5 ATHLETIC TRAINING INFORMATION To: Visiting Athletic Trainers The Athletic Training staff would like to welcome your team to Urbana University. Our staff will do everything we can to ensure that your student-athletes receive quality medical care while visiting our campus. A Certified Athletic Trainer will be present for every athletic competition at Urbana University. Excel Sports Medicine team physician Eric W. Fester, MD provides Urbana University with a very skilled and knowledgeable sports medicine team that is present during every home football game. In addition, Emergency Medical Services will be present during football games located at the Northwest corner of the Urbana University Stadium. The local hospital emergency rooms at Mercy Hospital are less than five minutes away with quick access to CareFlight which is based at Urbana s Grimes Airfield. The Athletic Training Facility is in the Warren G. Grimes Center. It is located on the first floor and is the last door on the right in the northwest corner of the building. The athletic training facility will be open for visiting teams use. This includes taping tables, ice packs, hot packs, whirlpools, gameready, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound for pre-game treatments. However, if the visiting team does not travel a certified athletic trainer a prescription from a physician must accompany a student-athlete in order for the application of electrical modalities (e-stim., ultrasound, etc). 6 Inclement Weather: ATHLETIC TRAINING INFORMATION 1. Protocol for monitoring weather conditions shall be determined by the use of handheld lightning detectors, news weather, internet weather and mobile applications. If thunder is heard or lightning is seen during a practice or game the event will be terminated for a minimum of 30 minutes by the athletic trainer, game officials, gameday administrator or head coach. *Athletic teams will immediately seek shelter in the Grimes Center Gymnasium, vehicle, or closest campus building. *Spectators will also be asked to seek shelter in their vehicles or in the nearest university building. 2. If thunder is heard or lightning is seen within the 30 minute period the 30 minute countdown is initiated again. 3. The ATC, administrator, head coach and officials will monitor the weather by use of internet weather websites, local news weather, lightning detectors, and mobile weather apps. The ATC, administrators, head coach, and officials will also keep track of the 30 minute countdown. 4. The ATC, administrators, head coach, and officials will allow practice/ competition to resume 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard or lightning is seen. 9 TEAM TRAVEL AND CREDENTIAL INFORMATION Team travel needs should be taken care of by the visiting team. A listing of preferred hotels and dining sites are listed in this packet. In addition, a pass list is NOT provided for the visiting team. Credentials for media are required to enter the press box and sideline areas. Please use the enclosed credential request form in this packet for credential requests. Send credential requests to Derrick Blyberg, Sports Information Director by at derrick.blyberg@urbana.edu. Credential requests must be received 24 hours prior to game time. They can be picked up at the front gate of Urbana University Stadium and the Grimes Center. 9

11 GAME DAY INFORMATION Tickets: Tickets are sold at the entrance of the stadium. The ticket booth opens 60 minutes (1 hour) before kickoff. Facility: Urbana University Stadium, 579 College Way Urbana, Ohio Parking: Locker Room: Halftime: Athletic Training: Team drop off is located in the Grimes Center parking lot. Team bus parking is available in the lot behind Blackmer and Losch Hall off of Edwards Avenue. The visiting team will use the southeast corner hallway of the Grimes Center and locker room next to the pool. The stage inside the Grimes Center will also be equipped and ready for the visiting team. Halftime will be 20 minutes in length. The athletic training room is located on the first floor of the Warren G. Grimes Center. It is the last door on the right in the northwest corner of the building. Two exam tables by the locker room, two 10 gallon coolers, an ice chest with ice bags, and cups will be provided indoors while a portable exam table, four 10 gallon water coolers, an ice chest with ice bags, and cups will be provided on the field. All emergency equipment will be located at the venue for immediate use. Other items are available upon request. Sports Information: The press box is equipped with wireless internet and internet phone lines for broadcasting. Live stats and video will also be available on urbana.sports.edu. Visiting media must request credentials no later than 24 hours before kickoff. Practice: Visiting Bench: Pre-game: Please schedule practices at least 72 hours in advance by contacting head football coach Tyler Haines. Located on the east side of the field opposite the press box. Visitors warm up on the south end of the field (scoreboard end). The warm-up clock starts 80 minutes prior to kickoff. 11
