The new E-Class reflects this to impressive effect with its pronounced aesthetics and palpable ergonomics. A newly interpreted exterior makes the car appear even more powerful and dynamic thanks in no small measure to the centrally positioned star and the 2-louvre radiator grille that are part of the optional AVANTGARDE design and equipment line. Even the side sections have highly sharpened proportions. Eye-turning interior highlights include a 3-tube instrument cluster, a centre console with analogue clock and the high-quality feel of the materials. There s plenty of scope for you to display your own ideas and good taste, of course, with a wide range of interior colours providing further individualisation options. The new E-Class is the answer. The integral safety concept from Mercedes-Benz combines active and passive systems, and can give the passengers optimum protection. The already high standards have been further improved upon in the new E-Class Saloon, one example being the optional Brake Assist system BAS PLUS, which features Intersection Assist and pedestrian detection. It identifies danger to the side of as well as in front of the car. The optional Active Lane Keeping Assist can detect potentially hazardous oncoming traffic in addition to lane markings. Adaptive Highbeam Assist, also available as an option, likewise helps to enhance safety without dazzling other road users. The standard-fit COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST system offers assistance on a different level, as it is designed to prevent rear-end collisions caused by getting too close to the vehicle in front. 11 Comfort Experience a new class of comfort: the new E-Class. The optional Parking package with Active Park Assist makes parallel and perpendicular parking practically automatic. Cameras that monitor the area around the car show potential obstacles as seen from above on the central display. If the optionally available digital reversing camera is fitted, the display shows moving pictures that use dynamic guidance lines to assist with manoeuvring. As well as offering the convenience of easy parking, the Saloon is very much geared towards comfort on short or long trips as can be seen from the impressive list of standard equipment. Comfort can be enhanced even further by selecting the optional active multicontour seats with massage and dynamic handling function. Sustainable actions should be a matter of course. Both the diesel engines and the petrol units in the latest generation incorporate a raft of sophisticated, holistic vehicle optimisation measures that reduce fuel consumption and emissions without compromising on contemporary qualities in terms of high torque and performance characteristics. Like its predecessor, the new E-Class features a wealth of new developments, systematic measures and detail improvements. All with the same aim: the advancement of sustainable automotive solutions. 12 BAS PLUS with Intersection Assist and pedestrian protection (in optional Driving Assistance package Plus) If a rear-end collision is imminent, the anticipatory Brake Assist system BAS PLUS assists the driver by applying the necessary braking force during emergency braking. The braking pressure applied by the system is such that a collision can be prevented or, at the very least, the collision speed can be reduced considerably. The system calculates the required reaction based on the data received from the long and short-range radar in the radiator grille, and the stereo camera behind the windscreen. The new E-Class is the first model to feature an extended BAS PLUS function that takes account of crossing objects and pedestrians particularly relevant in city traffic and at junctions. The system is able to detect crossing objects and stationary or slowly moving pedestrians in front of the car, and assist the driver during emergency braking at speeds of up to 72 km/h. BAS PLUS with Intersection Assist now assists the driver with braking when it identifies a hazard to the side of the car or crossing pedestrians as well as when detecting danger in front of the car

13 Standard equipment The new E-Class grabs the attention instantly with its expressive front end featuring a new radiator grille, a side view with a newly interpreted feature line and standard-fit LED headlamps. There are similarly subtle changes inside the car, including a nappa leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel, a new 3-tube instrument cluster, a centre console with centrally positioned analogue clock and a central display with a contemporary flat-screen look. Further eye-catching features include the high-quality materials, the aluminium trim, the ambient lighting and the new seat piping design. Another highlight is the array of sophisticated technology at work behind the scenes such as the Direct-Steer system, ATTENTION ASSIST, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, the PRE-SAFE system, the NECK-PRO front head restraints and a total of nine airbags. 14 Design and equipment lines ELEGANCE line. The optional ELEGANCE design and equipment line emphasises the distinctive nature of the E-Class Saloon. Exterior features include chrome highlights, the Mercedes star on the bonnet and multi-spoke light-alloy wheels. A fine chrome trim makes the side view equally enticing. And the interior has a harmonious feel courtesy of the exclusive fabric upholstery, refined trim in high-quality burr walnut wood and ambient lighting with a dimmer function offering a choice of three different lighting moods. AVANTGARDE line. The optional AVANTGARDE design and equipment line lends the E-Class Saloon a sporty, dynamic character. The exterior has a more distinctive and aggressive feel thanks to the new 2-louvre radiator grille with central star, the rectangular tailpipe trims integrated in the rear bumper and the 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels. This look is complemented by the sporty interior with a new 3-spoke multi function steering wheel and aluminium trim. 15 Exclusive package Exterior Sports package The finest materials and elegant visual touches the optional Exclusive package makes the high-quality interior even more palpably refined and visibly distinctive. For those who expect that little bit more. The optional Exterior Sports package gives the E-Class an emphatically sporty aura. It includes exterior elements from the AVANTGARDE design and equipment line, sports suspension, 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, perforated front brake discs and brake callipers with Mercedes-Benz lettering. 16 AMG Sports package The optional AMG Sports package comprises a number of carefully coordinated exterior and interior features that further emphasise the sporty aura and individuality of the E-Class Saloon. In addition to distinct visual highlights when viewed from any angle, the AMG Sports package offers palpably enhanced driving dynamics for the driver and passengers. The AMG bodystyling has been extensively modified since the predecessor model and now features a new front apron with a chromed insert and three larger cooling air intakes. Other distinctive aspects include new-look side sill panels, a rear apron with a wide chrome panel and the chromed tailpipe trims of the two-pipe exhaust system. 17 Optional extras (selection) The new E-Class Saloon catches the eye straight away with its modified design. Plus it has an options list containing a wealth of clever technology. In addition to the enhanced assistance functions for even safer driving in the Driving Assistance package Plus or LED High Performance headlamps, the new E-Class features a range of new convenienceenhancing systems to assist the driver, such as the Parking package or Traffic Sign Assist. HANDS-FREE ACCESS allows convenient kick-operated opening and closing of the boot lid if the driver has no hand free. Finally, the proven auxiliary heater optimises climate comfort in the winter months.
