June 8 th -June11th Course Descriptions Course name: Kitchen / Cookin Grades: K-3 Description: Every family has its own personal chemistry lab--and it's usually the most popular room in the house. The trouble is, many of us don't realize what we're doin every day. When we toast bread, bake brownies, or pop popcorn it's chemistry! We will address a food-related science question with simple explanations and hands-on experiments. We'll learn some fun thins about science and, you never know, your kids MAY just want to cook dinner for you! Course name: Whiz Kid Grades: 2-3 Description: Whiz Kids! Create, build, proram robots, problem-solve, learn code, desin, communicate, collaborate, and discover how to be an expert and leader in technoloy! This is a reat course to make new friends and network with other kids who have similar interests. Whiz Kids will experience a little bit of everythin in the fields of technoloy and enineerin includin Leo WeDo, Codin (Code.or),, Leo and KNEX free build, Leo NXT, Capsela, OWI, Leo EV3, RoboSapien, and My Leo Network to name a few. Various apps will also be explored (on personal devices). Name: Grades: Grades 4-8 Description: SCRATCH is a prorammin lanuae that allows you to create your own interactive stories, animations, ames, music, and art. The topics in this class will address three different levels of learners: Beinner, Intermediate, and Advanced. can be downloaded for FREE from the followin web pae: The kids all LOVE this class! Come learn how to proram; create art, stories, or animations; or just play ames! Course Name: Icky, Creepy and Just Plain Gross Science Projects Grades: K-2 Description: Call it the EWWW factor, but nothin is more fun than ettin your hands dirty while learnin about science. We will use technoloy to research answers to questions about science then conduct some pretty ross experiments to test our findins.
2 Course Name; Make-n-take: Session: mornin Grades: 2-6 Description: Take a trip to space and explore with the! This is a lunar module kit that is chared by the sun. Students will build the space station, robot, rover, vehicle, astronaut, shuttle, and do. Throuhout the week, students will also learn basic buildin and prorammin skills usin a variety of robotics kits (includin OWI, Leo Mindstorms, and VEX) and computer prorammin. Activities will vary by ae and ability. By the end of the week, they will have their very own to take home with them to continue learnin about robotics in their world. There is an additional $25 supply fee for this course. Course Name: Make-n-take: Robot Grades: 2-6 Session: afternoon Description: Take a trip around town in auto-bot, surf-bot, zombie-bot, turtle-bot, or any of the other 14 bots you will make this week. Each bot will be used in various challenes and races. In addition to buildin with the kit, we will also explore the prorammin aspects of robotics as we learn basic codin skills. At the end of the week, you will a multi-functional robot to take home with you plus the knowlede to continue codin! There is an additional $25 supply fee for this course. Do you love concept desin, character art, or just visualizin your ideas in 3D space? In this course, we're oin to take a look at how you can do all of that by learnin the basics of 3D modelin. You will create amazin desins usin Goole Sketch Up. You will draw simple 3D objects, move around your scene, and animate your ideas. Course Name: Grades: 4-8 Session: afternoon Description: is an intro course that allows students to explore the basics of creatin objects and animation usin Macromedia. is a form of animation reularly employed to create short, simple shows on the Internet. It has developed in recent years and is now a far more interactive and widely used form of website desin. The focus of this course will revolve around the use of tools and features that allow the creation of different types of animation. The end projects will be ready for publication on websites or within various software prorams. Course Description: Wet and Wild ~ Water Grades: 2-5 Description: Have you ever made waves in a pool and wondered how the waves of the ocean develop? Have you ever walked down to the beach and questioned why the water is sometimes close to the dunes or really far away? Well this camp is for you! In this fun and beachy camp we will learn about the ocean waves, why there are hih tides and low tides, and all about surface and under water currents. We will build our own waves and conduct an experiment on the tides of the ocean! To celebrate all of our hard work, we will also be enjoyin a yummy beachy treat and maybe et a little wet!
4 Course Description: American Girl Movie Stars Grades: 2-3 Description: Brin those American to camp and let s make a video! Students will put toether a storyboard and be taken throuh the writin process as they create a simple, intuitive, and powerful time-lapsed movie. Students will use an IOS app to make the movie. It is encouraed for participants to have an apple device with this app already loaded, but it is not necessary. Course Name: Grades: K-2 Session: Mornin Description: Callin all junior scientists! Come take a wild ride as we explore the excitin field of chemistry! Youn scientists will make sticky ice, use litmus paper, create bubble sculptures, wake-up funus, and much more! How about creatin your own paper-mache volcano and then explodin it? Roll up your sleeves for some fun! Course Name: Anatomy Grades: 3-5 Session: Afternoon Description: Callin all senior scientists! Come take a wild ride into the human body with some breathtakin experiments! Senior scientists will learn how to bend bones, make joints, map taste buds, build a stethoscope, measure lun capacity, and determine heart rate! Wow! How about performin an iodine starch test and simulatin synovial fluid? Come join the fun! Course Name: Sunny Art Grades: K-2 Description: This will be a fun and excitin art camp and a chance to learn all about the sunny summer sun! We will incorporate science, technoloy, and math by learnin all about the sun. We will incorporate the art component of (STEAM!) by creatin some really cool arts and crafts projects with the sun theme in mind! Some of the projects may include tissue paper art, cotton ball art, paintin, and much more! This camp will ive you a chance to be creative, express yourself usin different types of media, and think outside the box! You won t want to miss the Sunny Summer STEAM Art at Whitlow this summer! It s oin to be SUNsational! Course Name: and Leos Grades: 3-8 Session; both Description: Do like leos? Do you like buildin thins? Do you like robots that move? Then this is class is just for you! We will be buildin robots with leos and prorammin them to complete team challenes. The challenes will rane from drivin, olfin to respondin to sensors. All of this will be done with NXT Leo Mindstorms.

Rainbow Loom: Students will make several accessories by creatin patterns with shapes and colors. They will learn step-by-step directions and learn increasinly complex patterns. Cross Stitchin: Students will use math skills such as countin, estimation, eometry and even fractions to make a cross stitch desin. 3-D Cards: Students will enjoy makin homemade 3-D cards. Makin these cards will enhance their understandin of shapes. The students will make layers in the picture ivin you the impression of depth. The cards are beautiful when finished!
