3 Clear water through nature STP and wetland system Empuriabrava Visitor centre 3

4 Wet meadow for birds Application of polished effluent Visitor centre Cortalet Natural park Aiguamolls d l Emporda Well treated waste water as source for the natural park 4

5 Use of naturally upgraded effluent in Aiguamolls Nature park Supply water in the 18-ha manmade Cortalet lagoon to avoid its summer desiccation and/or to restore wet meadows in the surrounding area avoid the eutrophication removal of nutrients needed! Reduce discharges in the Muga river Preservation of the local habitats and their specific flora and fauna STP wetland system 5

6 : Some of the results: Water quality Since 2007, almost all the flow is reused thanks to the new third biological reactor Performance in 2008: Total-N removal 85% approx. 6,300 kg N P-removal variable Better: remove in STP!! Total P removal greater annual variability 47% approx. 2,700 kg P Some of the results: nature!! 6
