2 Exterior Design: Clean and Timeless Cabin Design: A New Level of Practicality An all-new compact hatchback from ŠKODA, the Rapid, is the seventh model in the brand s critically acclaimed range. It features the brand s new design language. Created under the guidance of Head of Design, Jozef Kabaň, the Rapid takes its styling cues from the VisionD and MissionL concept cars. The perfect proportions, cleanly modelled surfaces and sharply drawn lines combine to create a classic and attractive overall appearance. From the front, the new brand logo first seen on the recently launched ŠKODA Citigo confidently stands out on the rounded front edge of the bonnet. The grille is formed from 19 vertical black slats surrounded by a chrome frame, while the light cluster makes a striking cloverleaf shape and gives the Rapid visual width. The narrow horizontal fog lamps flank the lower air intake. Move around to the side and the Rapid reveals a coupé-like silhouette, again clean and timeless. It leads into a rear dominated by a large hatchback tailgate, complete with ŠKODA s familiar C-shaped lights and diagonal detail lines. Inside is 550 litres of storage space, a class-leading figure. Folding the rear seats down increases the volume to an impressive 1,490 litres. The Rapid is an emotional car. Its design is precise and timeless; its modern look fills its elegant, pure shapes with fresh attractiveness. This involves perfect proportions, clearly formed surfaces and sharp lines. Generous space for up to five occupants means best-in-class passenger head and knee room. ŠKODA s Simply Clever philosophy has moved up a level on the Rapid. All the usual ŠKODA innovations are present, including various storage solutions to safely stow multi-media players, cups and parking tickets, as well as netting on the inner sides of the front seats. New Simply Clever features include: > An ice scraper that slides ingeniously into the inside of the fuel tank filler flap. > A removable rubbish bin in the door pocket means a tidy interior at all times. > A double-sided covering for the boot floor one upholstery, the other wipe-clean rubber gives Rapid drivers a choice when carrying different types of loads. 5

3 A Trio of Familiar Trims with Desirable Optional Extras Six Highly Efficient Engines When it arrives at UK retailers later in 2012, the ŠKODA Rapid will be available in the brand s three familiar trim variants: S, SE and Elegance. Depending on which is chosen, standard features will include a new multi-function steering wheel with soft-touch keys, cruise control, Bluetooth, MDI (Multi-Device Interface), air conditioning, trip computer and remote central locking. A range of comfort and convenience options will also be available. One of the most popular will be the Boot Storage package, which consists of bag hooks, side storage above the wheel arches and three nets with fastening clips. Other extras will include 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels, exterior sports mouldings, additional chrome detailing plus a variety of infotainment system upgrades. Four petrol and two diesel engines are available under the bonnet of the ŠKODA Rapid, mated to five and six-speed manual transmissions and a seven-speed automatic DSG. Selected versions of the Rapid will be available with ŠKODA s pioneering GreenTech suite of environmental technologies from early GreenTech models benefit from engine Stop/start, kinetic energy recuperation and tyres optimised for low rolling resistance. The result is a potential fuel saving of between five and eight per cent. This makes the ŠKODA Rapid one of the most economical and fuelefficient compact cars on the market, with CO 2 emissions as low as 104 g/km. 4 Exceptional Safety for a Modern World Under the Skin With a comprehensive active and passive safety package, the ŠKODA Rapid is one of the safest cars on the road today. Its long wheelbase, combined with an exceptionally stiff chassis and rigid body structure, form the basis for reassuringly stable handling. But should the worst happen, ABS anti-lock braking and ESP stability control are standard across the range. Functions such as Tyre Pressure Monitor, fog lamps with cornering beam and Hill-hold control for starting on a slope enhance the active safety offering. On the passive side, ŠKODA s engineers have incorporated technologies that will protect the car s occupants in case of a collision. They include front, side and head airbags, plus height-adjustable three-point safety belts. The Rapid meets the European Union s demanding Phase Two pedestrian protection requirements. The ŠKODA Rapid s chassis has been precisely engineered to tackle the UK s demanding roads. The front suspension consists of wishbones and McPherson struts, plus a robust 20mm diameter cross-stabiliser to provide load balancing and limit body inclination. The rear suspension is a compound-link crank axle. The Rapid is the first model line designed by ŠKODA using maximum synergies for global use.
