2 Friday evening, the very talented Greek artist Petros Moris opened his first solo show COPIES AND COLU MNS at D U VE BERLIN. D U VE Berlin, founded in 2007, is a successful, international working gallery for conceptual and minimalist art. The gallery usually takes very minimalist and conceptual artists in his program, who transport stylistic influences of art history in the contemporary art through new intellectual work-ups. Alex and er D u ve not only organizes exhibitions but also concerts, readings and some off-site projects. Since 2013, the gallery is located in Gitschiner Straße 94 in Berlin Kreuzberg, where the current exhibition by Petros Moris is shown. 2/10

3 The artist Petros Moris was born in 1986 in Lamia, a city in Greece, and he lives and works between Athens and London. He studied at Athens School of Fine Arts and obtained an MFA in Curating from Goldsmiths, University of London. His other target is to get a PhD in Architecture, which he is currently pursuing. Moreover he is the founder of the art collective KERNEL and the Athens-based publishing and curatorial project RAD ICAL READ ING. Copies and Colu mns is an installation of wall-based and scu lptu ral works that bring together practices of industrial, digital and manual production, in ordert o reflect on the historical and material layers that compose the techno-cultural strata oft he contemporary human-built environment. 3/10

4 Copies, the first element of the show, consists of a series of digital prints on sheets of rubber flooring insulation. Based on ancient mosaic pavements of the Hellenistic and Roman traditions that originate from different cities of the Mediterranean region. For the mosaic compositions all the individual components were traced by hand, by the aid of a CAD software. This created the digitally designed tile wireframes. This laborious tracing process eventually strips away representational elements such as colors and tones from the original mosaics subjects, which span from decorative, animal and plant motifs, to mythological and folklore scenes. A revelation of the bare structure of the diverse tessellation techniques. Copies operates in the dialog to the installation Colu mns which consists of seven different typologies of steel cages. Systematically arranged in rows, the two meter-long metallic forms of various diameters compose a scenery resembling an idle construction site: a place in a state of wreckage or, alternatively, a place to-become. 4/10

5 The exhibition Copies and Columns represents archeological and preservation analogies and combines them with architectural and decorative aspects. It creates a system of a spatial and conceptual subversion. The last part of the exhibition consists of a text by the artist which is distributed on the wall installation.it is a theoretical and poetic text, which was cut into pieces and filled the empty areas of the wireframe mosaic compositions.
