2 SL-Programming system EXSL The EXternal programming system of SL creates NC-data, away from the machine at an external work place. These programs are transferred online to the control of the machine. Data conversion CNC-machines Tools with another control SL-Programming system EXSL-WIN-SU Workshop-oriented programming system with control-independent neutral editor, which contains the whole functionality of modern windows programs and control-independent input surface (SU). The uniform programming surface with the syntax according to ISO generates a neutral NC-format. The integrated postprocessor enables the data transfer to diiferent industrial controls. The NCprogram creation is done with a PC-keyboard. 3 SL-Programming system EXSL-WIN-SA SL-Programming system EXSL-WIN-SA/SU Workshop-oriented programming system with control-dependent editor and control-dependent input screen(sa). The creation of NC programs is done in a control-dependent editor in the syntax format of the original control. It is recommended to use the multifunction keyboard. The keyboard can be used by simple exchange of the operating foils also for the programming of machine tools with other CNC-contourning controls. Workshop-oriented programming system with control-dependent and / or control-independent editor (SA/SU). The creation of NC programs is done alternatively in a controldependent and or control-independent editor. If the controlindependent editor is selected, the creation of the NC data is done by the standard PC-keyboard. If the control- dependent editor is selected, it is recommended to use the multifunction Keyboard. The keyboard can be used by simple exchange of the operating foils also for the programming of machine tools with other CNC-contourning controls. 4 Multifunction keyboard with changing foil Editor The genuine "Feeling" as at the machine is created by the multifunction keyboard with clearly sensible pressure point and controldependent key layout. It is connected directly or together with the PC keyboard. In this case a keyboard switch renders good services. In addition to the editing possibilities customary in windows, a powerful conversational module can be activated, which graphically shows a lot of functions belonging to the control and creates further editing possibilities. The on-line help can be context-referred activated on each position. It can be printed out, extended by own notes and grows in such a way with the requirements. A matrix consisting of micro pushbuttons can be assigned arbitrarily with keycodes, non-necessary fields are not activated. Six different levels (LED display) or controls can be simultaneously stored on the multifunction keyboard. An installation program with all drivers for the first loading of the table of symbols is contained in the scope of supply. The control foils are made of extremely solid polycarbonate material. Only with a simple exchange of the foils, the keyboard can be used as well for the programming of machine tools with different CNC-path controls The suitable foil can be selected from a selection of to time more than 60 different operating foils. By the adjustment on new generations of control daily new operating foils are added. Simulation The descriptive 2D and 3D machine cutting simulation is free select able in views and cutouts for the traverse of the axes. Usually it is the X-, Y- and Z-axis for milling and the X- and Z-axes for turning. As an option NC-axes can be programmed and simulated. 5 EXSL is modular constructed and characterised by the following performance Operating systems, network capability The software runs with all Microsoft operating systems starting from version WINDOWS 98 up to the latest WINDOWS operating system. Database (*) It is network-compatible and conceived for ACCESS and SQL-databases. Data transfer The programs created are usually transferred online to the NC-controls. Postprocessors are available for NC-programs, which were created with a control-independent syntax. Tooling sheet (*) Project-oriented data can be printed and stored into a tooling sheet. Calculation of processing time Traverse paths and traverse speed are calculated from the NC-program and used for the determination of the manufacturing time Graphics 2D- and 3D-machine cutting simulation in free selectable views and cutouts (Power- ZOOM). Two simulation modes step-by-step and full sequence can be selected. The machine cutting can be simutaneously shown in up to four windows at the same time from most different viewing angle. That has special advantages for the multi-side machining with the milling and the simulation of driven tools with the turning. Apart from the representation of the workpiece the tools, the clamping tools, the machine tool can be also illustrated. A nearly real working environment is so created. Graphical cycle support (*) Many contours available in the drawing are edited in praxis with the help of the cycles contained in the CNC-control. The integrated CAM-module or the graphical 5

6 cycle support assure, that the created contours can be considered when creating the NC-program. Thus the NC program is clearly visible and more easily optimizable than at the NC-generation via usual applications of post processors Internet function The programs created in the software can be sent to others via the integrated internet function or programs can be received from others. Collision view The breaking of workpieces profile during the programming in rapid traverse or the collision with the clamping device, machine body etc. is shown optically during the simulation. Zero point, blank, clamping tool and machine parameter The user can change the zero point, the blank, the clamping device and the machine parameter arbitrary. This assures a realistic simulation. ON-LINE Help Context-referred help can be activated and printed at any time Project management If the NC-program is needed some time later, all parameters additional belonging to this program are available for the user, for example: Customer information (at job order production) Definition of revolver and tool hoder Zero point and blank information Associated CAD-drawings Main programs and associated subprograms All information relevant for simulation are saved into the project management. This assures that all information are immediately available for a simulation later. Additional project data Exrtenal information can be integrated via OLE-objects. That means that e.g. external drawings, working shedules and additional information are available project-related and up-to-date. 6

7 Clamping device An extensive, free-parameterizable clamping tool library is available Right management (*) Depending on the state of training of the management, any modules can be blanked, so it is impossible to get access to them. This is especially interesting for the use in the training Blanks Any blanks (machined parts and half-products) are free selectable Rechuck, dimensioning There are nine free defineable clamping postions for the workpiece. Workpiece dimensioning (*) The contour created with the help of the simulation can be measured and dimensioned. After checking the data can be given to quality assurance systems Machine tool An extensive library of free selectable machine tools (zero point, working area, maximum rapid traverse rate, speed) is available Tool memory For the CNC-machining Turning and Milling, a library of tools is available in a tool magazine, which can equip a tool changer by means of drag & drop. As in reality, a tool consists of its single elements, e.g. holder, shaft or indexable insert Creation of drawings (*) Integrated geometry module for the creation of any contours. Transfer of the contours created according to ISO/EN/DIB to the editor Import of drawings (*) CAD-drawings in file format dxf or Iges can be read in and selected. Profile lines can be broken and deleted as well as the zero point of the drawing can be determined. Drawings, which have been created with the layer procedure, can be easily edited via the integrated layer control. 7

8 Résumé EXSL is an efficient, user-friendly and praxis-oriented programming system, which has been developed by practicians for practicians. It supports all usual CNC-controls. The 3D simulation is an almost realistic image of the real machine cutting process. The constant development of EXSL has the objective 1. to increase the efficiency of the programming system. 2. to integrate new generations of controls of machines tools. 3. Beyond that the possibility exists to extend the programming system EXSL by a NC control module. With this module the PC-based machine tools for Metal and wood processing, which we sale, can be controlled directly. The SL-Programming system EXSL-WIN-SU, EXSL-WIN-SA or EXSL-WIN-SU/SA represents together with the PC-based machine tools an optimal NC-training system for the CNC-formation. By software exchange and/or exchange of the operating foil the PC-based machine tools are universal training machines for any controls.
