5 . Two Mode ( and Music) In the two amplifier mode, e amp serves as the paging amplifier and the other as the background music amplifier. The paging or music signal is sent to the external amplifier, returned and the amplified signal is switched by the ZPI- to the correct ze or zes. Advantages: Any size amplifier may be used when driving 70V speakers, ly () amplifiers (or e stereo amp) are required for zes, background music is selectable per ze, and the npaged zes will ctinue to to get music during a page. Diagram 9 FOUR ZE PAGING INTERFACE Limitatis: The paging amp needs to be limited to 00 watts and the music amp needs to be limited to 70 watts when switching 8 ohm speaker loads, each speaker ze is limited to 8 ohms minimum impedance and the amp must have the ability to drive the speakers of all zes. (Example: zes at 8 ohms per ze equals a ohm load during an all call.) OPTIAL PAGING AMP ELECTRICS HUDS, WI 506 OPTIAL AMP.8 VAC PWR To set up the ZPI- in the two amplifier mode: Step. Attach the ZE screw terminals to the speaker(s) for Ze. Step. If background music is to be enabled this ze, ensure that the ZE music shunts are in place, covering both pins. If background music is not desired, remove the shunts. Step. Repeat steps and for each of the remaining three zes. Step. Attach the paging amplifier and the music amplifier as shown in the diagram. Step 5. Set DIP switch to. Ze Ze Ze Ze Music Input Output Input Output. Single Mode In this mode, e external amplifier handles both paging and background music. An internal relay capable of switching between paging signal and music signal sends input to this amp, the amplified signal is returned and the ZPI- sends it to the correct ze(s). Advantages: Any size amplifier may be used when driving 70V speakers, ly e amplifier is required. Limitatis: The amplifier needs to be limited to 00 watts, each speaker ze is limited to an 8 ohm minimum impedance, the amplifier must be able to drive the speakers of all zes (Example: zes at 8 ohms per ze equals a ohm load during an all call); if background music is used, all zes will receive background music and it will be muted in all zes during a page. Diagram 0 FOUR ZE PAGING INTERFACE OPTIAL PAGING AMP ELECTRICS HUDS, WI 506 OPTIAL AMP.8 VAC To set up the ZPI- in the single amplifier mode: PWR Step. Attach ZE screw terminals to the speaker(s) for Ze. Step. Repeat step for each of the remaining three zes. Step. Attach the paging amp as shown in the diagram. Step. Set DIP switch to the positi. This tells the ZPI- that it is operating in the single amplifier mode. Ze Ze Ze Input Output Ze 5

6 C. Multiple Units While the ZPI- is a four ze paging unit, it may be cascaded with an additial ZPI- for a total of up to eight paging zes. 7 Operati A. Initiating a Page. Trip To access the ZPI- for ring trip paging, call the PABX/KSU stati number the ZPI- is cnected to. The ZPI- will answer the first ring, produce dial te (if enabled) and await Touch Te entry for 0 secds. If there is a Touch Te entry, the ZPI- activates the selected ze(s). If there is no Touch Te entry in 0 secds, the ZPI- discnects.. from an Unused Phe System Trunk Input To make a page with the ZPI- installed a spare trunk port, simply access the trunk cnected to the ZPI-. The ZPI- will produce dial te (if enabled), wait for Touch Te entry, and activate the selected ze(s) when it sees a Touch Te entry.. from a Phe System s 600 Ohm Port To page in this situati, access the phe system s paging port. The ZPI- will detect that a page is being initiated and wait for a Touch Te entry. When it sees an entry, it activates the selected ze(s). B. Selecting Zes. Selecting Zes with One ZPI- Enter a single Touch Te to select the ze or zes to be paged. After this entry has been made, the ZPI- activates the selected ze(s). See diagram to the right. Touch Te Ze(s) (All). Selecting Zes with Multiple ZPI- s C. To page all zes, enter a Touch Te 0. The ZPI- will activate all zes to which it is cnected. Otherwise, enter two Touch Tes, with the first selecting which ZPI- is being addressed, and the secd selecting which zes cnected to that ZPI- are to be paged. If a Touch Te is entered as the first digit, the Master is selected. If a Touch Te is entered as the first digit, the Slave is selected. See diagrams to the right. Touch Te Touch Te 0 Touch Te After there has been a Touch Te entry, the ZPI- activates the selected zes and produces a paging alert te (if enabled). At this point the page can be spoken into the handset of the phe. In a RING TRIP or PAGING PORT WITH- OUT CTACT CLOSURE applicati, it is necessary to keep in mind that there is a time limit the page, set by the TIME OUT ADJUSTMENT. Also, in these two applicatis, the VOX voice detect circuit will discnect the page if three secds of silence elapse during the page. When finished paging, either dial a touch te # or simply hang up. Unit Ze(s) Unit All Ze(s) All Unit Ze(s) D. Night / Loud ing If a night ring ctact closure is cnected to, or a night ring line is cnected to the terminals, the unit will produce a warble te in all zes when a ring signal is detected. The priority of unit operati is as follows: ) Loud, ) Voice, ) Background Music. 7
