Overnight: Flight DAY TWO WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1, 2016 ARRIVAL IN BUDAPEST Arrive at Budapest International Airport. Group transfer to the hotel. (Group transfer to be determined based on flight arrival times of the participants.) 2:00 p.m. Meet in the hotel lobby to begin the program. Drive through the city and across the river. Ascend Castle Hill to view Budapest from atop the Fisherman's Bastion. Check into the hotel. LaDa'at Focus Looking at the Ever-Changing Map of Europe: Welcome dinner and orientation dialogue with your tour educator, including overview of itinerary, themes, narratives and goals. Overnight: Budapest DAY THREE THURSDAY, JUNE 2, 2016 JEWISH LIFE IN BUDAPEST LaDa'at Focus Learning the context: Discussion with political analyst Gabor Gyori on socio-economic and political trends across Europe, Hungary's place within Europe, anti- Semitism and the implications for the Jews of Hungary. Explore the Story of Jewish Budapest over the past 150 Years, including visits to: The Dohany Street Synagogue, the largest in Europe. The Jewish Museum, housed on the site of Theodor Herzl's birth. The Community Holocaust Memorial. Lunch on your own in the Jewish quarter. Guided walk through downtown Budapest, including Liberty Square and a special tour of the Hungarian Parliament building. Stop at the Shoes on the Danube Promenade, a memorial created by Gyula Pauer and Can Togay on the Pest side of the Danube, honoring the Jews killed by the fascist Arrow Cross militants during World War II; the memorial represents the shoes left behind on the river bank as they fell into the river after being shot. LaDa'at Focus Meet with young Hungarian Jewish leaders for a discussion on topics such as: Can Anti-Semitism and Jewish renewal work together? What's your vision of Jewish life for the next generation? (Participants could be JDC or JAFI beneficiaries/program participants.) Dinner on your own and evening at leisure. Overnight: Budapest DAY FOUR FRIDAY, JUNE 3, 2016 FROM BUDAPEST TO PRAGUE Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Depart Budapest and drive west. City tour of Bratislava, the political, cultural, and economic center of Slovakia. Lunch on your own in Bratislava. Continue the drive to the Czech Republic. Arrive in Prague and and stop at Vysehrad Fortress for a panoramic view of the city. Check into the hotel. Kabbalat Shabbat services with a local Progressive congregation. Shabbat dinner with MASA and Taglit-Birthright alumni for a discussion on the Jewish community in Czech Republic today and a look into the future. Overnight: Prague DAY FIVE SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2016 CITY OF 100 SPIRES walking tour LaDa'at Focus The Jewish Community of Prague - A Millennium of Complex Coexistence with your tour educator. Transfer to the Prague Castle for a guided tour of the Castle, an overview of the City of 100 Spires and a walk along the Golden Lane. Walk through the Lesser Town and over the Charles Bridge. Lunch on your own, en route. Walking tour of the Old Town Square. View the famous 14th century Astronomical Clock and Prague's Art Nouveau architecture around you.

Overnight: Prague DAY SIX SUNDAY, JUNE 5, 2016 THE GLORY OF JEWISH PRAGUE walking tour An Inside Look into the Czech Republic- Politics, Economics & Society Dialogue with Mr. Peter Brod, former BBC Bureau Chief and Radio Free Europe activist. Guided visit through Jewish Prague, including the Old Ghetto and the Precious Legacy Exhibit at the Jewish Museum, which encompasses the Altneu Shul, the Maisel Synagogue, the Pincus Synagogue, the Old Cemetery and the Spanish Synagogue. Lunch on your own, en route. Afternoon and evening at leisure to explore Prague on your own, with the opportunity to: Bike along the river. Take the funicular up to Petrín Hill for great views of the city from Petrín Tower and a stroll through the Rose Garden. Visit art galleries. Visit the Franz Kafka Museum. Take a boat ride on the Vltava River. Overnight: Prague DAY SEVEN MONDAY, JUNE 6, 2016 MEMORY & CONTINUITY Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Depart Prague and drive to Terezin. Visit Terezin, the town that was turned into a ghetto and concentration camp, including the Historical Museum and the Art Exhibits, the so-called Hidden Synagogue and the Crematorium. Overnight: Berlin DAY EIGHT TUESDAY, JUNE 7, 2016 BERLIN - PAST & PRESENT Explore Berlin's rich history on a tour of East Berlin, including: Visit Alexander Platz, the city center of former Socialist East Berlin. View the St. Nikolai-Kirche, (St. Nicholas' Church) the oldest church in Berlin. Walk along Unter Den Linden, the grand central boulevard in the Mitte district. View the famous Humboldt University and visit the Book Burning Memorial at Bebel Square. Visit the Boros Collection, a private collection of contemporary art by international artists dating from 1990 to the present. Different facets of the collection have been on public display since 2008 in a converted WWII bunker. Lunch on your own, en route. The Brandenburg Gate, originally commissioned by Friedrich Wilhelm II to represent peace, the gate was ironically incorporated into the Berlin Wall during the years of the Communist regime. Perhaps Berlin's best

5 known landmark, it now stands as a symbol of the city's reunification. The Holocaust Memorial, the Monument to the Murdered Jews of Europe - designed by architect Peter Eisenman, this undulating field of reflection with thousands of concrete dark gray slabs forms a gentle wave, ankle-high in some places, designed to give visitors a sense of groundlessness and of a loss of orientation; the memorial also includes a subterranean information center at the edge of the site which houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Visit Checkpoint Charlie, one of the best known crossing points between East and West Berlin during the Cold War. Visit the East Side Gallery, a part of the former Berlin Wall now serving as a memorial of 150 wall paintings from a slew of international artists. Return to the hotel. Overnight: Berlin DAY NINE WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8, 2016 JEWISH LIFE IN BERLIN LaDa'at Focus Progressive Judaism in Germany Today: Dialogue with Prof. Rabbi Walter Homolka, Director of Abraham Geiger College, the first liberal rabbinical seminary in Continental Europe since the Holocaust Guided visit to the Jewish Museum of Berlin, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind. One of the most conspicuous architectural landmarks in the city, it embodies remembrance, melancholy, and departure. Walk along Grosse Hamburger Strasse, once the center of Berlin Jewry. Lunch on your own, en route. Tour to Jewish sites in East Berlin including: The Hackescher Markt The Jewish Cemetery, including Moses Mendelsson's grave The site of the Women's Protest on Rosenenstreasse Visit the Museum of Otto Weidt's Workshop for the Blind, a haven for Jews during the Holocaust years in Berlin. Visit the New Synagogue and the Centrum Judaicum, one of the most important locations for contemporary Jewish life in Berlin. Return to the hotel.
