2 Melges 24 in Denmark In Denmark the Melges 24 class grows quickly: 2010: 2-3 boats (no class association and no boats sailing at international events) Today: Approx. 60 boats in Scandinavia, Danish class association and participation at international events In 2013 Holland and 2012 Italy Denmark is the 3rd/4th largest group of participants Sailors in the Melges 24 class come from a number of other classes The future for the Melges 24 class in Scandinavia looks promising. During the last 2-3 years the international development in the class has mainly taken place in Scandinavia. 3 About Middelfart Approx inhabitants in the city itself; Middelfart Municipality: close to inhabitants Located in the middle of Denmark on the island of Funen Middelfart is a part of the Triangle Region Denmark ( inhabitants): An association formed by the six municipalities in the area: Billund, Fredericia, Kolding, Middelfart, Vejen and Vejle on each sides of the Little Belt. Its activities are designed to strengthen cooperation between the municipalities to make the Triangle Region a great place to live and do business. Located around the Little Belt, the Triangle Region has perfect and known waters for boating and other water related sports. There is a large number of yacht clubs with several thousand members. NB!

6 Stadium? Golf course Since the waters are deep even very close to the stone pier it is a possibility to have e.g. the 20 best boats competing here on the day of the finals to make it a lot more exciting for the spectators to watch.

10 Accomodation The many thousand square meters of Hindsgavl Castle will be converted to the clubhouse for the sailors during the World Championship. The castle will be the official event hotel including opening ceremony, award ceremony, party etc. Hindsgavl Castle is famous for its unique combination of being a classical castle and a modern hotel, offering gourmet food from a nuanced Danish "Castle Kitchen". Wi-fi, sailor s lounge etc. will be established. Event package will be available.

11 How to get here? It's easy to get around in Denmark. Public transport is highly efficient and Middelfart's location makes it straightforward to find your way to the venue. There is easy access to Middelfart from Southern Europe without use of ferry or expenses for bridge. Boats can be shipped in a container to the Port of Aarhus, one hour drive to the port of Fredericia, 10 min. drive directly to Middelfart Arriving from Copenhagen or Hamburg Airport: Approx. 2 hours by train Arriving from Billund Airport: Approx. 40 min. by car.

14 Our Co-operation Model Cooperation is at the core of the Melges 24 World Championship Our co-operation model stands on three legs : 1) The commercial leg is Match Racing Danmark ApS. The company is owned by i.e. the sailing clubs in Middelfart, Horsens, Vejle, Fredericia, and Kolding. We are supported by industry, e.g. in terms of cooperation agreements about boats both in the day-to-day work and in connection with national and international yachting events such as this one. 2) The public leg is mainly a cooperation with the Municipality of Middelfart as well as a number of other public and semi-public companies and organizations. Public organisations Commercial 3) The voluntary leg is volunteers from the sailing clubs that have founded Match Racing Denmark. The purpose of the cooperation is to strengthen Danish sailing. For a symbolic amount, the clubs gain access to the boats and use them during periods when they are not needed for commercial events. In this way, the clubs get more opportunities with the increasing success of Match Racing Denmark. This is also the reason why the clubs contribute to the the Melges 24 World Championship Volunteers

16 Reference: ISAF Nations Cup 2013 Grand Final in Match Race Match Racing Denmark was the host at this event August 6-10, 2013 on behalf of the sailing clubs in Middelfart, Horsens, Vejle, Fredericia, and Kolding. Approx. 100 volunteers from these clubs. Approx. 200 sailors and officials from all over the World. Cooperation with a number of public and semi-public organizations: the Triangle Region, Middelfart Municipality, Developing Fyn, Sport Event Denmark. Cooperation with a large number of companies (see partner list next slide) Large media set-up: Live-streaming, television, and highlightclips with manuscripts (own YouTube channel), daily video news releases through e.g. Reuters and Sports Exchange, new pictures every day and local, national and international press. Web, facebook, Twitter Large media coverage of our 2nd royal visit this time by the Danish Crown Prince Frederik who is a passionate sailor himself. Exhibition race against the local team Sehested. 19 Statement, Norway As a participant in Nations Cup Grand Final our team had a superb regatta. Middelfart arranged close to a perfect venue, on the water as well as onshore. Very professional organisation on the water, fast and accurate change of course, good material, and very good lines made it the best regatta I ever participated in. The hospitality was marvelous, probably the best I ever experineced. I have for 20 years sailed championships on both sides of the Atlantic, Worlds and Europeans Championship in Match, Melges24, X99 and H-boats and would highly recomend Middelfart as the place to go anytime, probably the best I ever been part of for all those years.
