center (on that direction is the huge glass building of a bank) get off at the trolley bus stop Kozia. At this trolley bus stop take trolley bus nr. 203 or 207 direction uphill get off at the trolley bus station Budkova. Walk 5 10 minute by the street Drotarska (on this street is SUZA hotel, nr. 46) Hotel Ibis to SUZA Walk 5 minutes along Zamocka street to the end (it is the curved one) or at the cross road Zamocka and Skarnidlova. Walk to the next cross road. At the end of Zamocka street there is a trolley bus stop called Zamocka and near the second cross road is trolley bus stop called Partizanska (both trolley bus stops are on the same way of the trolley buses nr. 203 and 207). Take trolley bus nr. 203 or 207 direction uphill get off at at the trolley bus stop called Budkova. Walk 5 10 minute by the street Drotarska (on this street is SUZA hotel, nr. 46) See Fig. 3 map Taxis in Bratislava In front of all stations (bus, railway or Airport) are taxis boxes. They are more expensive because of the position! The cost for taxi is: Bratislava Airport Ibis: basic payment 50,- SKK (Euro 1,5) + for each km 27,- SKK (80 euro centimos) Distance: around 10 km 1/2 hour => 400,- SKK (Euro 12,5,) Bus station Mlynske Nivy Ibis and Main railway station Ibis Estimate: 200,- SKK (Euro 6,5) Bus station Mlynske Nivy SUZA Estimate: ,- SKK (Euro 6,25 9,40) In taxis is possible to pay only with Slovak cash (SKK). Car Rental Another possibility to get to the Ibis from Bratislava Airport is to rent a car. At the airport you can rent a car. There are many car rental companies. The lowest prize is around 800,- SKK (Euro 25,-) per day. It is not possible to rent a car at Vienna Airport and cross the border into Slovakia.
