2 26 & 27 September 2015, STEP BACK IN TIME WITH US! During the last weekend in September, the Linas-Montlhéry motor-racing track will host a quite exceptional event. A legendary temple of speed and record breaking, the venerable old track is preparing a lavish celebration to welcome the return of its former glories: cars and motorcycles of yesteryear, all of them absolutely authentic. And, if that were not enough, they will be joined by their most iconic descendants, such as Group B cars. RELIVE THE HISTORY OF MOTOR SPORT ON A LEGENDARY CIRCUIT One of the founders of the Rondes Hivernales, the organiser of the 24 Heures sur Glace ice-racing events between 1974 and 2004 and, more recently, the Week-Ends De l Excellence Automobile events in Reims from 2007 to 2010, and with motor racing records in Africa and elsewhere under my belt, I am extremely proud to take up the challenge of organising such a prestigious event on this legendary track, so close to Paris. It is not a competition, as there will be no time-keeping. The event promises to be action-packed: there will be a number of races categorised by different vintages and categories, and there s even an evening session until 10 pm on the Saturday. Are you interested in participating with your vehicle? Invitations are subject to the approval of a selection committee which will choose 200 cars and 100 motorcycles to represent the most historic and remarkable models. 3 On Saturday & Sunday, a succession of line-ups will take to the track, competing in races lasting 15 minutes each. Each car or motorcycle will compete three and four times over the weekend. No change is allowed on a same series. However, the pilots may take turns at the wheel at the end of each series only. There will be maximum 2 pilots on a car. I CLUB RALLY A great opportunity for enthusiasts to get together, clubs will be exhibiting their historic and prestigious vehicles, categorised by make and model. Clubs have their own special entrance and a private parking area. THE MOST ICONIC VEHICLES ON the TRACK Les Grandes Heures Automobiles is not a speed trial but a demonstration. There is absolutely no element of competition or speed. The event s sole objective is to provide pleasure without involving any unnecessary risk-taking. The aim is to drive safely and within one s capabilities, to preserve the exceptional heritage of these historic vehicles. I CAR & MOTORCYCLE DEMONSTRATIONS These are restricted to historic cars and motorcycles as well as sports models. Generations are mixed, but all are completely authentic. Vehicles are divided into groups according to their engine size and age. 4 JOIN US ON A LEGENDARY October - inauguration of the Linas-Montlhéry motor-racing track, constructed by the architect Raymond JAMIN, at the suggestion of the industrialist Alexandre LAMBLIN. Several records were broken, with average speeds in excess of 230km an hour A road circuit was added, taking the total track distance to 12.5 kilometres. First Grand Prix of the Automobile Club of France, in the presence of the French President. Won by Robert Benoist, in his 12 Cylinder engine Delage. The track has hosted 8 Grands Prix First Bol d Or car race at Montlhéry, which ended in victory for Charles Rigoulot on his Chenard & Walcker. There have been 9 Bol d Or races in total. In the last race, in 1955, Auguste Veuillet & Gonzague Olivier emerged victorious in their Porsche 550 Spyder. First Bol d Or motorcycle race at Linas- Montlhéry: victory for the Frenchman Tabard, riding a Norton. The event was held here 16 times. The last race, in 1970, ended in victory for the Dickie-Smart Team on a Triumph The Circuit played host to the Coupe du Salon. Held until 1971, the race brought together sport cars, then Formula 2 cars, and finally Formula 3 cars and was won by drivers such as Olivier Gendebien, Jo Schlesser and Jackie Stewart TRACK. The speed circuit at the Linas-Montlhéry motor-racing venue was inaugurated in October Its 54 angled bends staged the most prestigious races during the interwar period, including the Grand Prix of the Automobile Club of France or the French Motorcycle Grand Prix. The Grand Prix de l Age d Or was the last race to be organised on the circuit, following the non-renewal of the circuit s racing certification. In 1996, the race was still France s 3rd most important motorsports event, after the Le Mans 24 Hours and the French Formula 1 Grand Prix Paris 1,000 kilometre race held for the first time. This endurance race was held on the track until Winners included: Jean Behra, Graham Hill, Jacky Ickx, Jack Brabham, Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Henri Pescarolo. In 1925, a road circuit measuring over 12 km was added. This became the venue for races such as the Paris 1,000 kilometres, the Motorcycle Bol d Or and the road cycling World Championship! This opening ceremony provides an opportunity to meet the personalities who have contributed to the track s legendary status.
