The teacher s policies regarding extra help should be noted in the syllabus. Q. Proctored Quizzes and Exams- Each course is created differently and students will be informed as to whether a quiz is password protected (to be entered by the proctor), proctored online, or open (non-proctored). All locked or proctored quizzes and exams are required to be taken in an authorized testing environment where a proctor is observing the students at all times (unless a remote proctoring service is being used). Students who do not comply with the rules above are considered to be cheating. Disciplinary action will be taken by Jefferson-Lewis BOCES and/or the student s school district. R. AP Courses may be weighted differently than high school classes. Please check with your school counselor for specific information. S. Technology Access: Students taking online classes in their regular class schedule will need access to a computer during normal school hours at the discretion of the local school district. Students working outside the local school setting must have access to equipment that meets the minimum requirements. Minimum requirements are a computer with high speed internet access. Students may be provided with a laptop on loan from the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES if needed.
3 J. Technical Difficulties: Each student is responsible to be active within the course. This requires submitting assignments, completing quizzes, exams, discussions, as per the scheduled dates. During the course orientation, students will learn about basic trouble shooting and procedures to follow in the event of difficulties. Students having computer or technical difficulties are required to notify the teacher or elearning specialist to report the problem immediately. The teacher and/or elearning specialist may contact the student s school to discuss the issue and make arrangements with the school for computer access while the student s problem is solved. The student is still required to submit the work as per the scheduled due dates. Failure to submit work as scheduled may result in a zero or point deductions, depending on the teacher s classroom rules. K. Student Evaluation and Grading: 1. Grading: Marking periods are ten weeks long for online courses. Grades will be entered into the grading system and appear on progress reports and report cards issued by your school district. As in your school, a 65 and above is considered a passing grade. 2. Final Grade: The final grade is the average of the marking periods, including a midterm exam and final exam. No incomplete grades will be used for a final grade. L. Student Records / Personally Identifiable Information / Confidentiality: Student records are to be kept confidential on all LMS. Students will need to sign the student record authorization form to allow counselors, administrators, and parents to view their course progress and records. M. Student Attendance: Student attendance at online courses may be required at specific times, i.e.: online chats, group meetings, videoconferencing, etc. In addition, students are required to log on to their distance learning classes daily. If a student is inactive in a class for more than 5 days, the teacher and/or the e- learning mentor should contact the student. If the student does not log on for the next 5 days, the e-learning mentor should contact the student and administration and counselor about a system of actions to be taken regarding the offense. To Our Students and Parents: Congratulations on your participation in an online learning experience! Your commitment to online learning during high school will prepare you for future success in online learning with your peers, teachers and professionals. The online learning program is designed to give opportunities to take many courses that may not be available in your school.
