2 Here is our comprehensive product range dedicated to MV distribution and earthfault compensation. Self-protected TPC transformers (with and without built-in inductance), are commonly used to revamp existing substations. The use of such transformers into conventional enclosures is now recognized by Swedish EBR recommendation KJ59:08. The ECOBLOC prefabricated substation features all the options to allow perfect matching with new enterprise, such as putting underground of the MV line in rural areas. It is now recognized as type SSM by new Swedish EBR recommendation KJ59:08. Earth fault compensation issues are covered both by our transformers and substations to be installed on the feeder ( local compensation ), or into the HV/MV source substation itself ( Global Compensation by Arc Suppressing Coils with electronic controller). 3 TPC SELF-PROTECTED TRANSFORMER 1 The advantages of a built-in fused 3 phases tripping function will gain more and more importance with the generalization of the compensated MV neutral grounding: many transformer faults would not be enough energetic to keep efficient conventional external fuses. Moreover, handling and maintenance of these external fuses are already problematic and acceding to them with all required safety may be hard to achieve. Thanks to maintenance free TPC and a pre-established selectivity scheme, interventions from the operators can be limited to the ordinary ones on the LV side only. The three -phase tripping in the event of a transformer fault is designed for preceding the tripping of the whole feeder, restricting hence the loss of supply. TPC has also found interesting cost-saving complementarities with SF6 free MV switchboards, facilitating their use also into rural areas. TPC offers both reliability and safety thanks to the conformity to the IEC self-protected transformers international standard, where performance levels and tests are clearly defined. 4 EQUIPMENT FOR LOCAL COMPENSATION The specific challenges faced by the distributors in Northern Europe are mainly entailed by very long MV underground feeders. Local compensation allows keeping the size of the Arc Suppressing coil located inside the HV/LV substation within reasonable limits. When cable length is such that the capacitive current even in the absence of a fault may create damages, permanent compensation can be achieved by a shunt reactor. TPC has here an additional important part to play by making possible the localization of a faulty inductance by tripping the LV supply. Actually, an un-revealed faulty inductance would generate harmful and safety- hazardous high residual current in the event of a fault to earth. 8 AsC : ARC SUPPRESSING COIL with AUTOMATIC CONTROLLER 4 The main advantages related to this new concept are the following: - Gathering into the oil bath of one touch proof package machine only, of the usually separated 4 equipments : Neutral builder, auxiliary transformer, resistor, adjustable inductance - As a result, the residual active current component of the WHOLE system is perfectly put under control, allowing perfect accuracy and demonstrable respect of the safety regulations - Cost saving for the installation work, making unnecessary protective fences, or a sectionnalizer which would be dedicated to a separate resistor - The connection of the package machine to the three phases of the network (thanks to the builtin inductance) allows to keep the AsC in operation even when a transformer is out of duty - The measurement means also included into the package machine (VTs and CT), can be used to secure the supply of the feeder protections themselves. The efficiency of the tuning is optimum even for "highly balanced networks" thanks to a built-in "switchable" capacitor placed between one phase and the earth. Arc Suppression Coil Controller (ASCC) Arc Suppression Coil (ASC) Optic fiber Inside the Relaying Building Outside on site Main features: 8 - Extra-speed communication and easy connection work by optic fibre HMI - Convivial monitoring interface for local operations - The launching of the automatic procedure to determine the resonant point can be achieved either automatically (by setting the periodic interval), or after pre-set variation of the residual voltage, or by local or remote commands - The seeking is performed with an accurate and extra-rapid algorithm based on a circle method which requires only 3 variations of the AsC position to determine the exact tuning point - The resonant curve, residual voltage and computed active current are displayed on a Graphical 30 x 40 colour TFT - Tuned position and residual voltage are taken out on a 4-0 ma current loop - Earth faults are also detected and indicated - Recorded events are stamped and dated (500 max), as well as the last resonant curves (0 max.), allowing the keeping of statistics (possibility to connect a PC to the CPU serial interface RS3 on the front panel) - Alarms are displayed and taken out on contacts outputs - Convenient graphical help for maintenance purpose, possibility for manual tuning by rough or accurate scanning, set-up of over or undercompensation shift, master / slave parallel operation, etc
