The management and staff would like to welcome you to NAS Oceana, Dam Neck Annex s Cottages at Dam Neck. We hope your visit to Dam Neck Annex is pleasurable. For your convenience, this Welcome Aboard binder will provide you with general information about Dam Neck Annex and the Cottages at Dam Neck. We, the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Recreational Lodging Staff are here to ensure that your accommodations are well maintained, clean, and secure. The lodging manager, The Dunes at Dam Neck staff, maintenance workers, and housekeepers are well informed and can give you assistance in just about everything dealing with Dam Neck Annex and its surrounding areas. 4 check-in / check-out To check into the Cottages at Dam Neck, you will need to go to the Front Desk at The Dunes at Dam Neck onboard Dam Neck Annex, Building 180, 1828 Regulus Ave., Virginia Beach, VA Check-in time is 4 p.m. / Check-out time is 11 a.m. CHECK-IN: The front desk clerk will request your ID card. After you have been checked into the Property Management System you will be given a computer generated registration form. Please review the information to ensure its correctness and sign in the space provided. You will be given a copy of the registration and a key to your room. CHECK-OUT: Check-out time is 11 a.m. Please have all your belongings packed and completely vacate your assigned cottage before going to The Dunes at Dam Neck to turn in the key. Guests remaining after 1100 will be charged a late stay fee equal to the daily rate of your cottage unless the front desk clerk has approved an extension in advance. PAYMENT: Payment for your cottage is due upon check in. Payment may be made via cash, money order, MasterCard or Visa. Guest Responsibilities upon Checkout Wash and put away all dishes. If a dish is stained or has burnt-on food, please place it on the kitchen counter for housekeeping to examine. Refrigerator and freezer is to be left empty. Remove all trash from inside and place in large trash bin located in front of your cottage. THE HOUSEKEEPING STAFF WILL GLADLY PERFORM ANY OR ALL OF THE ABOVE LISTED TASKS FOR YOU FOR A SERVICE FEE OF $35. 3

5 rules & regulations The following regulations are provided for guidance during your stay: Check-out time is no later than 11 a.m. If extensions are necessary, please contact the front desk of The Dunes at Dam Neck prior to 10 a.m. Non-compliance will result in a Late Stay Charge, equivalent to one night's room rate. Outdoor grills, candles, incense, or any open flame is strictly prohibited inside or outside of the Cottages. Pets are not allowed in the Cottages with the exception of bona fide Disability Assistance dogs. Occupants are responsible and will be held accountable for all contents within their rooms. Damages or misappropriation of government property along with the misuse of linens and towels will result in additional charges as well as commands being notified for further action, if applicable Guests staying in Cottages #1 through #16 and #20 through #29 must ensure that the key to the back door has been returned to the key storage lock located on the inside front door prior to checkout. Mandatory charge for lost key is $50. The Cottages are thoroughly cleaned prior to and following your departure. If additional housekeeping services are needed they are provided on a fee basis. Weapons and ammunition of any type are not permitted in any cottage or facility onboard Dam Neck Annex. Gambling is not permitted. In the event of a fire or audible alarm, immediately vacate your Cottage via the front or back door. Emergency evacuation routes are posted in your room. Stay clear of the building. You are advised not to leave currency or valuables lying exposed in your room. The Cottages at Dam Neck will not be responsible for any stolen or missing personal items. Smoking is strictly prohibited inside or within 50 feet around the perimeter of the cottages. Due to the fire hazard caused by the dune environment and weather conditions, smoking near the dunes is also prohibited. SMOKING IS AUTHORIZED IN DESIGNATED AREAS OR ALONG THE BEACH ONLY. All smoking items are to be placed in the butt cans provided Please do not toss your butts on the ground. Failure to comply may result in a fee charged to your account for damage to government property or possible eviction from the facility. 4

6 Services and General Information HOUSEKEEPING: Housekeeping Service is not routinely provided. A large trashcan as well as a dumpster has been provided for you to dispose of your own trash. The dumpster is located in the wooden enclosure directly across from Cottage CB016. BICYCLES: Bicycles are not permitted inside the cottages. Bicycles can be stored either under or beside the front stairwell of your assigned cottage. For Cottages CB017 through CB019, bicycles may be stored on the side porch. CABLE: Color television with basic cable is available in all cottages. CAMPER, BOAT, TRAILER STORAGE: Parking lots are not designed or designated as storage areas for campers, trailers, boats, or items for sale. CAR WASH: Cars may only be washed in the designated car wash onboard Dam Neck Annex, located off of Regulus Avenue just past the RV park. DECALS: Decals, bumper stickers, etc., may not be attached to any cottage doors, mirrors, walls, or furnishings. INTERNET SERVICE (WiFi): Internet Service is available in each cottage at no additional cost. IRONING BOARDS: Irons and ironing boards are provided in all cottages. ITEMS LEFT IN ROOMS: The Cottages at Dam Neck is not responsible for any personal items left in rooms. If you discover an article missing after you depart, please call the Recreational Lodging Manager at Local Interest: Brochures for local attractions and restaurants are located in The Dunes at Dam Neck on Regulus Drive. Phone number (757) MAINTENANCE REQUESTS: We strive to maintain high standards of maintenance in all of our Cottages. Should you find a problem with your Cottage, please contact the Front Desk at (9) and they will fill out a discrepancy form. Action will be taken to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. PARKING: Parking is available in front of each assigned cottage and is limited to (2) cars MAXIMUM. Additional vehicles must park in the parking area to the left of the Cottages at Dam Neck, by the beach walkover. Boats, trailers, and RV s are not authorized in the cottage area or in the parking lot of the NGI&S. TELEPHONE SERVICE: Telephones are provided in all cottages. Local phone service is provided through SPRINT. There is no charge for local calls. You must first dial 9 when placing a call. Please see page 11 for more detailed instructions. WASHER AND DRYERS: Washers and dryers are provided in each cottage. To avoid possible fire, the lint filter on the dryer is to be cleaned after each load. 5

7 Disaster Awareness for Dam Neck Annex The Tidewater Regions of Virginia experience several different forms of destructive weather throughout the year. Meteorological and oceanographical data indicates however, that storms of tropical origin, hurricanes and tropical storms are the most serious threat in terms of destructive potential. The hurricane season, during which these storms are generated, lasts from 1 June through 30 November. Storms of non-tropical origins such as frontal passage, local thunderstorms and tornadoes, although much more frequent, are limited in their destructive potential but they should not be discounted however. Advance planning, especially in the event of a hurricane or tropical storm will do much to minimize loss of life, destruction of property and disruption of operations. 1. Definitions a. Storms (1) Thunderstorms. Associated with cumulus-nimbus clouds, usually affects only a small area. It always produces thunder and lightning and may generate hailstorms and violent wind gust. (2) Tornado. A tight rotary windstorm although small in scale, it is one of the most violent storms known. (3) Waterspout. A tight rotary windstorm over or close to a body of water. (4) Gale. A non-tropical windstorm with expected wind speeds knots. (5) Storm. A non-tropical windstorm with wind speeds 50 knots or greater. b. Tropical Cyclonic Storms (1) Tropical Depression. A tropical cyclone with wind speeds greater than 33 knots. (2) Tropical Storm. A tropical cyclone with wind speeds from knots. (3) Hurricane. A tropical cyclone with wind speeds of 64 knots or greater. Category 1 Winds of 65 to 82 kts. Storm surge 4 to 5 feet above normal. Minimal damage. Category 2 Winds of 83 to 95 kts. Storm surge 6 to 8 feet above normal. Moderate damage. Category 3 Winds of 96 to 113 kts. Storm surge 9 to 12 feet above normal. Extensive damage. Category 4 Winds of 114 to 135 kts. Storm surge 13 to 18 feet above normal. Extreme damage. Category 5 Winds above 135 kts. Storm surge more than 18 feet above normal. Catastrophic damage. c. Storm Readiness Conditions (1) Small Craft Warnings. Harbor and inland waters are experiencing winds between 18 and 34 kts and wind driven waves of concern to small craft. (2) Tornado Watch. Conditions are favorable for tornadoes and associated thunderstorms to form within or close to the watch area. (3) Tornado Warning. A tornado has been sighted or verified by radar within or close to the warning area. 6

Severe thunderstorms (wind gusts of 50 knots or greater and/or hail of.75 inch in diameter or greater) are probable within or close to the watch area. (5) Severe Thunderstorm Warning. A severe thunderstorm has been sighted or verified by radar within or close to the warning area. (6) Thunderstorm/Tornado Condition II. Destructive winds and the weather phenomena indicated are expected in the general area within 6 hours. Associated lightning, torrential rain, hail, severe down bursts and sudden wind shifts are possible. Take precautions that will ensure an appropriate state of readiness on short notice. (7) Thunderstorm/Tornado Condition I. Destructive winds and the weather phenomena indicated are imminent or are occurring. Associated lightning, torrential rain, hail, severe downbursts and sudden wind shifts are possible. Take immediate safety precautions and shelter. (8) Gale/Storm Warning (as applicable). Destructive winds of the force indicated are anticipated within 12 hours. d. Major Cyclone Conditions (as applicable). (1) Tropical Cyclone Condition V. Destructive winds of the force indicates (or a specified) are possible within 96 hours. (2) Tropical Cyclone Condition IV. Destructive winds of the force indicates (or as specified) are possible within 72 hours. (3) Tropical Cyclone Condition III. Destructive winds of the force indicates (or specified) are possible within 48 hours. (4) Tropical Cyclone Condition II. Destructive winds of the force indicates (or specified) are anticipated within 24 hours. (5) Tropical Cyclone Condition I. Destructive winds of the force indicated (or specified) anticipated within 12 hours or less. (6) Thunderstorm/Tornado Condition II. Destructive winds and the weather phenomena indicated are expected in the general area within 6 hours. Associated lightning, torrential rain, hail, severe downbursts and sudden wind shifts are possible. Take precautions that will ensure an appropriate state of readiness on short notice. (7) Thunderstorm/Tornado Condition I. Destructive winds and the weather phenomena indicated are imminent or are occurring. Associated lightning, torrential rain, hail, severe downbursts and sudden wind shifts are possible. Take immediate safety precautions and shelter. 7

Sheltering During Storms Due to Dam Neck Annex being located on the oceanfront and in a flood prone area; Upon setting Hurricane Condition ONE and as directed by Commanding Officer, NAS Oceana, Dam Neck Annex and all guests staying in the Cottages at Dam Neck will be required to evacuate. For the safety of all hands, Dam Neck Annex will be evacuated when directed and all buildings will be secured when the possibility of a direct hit exists. All personnel and their families should seek shelter provided by the local community or evacuate the Hampton Roads area as necessary or ordered. Refunds Due to Inclement Weather While in any condition other than Condition ONE, the choice whether to remain at the cottages or to leave is yours to make. During Condition TWO, all non-essential personnel will be dismissed once they have completed their assigned tasks. This is not considered a mandatory evacuation and refunds for early departures are not authorized. The Commanding Officer of NAS Oceana has the authority to direct the mandatory evacuation of all persons when in Condition ONE. Should this occur, you will be notified and must leave the base immediately. If mandatory evacuation is ordered prior to the end of your scheduled stay, you will be entitled to a refund for any nights remaining on your reservation. Please be advised that it may take seven to 10 days to process your refund when refund is a result of inclement weather or other emergency situations. 8
