Lesson 8:02 Les Sports Vocabulaire: Be sure you practice writing the words and listening several times to how they sound. La Prononciation This lesson introduces you to the French sounds. Make sure you click all the play buttons and really practice saying what is spoken. This is a great lesson to return to throughout the course for tips on pronunciation.

4 Lesson 8:03 Les verbes en -ir The 2 nd largest group of regular verbs are. These re verbs follow a pattern. Some examples are: finir, maigrir, grossir, rougir. Please become familiar with the list of verbs on page 3 of the lesson. Remember, you cannot always leave a verb in its infinitive form. Sentences like I to blush and They to lose weight don t make sense! You have to conjugate the verb, or give a different form of the verb so that it makes sense (I blush and They lose weight). Remember how simple it was to conjugate er verbs? It s just as simple for ir verbs!! Just follow these steps: 1. Start by crossing off the ir at the end of the verb. ex: finir choisir 2. You are left with a stem (fin, chois) 3. Add the following endings to the remaining stem: Je - is Nous - issons Tu - is Vous - issez Il/elle/on - it Ils/elles - issent Ex: Je finis Tu finis Il/elle/on finit Nous finissons Vous finissez Ils/elles finissent Je choisis Tu choisis Il/elle/on choisit Nous choisissons Vous choisissez Ils/elles choisissent Helpful Hints: Note the verbs that use à (obéir à, réussir à). 5 Lesson 8:04 Les adjectifs This group of adjectives is different from other adjectives you have learned because they come Masculine the noun. These mean this/that/these/those. and agree with the NOUNS w/ vowel feminine plural ce cet cette Ces The French often add to the noun. When you contrast 2 things, you can use or to help distinguish between them. Example: The forms of quel mean. It also agrees with the it modifies. You use it when.
