2 The British Bankers Association An Introduction The BBA is the leading UK banking and financial services trade association and acts on behalf of its members on domestic and international issues. Our 200 members and associate members are from 60 different countries and collectively provide the full range of banking and financial services. Banks in the UK work closely with borrowers, savers and businesses. We operate more than 150 million personal current and savings accounts and help to enable financial inclusion by providing 9 million basic banking accounts. 30,000 bank-operated ATMs allow 187 billion of cash to be withdrawn annually, while 45 million people have access to manage their finances online. We hold almost three quarters of all mortgages in the UK representing over 8 million homes. The banks have some 3.9 million active smaller businesses banking with them Representing banks and financial firms as an industry body, the BBA's mission is to promote healthy competition that benefits both members and consumers. We achieve this through our core roles of relationship building, influencing, promoting and defending the industry, providing leadership through information and guidance and delivering value-added services. With the active participation of its members, the BBA works to foster an environment in which financial services are valued and can prosper. It achieves this by influencing the shape of the regulatory and legislative framework through dialogue and partnership, informing members on how developments will affect their businesses, and promoting public understanding of financial services and financial literacy. 3 Professional Associate Membership Professional Associate membership of the BBA is open to all firms operating in the banking and financial services community. Current associate membership is made up of firms from a variety of sectors including legal, accounting, consultancy and technology. They all have one thing in common; a desire to participate and share information amongst their peers from the banking community. All the activities that Associate firms participate in add value to the full membership of the Association. This constant reinvestment helps all members of the BBA achieve their business objectives. Key Features of Professional Associate Membership Being a member of the leading trade association for the banking and financial services industry has many benefits, whatever the size of your organisation. These include: Centralised Information Through our on-line members area, you are able to access a wealth of information, as an associate member. This resource accessed through the BBA website and contains up-to-date information and guidance relevant to you and your organisation. You will find BBA policy responses, briefing papers, research guidance and best practice information. Registration on the site is easy, automatic and immediate. Industry Updates Within the members area, you can also sign up for the alert service which helps you keep on top of the updates that have been added to the site. The BBA runs a number of Contact Groups covering a long list of topics. As an Associate, you are entitled to receive information via the Contact Groups on as many of these topics as you wish. The BBA produces a wide range of consultation responses that focus on key topics on which the secretariat has been working on behalf of members. It also provides details of up and coming events, the BBA views in the News and a review of activities in Westminster. Associates are invited to submit articles/ blogs for the BBA Insight. The article can be on a subject of your choice, providing of course that it is of relevance to the members. Full credit is given to the author and firm, creating a valuable opportunity to raise your firms profile. BBA Events The BBA organises and runs a significant number of events each year on a wide variety of topics. There is plenty of opportunity for Associates to speak at these events or appear as a panellist. The BBA Conference team regularly sends out details of events that are in the planning stage to Associates. Upon receipt of this, Associates can contact the BBA and ask to be considered for a speaking slot. BBA events are categorised into Briefings, Seminars and Conferences. Attendances vary from 50 to 150 senior level delegates depending on the nature of the event and the subject matter. Firm Profile on BBA Website All Associates are allocated a dedicated page on the BBA website. This page is for you to populate with information about your firm, your fields of expertise, logo, contact details, successful case studies, photographs and anything you want to encourage BBA members to get in touch with your firm. The page also contains a link to your own website. The more you keep the site up-todate, the better the chance member firms will find you. Full details on how to make the most of your webpage is included in the Associates welcome pack. Press Release announcing your organisation has joined the BBA When you first join the BBA, the Association issues a Welcome mention in BBA Brief. This is done in conjunction with your press team. It s a very positive first step to creating awareness of your firm to members and other financial services firms alike. Associate Briefings Associates are invited to the BBA to meet the Policy Directors who then provide an update on some of the key issues affecting the members today. They are informal affairs affording the opportunity to ask questions of the Policy Directors and to network.

4 Additional Features of Associate Membership Discounted Room Hire Associates are able to hire meeting and conference rooms at Pinners Hall at heavily discounted rates. Pinners Hall provides an excellent venue whatever the occasion - conference, training workshop, board meeting, press launch, reception and the first class catering is all in-house. Full details on Pinners Hall are included in the welcome pack. Discounted Event Fees As an Associate Member, you are allowed discounted access to all BBA events, only paying the member rate. In addition Associates are given first refusal on all BBA sponsorship opportunities that arise. Attendance at BBA events, as a delegate or as a sponsor also presents good networking opportunities and allows you to get closer to the members. Access to BBA Policy Directors The BBA Policy Directors are only a phone call or away. If you have a particular query concerning an issue that is affecting the financial services arena, then you can direct your enquiry to the team here at BBA who will be happy to help. Full details of the Policy Directors and the issues they manage are provided with the welcome pack. BBA Speakers Finally, if you do run your own in-house events, it may well be possible to have one of the BBA Policy Directors speak at the event, providing an update on a particular topic of interest. This is of course subject to diary commitments. Benefits of Associate Membership at a Glance Information intelligence that you can use to help your clients Profile raising - to help you develop new client relationships Networking helping you to strengthen your existing relationships Publicity via your web page on the BBA site and the web release, creating awareness Associate Membership Fees Professional Associate membership is on a corporate not individual basis, which means if a firm is a member then every single representative of that firm across the world is also a member. Subscription fees are based on headcount of the number of employees working for the firm in the UK. A subscription table is given below: Number of Staff Membership Fee , , ,000 Fees are per year and are invoiced in advance at the start of each calendar year in the month of January. The fees exclude VAT and organisations joining mid-year are charged on a pro-rata basis.

5 Applying for Associate Membership Applying is easy. Simply complete the application form and return it to BBA. If your application for membership is accepted, an invoice will be sent for the period of membership running up to the end of the calendar year. Upon receipt of payment, information is despatched and set-up work starts immediately on helping you get the most out of BBA membership. Frequently Asked Questions Can I join BBA Committees? Associates are generally excluded from BBA committees and working parties. However, on occasion, a BBA Policy Director may invite a representative from an Associate firm to participate on an ad-hoc basis. Can I sit on the BBA Council? Members of the BBA Council come from the full membership only and therefore Associates do not have a seat. How do I renew my membership? Each January, a letter will be sent to you along with a subscription invoice asking you if you wish to renew your subscription. In the event you decide not to, then simply contact the BBA by or letter and confirm your decision. If you decide to remain in membership, simply arrange for payment to be made against the invoice. What happens if I want to resign my firm s membership? In the event you wish to terminate your membership, simply send written confirmation to the BBA of your intention. If your resignation is received before the calendar year end, you will be refunded for that portion of the membership that you haven t used. Are subscription fees negotiable? Subscription fees are set by the Board of BBA Enterprises Ltd and are non-negotiable. How can I ensure I get to speak at BBA events? Simply keep in touch with the BBA Conference Team. Ideally, appoint someone in your marketing team to co-ordinate your BBA activity. That way the BBA can send through details of opportunities to someone who is well situated to respond on behalf of the firm. How do I make sure I get the best out of my membership? That s easy. Communication. Think of BBA Enterprises as an extension of your marketing department. If you update something on your website, make sure you notify BBA so we can update your own page on the BBA site. If you have held as successful in-house briefing, let BBA know. We may be able to run it again but on a wider scale. Use the Policy Directors and the BBA website for information needs. If you want to find something out but can t find it on the web, then the BBA to find out more. Not sure what to do now? If you believe membership of the BBA is right for your firm, but would like to discuss it in more detail, get in touch and arrange a mutually convenient time to meet. Please contact: Jason Cole, Commercial Director, on or jason.cole@bba.org.uk
