1 National American University: MG1050 Principles of Marketing Music2Go Assignment Schedule An important part of the MG1050 Principles of Marketing course is the Music2Go Marketing Simulation provided by Smartsims through their website ( It is vital that you adequately prepare for the simulation, and then make your company decisions prior to each of the decision deadlines (rollovers). Both your participation and performance in Music2Go will be graded, and is also required to complete the other Music2Go assignments throughout the course. What is Music2Go? In Music2Go you will progressively take over the Marketing Department of an MP3 Player Manufacturer. You are given the opportunity to formulate and implement your own Strategic Marketing Plan, while keeping to a fixed budget. The success of your company will be determined by your Total Marketing Contribution (TMC) by the end of the simulation. Positive Marketing Contribution occurs when Sales Revenue is greater than Marketing Expenditure (i.e. it s the key indicator of how successful your marketing strategy is, and whether your company has returned a profit on its marketing investment). Single-Player & Multi-Player There are two stages of Music2Go, the Single-Player phase and the Multi- Player phase. Over the first two weeks of the course you will be using the Single- Player practice version, where you will compete individually against a computer controlled opponent. During the second week you will move onto the Multi-Player competitive version where you will be competing individually against other students in your section. 2 3. Once logged in, select the I Need To Register button and follow the instructions on-screen. All students must register as a requirement of the course. If you have purchased a new Cengage textbook, you can enter your Music2Go Prepaid Access Code during registration to zero out the cost. If you do not have a Prepaid Access Code, you will need to make payment during registration. After you have registered, you must read the Music2Go Player s Manual. This is required to complete the Music2Go assignments, and be successful in the simulation. We also have an Online Video available that will show you how to make a set of decisions. You can start the Music2Go Single-Player (practice) version by clicking the launch button under the Music2Go menu once logged into our website. You will be competing individually against a computer controlled opponent, and are able to control the pace of the simulation by rolling forward or back through the decision periods (years) as you wish. Your objective is to achieve a greater Total Market Contribution (TMC) than your opponent (EWS Audio). Week 2 You must continue to use the Single-Player version this week and attempt to achieve a higher TMC than your opponent. During week 2, Smartsims will notify you by when your Multi-Player company is available. Music2Go Week 2 Task: 1. LP1.2 Assignment: Single-Player Quiz (10 points) Week 3 The Multi-Player (competitive) version begins this week. In the Multi-Player you will be competing against other students in your section, with the objective of achieving the highest Total Marketing Contribution (TMC) that you can. You will be graded based on: 1. Whether you have entered decisions prior to the decision deadline (rollover) each week; and 2. Your final TMC result in the Multi-Player at the end of the simulation. Important: You must complete the Music2Go assignments during the weeks prescribed, as these relate to the Music2Go decisions that you will be making for that given week. Music2Go Week 3 Tasks: 1. LP2.2 Assignment: Marketing Strategy Multi-Player (50 points). 2

3 2. LP2.3 Assignment: Music2Go Multi-Player Decisions for Rollover #1 (5 points). The first Multi-Player Rollover (decision deadline) will occur on Sunday evening of week 3 at o Note: Multi-Player rollovers will occur at pre-scheduled times, being Sunday midnight. You will need to have your final set of Multi-Player decisions entered before this time (there is no submit or rollover button in the Multi-Player, simply enter your decisions). The decisions that are saved on-screen will be the decisions that are processed at the deadline. Week 4 At the start of the week, you can log into your Music2Go firm to view your results from Sunday night s rollover. You must then start formulating your next set of decisions. In Music2Go this week, you have been given an additional decision to make; deciding on the Sales Promotion decisions for your product. Music2Go Week 4 Tasks: 1. LP3.2 Assignment: Music2Go Multi-Player Decisions for Rollover #2 (5 points). Multi-Player Rollover (decision deadline) is Sunday evening of week 4 at Week 5 In Music2Go this week, you are required to launch a new Sports or Youth product. You also have the opportunity to modify your existing product to increase product specifications and/or decrease cost of production. Music2Go Week 5 Tasks: 1. LP4.2 Assignment: New Product Launch Multiplayer (50 points). 2. LP4.3 Assignment: Music2Go Multi-Player Decisions for Rollover #3 (5 points). Multi-Player Rollover (decision deadline) is Sunday evening of week 5 at Week 6 Music2Go Week 6 Task: 1. LP5.2 Assignment: New Product Launch Review (40 points). 3

LP6.2 Assignment: Marketing Strategy Review (40 points) 2. LP6.3 Assignment: Music2Go Multi-Player Decisions for Rollover #5 (5 points). Multi-Player Rollover (decision deadline) is Sunday evening of week 7 at Week 8 The final Multi-Player rollover occurs at the end of week 8. Once the rollover is processed, you will be graded based on your final Total Marketing Contribution (TMC) result in the Multi-Player. Music2Go Week 8 Tasks: 1.
