1 EWDTS Conference 2013 General Information You are cordially invited, on behalf of the board of the EWDTS, to Vienna and to the 8th Symposium on Workplace Drug Testing (WDT). With many European countries now developing legislation and guidelines, it is now more essential than ever to keep abreast of the latest developements in the field. The business programme is varied and of a very high quality, human resource issues with a lineup of quality speakers. The sessions are of interest to beginners and experienced practitioners and topics range from the prevalence of drug abuse throughout Europe through the problems of collection, analysis and interpretation; the legal basis and policy-making for WDT and performance impairment, as well as a series of case studies. 2 About EWDTS The European Workplace Drug Testing Society is a forum for discussion When drug testing is being considered or used within a workplace, many people need to understand the process: Employees and their representatives; Human Resources; Occupational Health; Risk Assessors; Compliance Officers; Lawyers (for the company and for the employees); Drug Counseling and Treatment Providers Much of their interest focuses on the way testing is carried out. Workplace Drug Testing involves three link stages - collecting the specimen, analysing the specimen and interpreting the results of the analysis. The EWTDS provides a focal point for the exchange of ideas and information Concerns and misunderstandings can be discussed and resolved European and other reguatory issues can be explored against the background of different cultural and legal expectations New technical developments can be evaluated in conjunction with the people who have to deal with the practical application of workplace policies. The EWDTS was formed in 1998 with two main aims to ensure that Workplace Drug Testing in Europe is performed to a defined quality standard and in a legally secured way to provide an independent forum for all aspects of Workplace Drug Testing The society was formed at the end of the First European Symposium on Workplace Drug Testing, held in Huddinge, Sweden, in March The Society promoted a second Symposium in October 2000, held at San Patrignano, Rimini, Italy, in conjunction with the 6th World Congress of the Rainbow International Association Against Drugs. Most delegates to this second symposium became members of the European Workplace Drug Testing Society.

3 The Venue The Venue The Hotel Vienna Mercure Westbahnhof is situated next to the train station City West, in an impressive location near Mariahilfer Strasse with a fantastic range of shops to choose from. It is also close to Wiener Stadthalle, a venue for international artists, just around the corner from Vienna s top musical stage - Raimund Theater. The Naschmarkt, Schönbrunn Palace, Art History Museum, the new Stadtsaal Theater and Vienna s historical old town are easy to visit by metro and tram. Vienna-Schwechat Airport is located outside the city limits and offers ideal connections to the rest of the world. The express train line S7 and airport express buses will take you into the city and to Vienna s main train stations. 6 Sightseeing in Vienna There is much to see: From Gothic St. Stephen s Cathedral to the Imperial Palace to the Art Nouveau splendor of the Secession, from the magnificent baroque palace Schönbrunn to the Museum of Fine Arts to modern architecture at the MuseumsQuartier. Schönbrunn Palace Concert: 1 April - 31 October - Beginning 8.30 p.m. The Schönbrunn Orangery, built in the 18th Century, provided not only the venue for various imperial and royal celebrations but also for concerts. This tradition is being kept alive in the stunningly renovated Orangery, the longest of its kind in the world, by the Schönbrunner Schlossorchester working with highly acclaimed soloists and dancers giving performances of some of the most famous works written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss.
