Front panel 3 5 INPUT MR8 LOOP SYSTEM L1 L2 L3 L4 L5 C1 C2 C3 STORE INPUT JACK: standard 1/4" mono. This standard unbalanced mono 1/4" jack is used to provide input to the unit. This front input is buffered, and has lower priority than the rear input. 2. LOOP 1-5 & C1-C3 : Tactile switches for activating loop 1-5 and control functions C1-C3 manually. 3. L1-L5 & C1-C3 LED: LED's indicates status of each loop. When lit, the LED indicates that the loop or control function is active. 4. STORE : Tactile switch for saving preset. This function is used when the MR8 is used in Midi Program Change Mode. 5. STORE LED: When lit, this LED indicates that changes have been made to the preset. 6
Rear panel VAC MIDI CTR FUNCTIONS LOOP 5 LOOP 4 LOOP 3 LOOP 2 LOOP 1 IN THRU C3 C2 C1 OUT RTN SND RTN SND IN OUT RTN SND RTN SND IN OUT RTN SND IN LOOP IN JACKS: These are standard 1/4" mono jacks that are used to provide input to the audio path for each particular loop or series of loops. Each loop is automatically fed from the output of the preceding loop internally, providing no need for external wiring, unless a different configuration is desired. The insertion of a plug into the jack to change the configuration will defeat the automatic internal path at that point in the system. 2. LOOP SEND JACKS: These are standard 1/4" mono jacks that are used to provide switchable outputs to any external device input. 3. LOOP RETURN JACKS: These are standard 1/4" mono jacks that accept the output of any external device. The insertion of a plug will break the internal normalling to the Send jack. 4. LOOP OUT JACKS: These are standard 1/4" mono jacks which provide an output of the audio signal for each individual loop or series of loops. The output is automatically fed to the input of the next loop internally, requiring no need for external wiring, unless a different configuration is desired. 5. C1-C3 JACK: standard 1/4" stereo jack. The control jacks are directly connected to relay contacts. This allows these jacks to be used to control outboard devices which have footswitch functions. C1-C3 is set up to either accept a stereo or a mono plug. When using a mono plug, the tip will work as a normally open contact. When using a stereo plug, you can choose between the tip (normally open contact) or the ring (normally closed contact). The C1-C3 jacks are isolated from the rest of the unit to prevent the formation of ground loops. 6. MIDI IN: standard 7 pin din connector. The MIDI IN connector must be connected to the MIDI Out Connector 7
Rear panel CONTINUED of a transmitting MIDI device via a standard cable, in order for the switching system to respond to MIDI commands originating from these devices. Pin 6 and 7 of the din connector feeds 9VAC to the transmitting MIDI device if desired. If you do not want to feed 9VAC to the transmitting MIDI device, just use a standard 5 pin din connector. 7. MIDI THRU: standard 5 pin din connector. The MIDI THRU connector will forward the incoming MIDI data to any MIDI device. 8. 9VAC: standard 2.1mm DC barrel. 9VAC/1A input. 8

Loop Configuration EFFECT BYPASS CONFIGURATION This is the most common loop configuration. The device is patched by connecting the Loop Send jack to the input of the device, and the Loop Return jack to the output of the device. The device is IN when the loop is activated (LED on), and the device is BYPASSED when the loop is out (LED off). INPUT MUTE CONFIGURATION This configuration is very useful when operating with an external Line Mixer. The device is patched by connecting the Loop Send jack to the input of the device. The output or outputs of the device is connected to the Line Mixer. This ensures that when the loop is activated (LED on) the effect receives a signal from the Loop Input, without breaking the signal chain. The Loop Input signal is still fed to the Loop Output. When the loop is out (LED off) the effect no longer receives any input signal, but the output of the effect is still open, ensuring that the effect will "tail out". 10
Loop Configuration CONTINUED A/B OUTPUT SELECT CONFIGURATION There is different ways of setting up the A/B configuration. Here is shown the A/A+B Output Select configuration. When the loop is activated (LED on) both the A and B amplifier will receive the signal from the Loop Input, and when the loop is out (LED off) only the A amplifier receives the signal from the Loop Input. If you prefer a genuine A/B Output Select configuration, rather than the A/A+B, simply plug in a shorted jack plug in the Loop Return jack. Now, when the loop is in (LED on) the B amplifier is active, and when the loop is out (LED off) the A amplifier is active. You can also achieve an A/B Input Select configuration by using the Loop Input and the Loop Return, if you i.e. want to A/B select between two guitars. Loop in (LED on) and the Loop Input is active. Loop out (LED off) and the Loop Return is active. The Loop Send is not used. B A 11
Control Functions The relays used for the control functions in the MR8 Loop System configured as follows: The normally open contact is the TIP of a T.R.S. Stereo 1/4" Phone Jack. The common contact is the RING of a T.R.S. Stereo 1/4" Phone Jack. The normally closed contact is the SLEEVE of a T.R.S. Stereo 1/4" Phone Jack. Below is shown what type of cable to use, depending on the configuration. Fig.1 shows a standard mono cable for normally open control functions. Fig.2 shows the type of cable to use if you want normally closed control function. Finally fig.3 shows the type of cable to use, if you want to use any of the control functions (C1-C3) on the MR8 Loop System as Audio Mutes. 12
Midi Control Assignments The MR8 Loop System only recognises MIDI data sent on MIDI channel 1. Controlling the MR8 Loop System via MIDI Program Change Make sure your MIDI Foot Controller or Controlling device is sending MIDI data on channel 1. Activate the loop/control functions on the MR8 Loop System you wish to use via the tactile pushbuttons on the front panel, and press STORE. The combination is now stored in the MR8 Loop System. Controlling the MR8 Loop System via MIDI Control Change Make sure your MIDI Foot Controller or Controlling device is sending MIDI data on channel 1. Below is a list of the MIDI Control data recognised by the MR8 Loop System. L1 = MIDI Control #11 L2 = MIDI Control #12 L3 = MIDI Control #13 L4 = MIDI Control #14 L5 = MIDI Control #15 C1 = MIDI Control #16 C2 = MIDI Control #17 C3 = MIDI Control #18 These MIDI controller numbers are pre-programmed in the microprocessor inside the MR8 Loop System. The MIDI controller numbers can be changed by software revision. If you require different MIDI controller numbers, please contact the factory for details. 13
