1 Dear Students, We are pleased to invite you to the Summer School: Global Management in Automotive Industry 8 August - 19 August 2016 ŠKODA AUTO University Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic Working language of the programme is English.
2 The programme combines the subjects of economics and management with technical issues, aimed at the automotive industry. The programme includes theoretical issues along with practical approaches, such as case studies and projects, plus practical skills training. As the language of communication is English, the participants need to prove strong knowledge of this language in both general and business English. While working on the common projects, the participants will also need to apply their writing skills and abilities, presentation and ITC skills. The programme provides the participants with a great chance to learn more in the areas which differ from their home university programme. Students whose main specialization lies in economics and management will learn more about technical sciences, students whose main specialization lies in technical disciplines will benefit from management and marketing oriented subjects. Regarding the companies, the participants will learn from guest lecturers, field trips and company visits. On top of their entrepreneurial competencies the program will contribute as they will deal with specific tasks and issues, and the practical skills training. All the programme activities besides the informative subjects, should lead to networking and developing future international relationships.
3 The cooperation with automotive companies, inviting guest lecturers, field trips and company visits can help with identifying the needs in knowledge, practical skills, and experience. The participants skills and knowledge will be developed mainly by Seminar-style courses; Project work; Task-based learning; Discussions with experts as an integral part of seminars (guest speakers); Skills-based learning; Presentations; Company visits, excursions. The tutorials will be based on the participants preparation and their close cooperation in international groups/teams. The library and study hall with internet access will be available. The learning experience will be enhanced thanks to this close interaction of the different cultural environments of the fellow students. The programme aims at both undergraduate (bachelor) and graduate (master) degree students. The practically oriented learning and training will help them to succeed in the increasingly competitive labour market. The students receive for the successful graduation 3 ECTS. 4 ŠKODA AUTO University team Ing. Josef Bradáč, Ph.D. Department of Logistics, Quality and Automotive Technology Ing. Josef Bradáč, Ph.D graduated with a master s degree from the Technical Faculty at the University of Life Sciences in Prague. After that he completed his studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Technical University in Liberec, where he got the doctor title in His dissertation work was focused on the selection of the right technological welding procedure on the simulations computation basis by welding iron aluminide Fe 3 Al profile components. This work was prepared within the scope of a grant project - MŠM He also worked as an engineer within the Erasmus program at the Welding Research Institute in Bratislava in Josef Bradáč has worked as a designer of car body in ŠKODA AUTO, Inc., Mladá Boleslav. He started his career with the new project of ŠKODA Rapid and Rapid Spaceback. He collaborated on the project of the development centre of VW in Wolfsburg. Now he works as a teacher at ŠKODA AUTO University. He teaches Engineering technology, Automobile technology and New trends in automotive engineering. Currently, together with a team of other participants, he has been working on the project Green Solutions for Business and Industry. He also collaborates with ŠKODA AUTO in terms of projects of applied research. He is a member of the Czech Society for New Materials and Technologies, Czech Society for Quality and Czech Society for Mechanics. Ing. David Holman, Ph.D. david.holman@savs.cz, Department of Logistics, Quality and Automotive Technology Ing. David Holman, Ph.D. is from 2013 an assistant professor and assistant of the head of Department of Logistics, Quality Management and Automobile Technnology at ŠKODA AUTO University. He has 6 years ( ) of practical experience in strategic planning of logistics and supply chain management in the automotive industry (ŠKODA AUTO). He finished his Ph.D. studies at the University of Economics in Prague with a successful final thesis: Cost estimation methodology of productivity LEAN utilized in supply chain in market conditions of 2nd decade of 21 st century. His pedagogical, research and consultant/lecturer activities are focused on Lean Logistics and Supply chain management. He is the guarantor, solver or co-solver of industrial company projects (e.g. ŠKODA AUTO, a.s., SIEMENS, s.r.o.) and educational, scientific and research projects supported by the University of Economics in Prague, ŠKODA AUTO University (Global Management in Automotive Industry) or EU funds (Erasmus+, Green Solutions for Business and Industry). He completed an international academic mobility at the Seinajoki University of Applied Sciences (Finland), University of Zilina (Slovakia) and Regensburg University of Applied Science (Germany). Author and co-author of more than 20 publications (monographies scientific articles indexed in Web of Science, conference and seminar papers).
5 Ing. Petr Novotný, Ph.D. Department of Logistics, Quality and Automotive Technology Ing. Petr Novotný, Ph.D. is a lector of the Department of Logistics and Quality Management at ŠKODA AUTO University (since 2010). He has 14 years of experience on several multinational managerial roles in Supply chain. (Valeo - automotive, GE Energy logistics industrial projects, Hewlett Packard business planning management and Honeywell aerospace EMEAI Logistics). He is an active mentor of more than 15 Six Sigma Green Belt projects in the field of production and supply chain. He completed an international academic mobility at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya ETSEIT (Barcelona, Spain). He completed APICS CPIM certification of Supply chain management (Phoenix, US, 2012) and Honeywell Lean Expert Certified (2016). His pedagogical and research activities are focused on production, industrial logistics and supply chain management. Co-solver of industrial company projects (e.g. ŠKODA AUTO a.s.) and scientific and research projects (supported, for example, by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic or EU funds). Author and co-author of more than 30 publications (monographies, scientific articles indexed in Web of Science, conference and seminar papers). doc. Ing. Pavel Štrach, Ph.D. et Ph.D. strach@is.savs.cz Department of Marketing and Management doc. Ing. Pavel Štrach, Ph.D. et Ph.D. has been an appointed Professor of International Services and Innovation at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria since Previously, he served as the chair of the Department of Management and Marketing at ŠKODA AUTO University in the Czech Republic. Pavel has received a Doctorate at the University of Economics, Prague in the area of foreign direct investment and a Doctorate at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand in international business. Since 2007, he has been a permanent International Visiting Professor at IONA College, Hagan School of Business, New York. His research interests include areas such as international business strategy, international branding and foreign investment. His work has been published in more than 30 countries and in outlets such as European Journal of International Management, Behaviour and Information Technology, Journal of Knowledge Management, and Journal of Product and Brand Management. Ioana Giurgiu, M.A. ext.ioana.giurgiu@savs.cz Department of Languages and Intercultural Competences Ioana Giurgiu, M.A. wants to live in a world where people learn and share experiences. As a teacher and trainer, she has been involved in building bridges between her students and the English culture and language achieving great feedback from her clients.
6 As a Journalism& Communication major, she received her M.A in Translation Studies focusing on holy writings and script adaptation for television. Her passion however, has always been the human interaction in different environments and how it reflects on knowledge acquisition. On that account, she revamped the course syllabus in EAP at ŠKODA AUTO University, managing to include basic training in soft and transferable skills to reflect the current needs of the labour market. As a result, she has already had a talk at IATEFL Krakow 2015 dealing precisely with this issue and has been published in the American Council Journal. The IATEFL conference opened the road to new invitations to train at universities abroad. Ioana also gave a very well received workshop in 'The Art of Speaking' at the Green Solutions International Summer School held by ŠKODA AUTO University in Language assessment has been of interest as well allowing her to participate at the international conference 'Opportunities and Challenges in Language Learning' in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. Currently she is interested in motivation and motivating factors in the learning process focusing her attention on student engagement and immersion learning. When she is not teaching or preparing new courses, you can find her enjoying a coffee in good company or compulsively organizing her life and surroundings. Mgr. Dagmar Sieglová, MSEd., Ph.D. dagmar.sieglova@sieglovi.cz Department of Languages and Intercultural Competences Mgr. Dagmar Sieglová, MSEd., Ph.D. specializes in diversity management, and English teaching and translation. She works as an academician in the field of English language teaching and intercultural business. She also provides trainings, workshops, seminars and consultations in the field of intercultural communication in leadership and marketing. She received her master s degree in intercultural communication and English language instruction at Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA. She completed her doctorate degree in applied linguistics at the School of Philosophy, Charles University in Prague. In her dissertation theses, she focused on socio- and psycholinguistic analysis of language learning processes. During her doctorate studies, she received a visiting scholar status from the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Education, USA. She spent 2 years working and conducting research in language education in the greater area of Boston, USA. Currently, she teaches academic and business English at the ŠKODA AUTO University in Mladá Boleslav and at the School of Finance in Prague and Administration. During her professional carrier, she received experience as an executive director of the Multicultural Centre Prague, as a resident director of a study abroad program in Prague. She worked as a language teacher of English, German and Czech for foreigners. She also participated in research projects focused on multilingualism, language education and speech recognition research. Her main professional interests are international business practices related to language, communication and culture within management and marketing. She also focuses on tertiary language teaching and study methods, mainly critical thinking, with the accent on key communication competences, teaching methodologies and e-learning. At the ŠKODA AUTO University, she has participated in project activities related to the development of e-support in academic and professional English for students and teachers.
7 Mgr. Lenka Stejskalová, MBA, Vice-Rector for International Relations and program coordinator Head of Department of Languages and Intercultural Competences Mgr. Lenka Stejskalová, MBA graduated with a master s degree from Faculty of Science at Charles University in Prague. After which she completed her studies at the Faculty of Education at Charles University in Prague, where she completed her project on Activating Methods in English Language Teaching. In 2005 she received the Teaching English for Business certificate from IH London, and in 2011 obtained an MBA from the Institute of Industrial and Financial Management in Prague. Lenka Stejskalová has worked as an English teacher since She started her career with new projects of teaching English at pre-school and elementary school levels, developed herself and later obtained employment at a post-secondary school. She collaborated in the project of the newly accredited ŠKODA AUTO University and since 2000 has been in charge of its Department of Languages and Intercultural Competences. She teaches English, Business English, and EAP. Currently, together with a team of other authors, she has been working on a project concerning the implementation of Academic English into the syllabi in both the bachelor and master degree programmes. Other concurrent activities include launching new subjects related to intercultural issues, organising thematically oriented workshops and conferences, cooperation with companies. Lenka Stejskalova has been also actively involved into the International Office of ŠKODA AUTO University. From 2005 to 2013 she worked as the Erasmus programme coordinator, supervised the project Global Management in the Automotive Industry, EILC and others projects of international cooperation. In October 2014 she was appointed the Vice-Rector for International Relations. Ing. Iva Prokopová iva.prokopova@skoda-auto.cz Department of Recruitment and HR Marketing ŠKODA AUTO, Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic Ing. Iva Prokopová graduated with a master s degree from Faculty of Management at University of Economics, Prague. She started her career in the Trainee program at ŠKODA AUTO focusing on HR area in Since 2011 she has been responsible for cooperation between ŠKODA AUTO and universities worldwide. Her main activities include the development of relations with universities (e.g. Dalian Formula Student Support), cooperation on lectures and fairs (e.g. at University of St. Gallen or London School of Economics), participation at conferences and support of various student organizations (IAESTE, BEST). She acquired a lot of experiences with personnel work in a multicultural environment abroad. She worked in AUDI in Ingolstadt in 2012 and spent a year on a working stay in China Beijing (from August 2014 to July 2015). She was responsible for International and Local Interns, Hiring process and Care in China. Iva is an active teacher at ŠKODA AUTO University in the marketing area. She also performs additional lectures at various universities (especially at University of Economics, Prague). She is planning to get her Ph.D.
8 Costs for participants The participants pay a fee of 950 EUR. The fee includes tuition, lectures and seminars, accommodation, centrally organized excursions and field trips as well as organised cultural and entertainment programmes, documents needed for visa purposes (issuing and sending via DHL), welcome and farewell dinners, 24/7 service, access to the university library, free Wi-Fi on campus and access to PC rooms, registration into the university information system, transcript of records and certificate of completion. The fee does not include travel costs, costs for meals, insurance and visa. Early bird registration There is a possibility for Early bird registration. By registering until 30 April 2016 and completing the payment by 15 May 2016, the registration fee will be reduced. The fee for Early bird registration is 890 EUR; the fee is paid after the admission of participants application.
