4 Lesson 8:03 Les verbes en -ir The 2 nd largest group of regular verbs are. These re verbs follow a pattern. Some examples are: finir, maigrir, grossir, rougir. Please become familiar with the list of verbs on page 3 of the lesson. Remember, you cannot always leave a verb in its infinitive form. Sentences like I to blush and They to lose weight don t make sense! You have to conjugate the verb, or give a different form of the verb so that it makes sense (I blush and They lose weight). Remember how simple it was to conjugate er verbs? It s just as simple for ir verbs!! Just follow these steps: 1. Start by crossing off the ir at the end of the verb. ex: finir choisir 2. You are left with a stem (fin, chois) 3. Add the following endings to the remaining stem: Je - is Nous - issons Tu - is Vous - issez Il/elle/on - it Ils/elles - issent Ex: Je finis Tu finis Il/elle/on finit Nous finissons Vous finissez Ils/elles finissent Je choisis Tu choisis Il/elle/on choisit Nous choisissons Vous choisissez Ils/elles choisissent Helpful Hints: Note the verbs that use à (obéir à, réussir à).
