Since it is represented in Brussels, the BDE contributes to developing European legislative procedures regarding competition, tax, and environmental policies as well as the circular economy for its members. Since it was founded on June 21, 1950, the RBV has represented the interests of its some 600 members contracting companies within the pipeline construction industry. 14 Tel.: VDRK Verband der Rohr- und Kanal-Technik Unternehmen The VDRK (Association for Pipe and Sewer Technology Companies), which was founded in 1989 in Stuttgart, is the professional association for the pipe and sewer technology industry. It speaks on behalf of and represents the interests of companies involved in that industry. The VDRK currently has 450 members, but its numbers are rising. Its main functions include advising its members, imparting technical and legal information regarding pipe and sewer technology, actively encouraging the exchange of experiences, and promoting education and training. It also actively contributes to a wide range of professional organizations, safeguards fairness in dealings with clients, suppliers, and competitors, and maintains contact with authorities, associations and customer organizations. With 245,000 employees, in 2012 they achieved a turnover of around EUR 110 billion and invested approximately EUR 8.5 billion. The member companies have a market share in the end customer segment of 46 percent in electrical power supply, 59 percent in natural gas supply, 80 percent in drinking water supply, 65 percent in heat supply and 26 percent in sewage disposal. As the central association within the municipal industry, the VKU pools its interests and actively contributes to political decision making and the legislative process.
