4 Disease overview: classification Acne is the disease of filo sebaceous follicles unit On the face(forehead, nose & chin) Chest area Back & shoulders The Secondary condition causes is are classified Mild, with open and closed Hereditary comedones, factors some pustules and papules Moderate, with comedones with more frequent papules Severe, with comedones, papules, Medications nodular abscesses
5 Disease overview: type of lesions Retentional lesions (i.e. Accumulation of sebum and obstruction of the pores) Inflammatory lesion Scarring Blackheads (open comedones) Whiteheads (closed comedones) Pustules (white spots) Papules (red spots) Nodules (Large cysts)
6 Disease overview: Cook system classification Need not to be perfect; 3 small comedones and /or papules are permitted, if they are scattered Very few pustules, up to 3 dozen papules and /or comedones; no big or prominent lesions; lesions are hardly visible from 2,5 m away Between grades 2 and 6. Red lesions and inflammation are present to a significant degree. Worthy of treatment Numerous comedones, but no inflammation or inflammatory lesions, numerous pustules, lesions, easily recognized at 2,5m, some pustules may be quite large (1-2 cm) Conglobated, sinus or cystic type acne or highly inflammatory acne covering most of the yellow pustules extend to neck and chin
