IV, FARIDABAD (HARYANA) Locust Situation Bulletin Vol. 56 No.07 Period April, 2004 SUMMARY AND FORECAST: India remained free from any locust activity. Ecological conditions are not favourable for locust breeding in the Scheduled Desert Area of India. Locust situation is likely to remain calm. However, continuous vigilance is being maintained to detect any locust build up. WEATHER SUMMARY: RAJASTHAN: Rainfall occurred at isolated places in Kota division and weather remained dry in Rajasthan from 5 th April to 9 th April and dry on rest period of the 1 st fortnight of April, NORTH GUJARAT, SAURASHTRA AND KUTCH: Weather remained dry in North Gujarat Region, Saurashtra and Kutch during the 1 st fortnight of April, METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS: S. F): i) Swarm movement : Nil ii) Breeding : Nil iii) Scattered Adults : Nil INTERNATIONAL LOCUST SITUATION EASTERN REGION PAKISTAN : Latest report awaited. IRAN : Report awaited AFGHANISTAN : Report awaited CENTRAL REGION (FAO/ECLO Desert Locust Bulletin No. 306 Report for March, 2004) Sudan: Control operations over an area of 959 ha during 4-21 March, 2004 in Egyptain border, Nile River near Dongola, Southeast of Dongola and Nile near Abu Hamed were undertaken against groups of fifth instar hoppers and fledglings mixed with laying swarms, mixture of immature, mature solitarious and transiens adults. Egypt: Control operations continued by treating an area of 2,704 ha during 1-15 March, 2004 in Abu Ramad, Lake Nasser near Abu Simbel, Tushka, Garf Husein, Allaqi, Adendad, Dakhla, Kharga, south of Bahariya and north of Darb Al-Arbain against immature and mature swarm, solitarious mature adults, group of late instar transiens hopperd and fledglings. Saudi Arabia: Control operations were carried out over an area of 2,375 ha in Red Sea coast between Jeddah, Yenbo Rabigh against adult groups, swarms, scattered immature - mature adults and first instar hopper bands during 1-30 March, 2004 Other Countries of Region: No significant locust developments reported. WESTERN REGION (FAO/ECLO Desert Locust Bulletin No. 306 Report for March, 2004) Morocco: Ground and aerial control operations were undertaken over an area of 446,936 ha in Atlantic coast near Tan-tan to northeast of the country near Bouarfa, Souss Valley and near Quarzazate, Atlas Mountains near Midelt, northern side of the Atlas northeast of Marrakech, coast north of the Atlas near Essaouira, Chichawa Draa Valley, Western Sahara between Mauritanian border and Guelta Zemmur, north along the coast to Laayoune, inland to Smara against swarms,
4 scattered adults, late instar hopper bands fledge and mature immature adults during 1-30 March, :3: Mauritania: Control operations were carried out over an area of 24,597 ha in Tiris-Zemmour near Bir Moghrein Ghalamane, M haoudatt, Zouerate, Adrar, Inchiri near Ouadane, Atar, DAKHLET Nouadhibou against swarms, groups of adults, hopper of all stages, immature/ mature adults during 1-29 March, 2004 Niger: Control operations were undertaken over an area of 2,930 ha in Tafidet area and Air Mountains near Arishima, against groups of adults and swarms immature/ mature adults hoppers were forming groups during 1-5 March, 2004 Mali: Isolated adults were reported in northern Adrar des Iforas, estern Tamesna and to a lesser extent, in the Tilemsi Valley and Timetrine during first fortnight of March, Algeria: Control operations were undertaken over an area of 2,930 ha in near Tindouf, northern Sahara near Bechar, southern side of the Atlas Mountains to El Bayadh, Laghouat, Ghardaia, Naama, Djelfa, and central Sahara near Adrar and south near Tamanrasset against groups, immature/ mature swarms, and immature adults during 25 th February, 2004 to 23 rd March, Other Countries of Region: No significant locust developments reported.
