2 Supplement - for vehicles with LPG drive (natural gas) 1 Supplement - for vehicles with LPG drive (natural gas) This supplement replaces the Owner's manual OCTAVIA Edition referred to in the following as the Owner's manual. The information given in this supplement takes preference over the information in the Owner's manual. Special equipment is marked with the symbol *. We wish you a good journey Škoda Auto a.s. LPG as fuel LPG is an alternative fuel for motor vehicles. It consists of a propane-butane mixture and a small quantity of higher hydrocarbons. The strict legal requirements for the exhaust emissions of motor vehicles are decisive for the current importance of the LPGs. In comparison to all fossil fuels, the LPG is one of the fuels with the lowest impact on the environment. Safe LPG An electromagnetic valve is located on the LPG fuel tank, which closes automatically after switching off the engine and if the ignition is off in petrol mode. An electromagnetic main cutoff valve interrupts the LPG supply in the engine compartment when the engine is at standstill or in petrol mode. A pressure relief valve in the LPG reservoir with cables to the outside prevents that the gas enters the vehicle interior. All the attachment points and materials are designed for maximum safety. Important information WARNING When operating an LPG powered vehicle, the national legal requirements must be observed. If you can smell gas or suspect that there is a fault with the LPG gas system: immediately switch over from LPG to petrol mode, stop the vehicle, park your vehicle as far away as possible from passing vehicles, switch off the ignition, place the warning triangle on the side of the road at the prescribed distance from your vehicle - proceed according to the relevant legal requirements, immediately extinguish any cigarettes and remove any items which trigger sparks or incendiary items from the vehicle or put them out straight away, open the doors so that the vehicle can be aerated as quickly as possible, close the mechanical shut-off valve page 2, Closing the mechanical shut-off valve, continue driving in the petrol mode and have the vehicle inspected without delay by a specialist garage. When parking the vehicle in an enclosed space (e.g. garage), make sure it is well ventilated. This will dilute any escaping LPG. It is prohibited to drive into enclosed storage places, garages and similar areas where it is specifically not allowed to enter with LPG powered vehicles. LPG is heavier than air and thus will flow along the floor, it is invisible and forms an explosive mixture at a certain ratio with air. When refuelling with LPG, and when cleaning and maintaining the vehicle, smoking and working with a naked flame are prohibited. For vehicles with auxiliary heating: Switch off the auxiliary heating. The contents of the LPG gas tanks must only be drained into appropriate containers or in the open where there is no risk of ignition from the escaping gas. The draining procedure of the gas must only be carried out by an author-

3 2 Quality and consumption of LPG WARNING (continued) ised service station, which employs properly qualified staff, while observing the corresponding safety instructions. The pressure tanks must not be exposed to a heat source. In the event of an accident or fire in the vehicle, always switch off the ignition! Note Please refer to the information and warning messages in the information display. Have the LPG system inspected regularly by a specialist garage in accordance with the service schedule page 6, Service work. In countries where no Škoda service network is available, we recommend to solely use petrol as fuel. Quality and consumption of LPG The quality demands on LPG are stipulated in the EN 589 standard uniformly across Europe and therefore ensure a cross-border use without any problem. There is a distinction between winter LPG and summer LPG. Winter LPG has a higher percentage of propane. This can cause your vehicle to have a higher consumption with winter LPG than with summer LPG. The consumption is around % higher than when using petrol for the same style of driving. Closing the mechanical shut-off valve Fig. 1 LPG fuel tank/closing the mechanical shut-off valve If you can smell gas or suspect that there is a fault with the LPG gas system, close the mechanical shut-off valve as follows: Slacken the screws on the cover A of the multi-function valve fig. 1 and remove the cover. Close the mechanical shut-off valve fig. 1 - on the right by rotating it as far as the stop in the direction of the arrow. Re-insert the cover A. Insert the screws and tighten them up to the stop. 4 Adapter for LPG filler tube 3 Adapter for LPG filler tube Adapters are needed for refuelling with LPG because the filling nozzles of the filling devices are not uniform. Refuelling with LPG The LPG filler tube for refuelling with LPG is located behind the fuel filler flap next to the petrol filler tube. Fig. 3 Refuelling with LPG Fig. 2 Adapter for LPG filler tube Your vehicle can be fitted with two adapters for the LPG filler tube where necessary. See the following list fig. 2: Adapter ACME A1, adapter Dish-Coupling A2. Adapter Euronozzle A3, Adapter Bayonet A4, The filling systems may vary from country to country. Because filling stations abroad do not always have the necessary adapter for your LPG system, we recommend that you purchase an appropriate adapter before travelling abroad. Check whether the adapters fit your LPG system. Switch off the engine before you refuel with LPG. Let the staff of the filling station help you in the event of filling up your tank for the first time or when refuelling at unknown LPG filling stations. Always read and observe the instructions of the refuelling system. Opening the LPG fuel tank Press in the middle of the left area of the fuel filler flap. Unscrew the cap of the LPG filler tube A1 fig. 3. Refuelling with LPG Screw the appropriate adapter A2 onto the LPG filler tube A1. Observe the instructions of the refuelling system when refuelling. Closing the LPG fuel tank Unscrew the adapter A2. Screw the cap A1 onto the LPG filler tube. Close the fuel filler flap until it locks. The LPG pressure tank in the spare wheel well holds about 55 litres. The usable content is maximum 44 litres of LPG depending on the outside temperature.

5 4 LPG fuel gauge During the refuelling procedure, noises generated through refuelling with LPG are not critical. LPG fuel gauge WARNING When refuelling with LPG, smoking and working with a naked flame are prohibited - risk of explosion! For vehicles with auxiliary heating: Switch off the auxiliary heating. Incorrect refuelling or improper handling of LPG can cause a fire, an explosion and can lead to injuries. LPG is highly explosive and highly flammable. It can cause severe burns and other injuries. Switch off the engine and switch off the ignition before you refuel with LPG. Always switch off the mobile phone and the radio completely when you refuel. Sparks could arise through electromagnetic waves which can trigger a fire. Do not enter the vehicle when refuelling with LPG. If in exceptional cases you must enter the vehicle, close the door when you exit the vehicle and touch a metal surface before you take hold of the filling coupling. This prevents electrostatic discharges, which may result in flying sparks. These in turn could trigger a fire during the refuelling procedure with LPG. A small quantity of LPG can escape after removing the filling piston. In case of contact with the skin, there is a risk of frostbite. Note The LPG filling pressure may vary within some countries for different refuelling systems. If the filling pressure is too low, it can occur that the filling valve does not slam closed when filling up. When the filling valve does not close, a clearly audible clatter can be heard from the tank area. In this case, refuelling with LPG must be finished manually. This effect is not a fault of the LPG system of your vehicle. Fig. 4 Instrument cluster LPG gauge The fuel gauge A fig. 4 in the instrument cluster provides information about the LPG remaining in the LPG fuel tank. The warning light AB tells you that your vehicle is running in LPG mode. If the LPG filling level reaches the reserve capacity level, the message Please refuel with LPG appears in the display of the instrument cluster. The vehicle automatically switches over to petrol mode when the LPG fuel tank is empty. Note The LPG filling level in the LPG fuel tank can change through inertia forces while driving. A different quantity of LPG in the fuel tank may be indicated temporarily. If the vehicle is parked for a longer period of time immediately after refuelling, the situation may arise in which the pointer of the fuel tank gauge A fig. 4 does not indicate exactly the same level as was the case immediately after refuelling when the engine is restarted. This is not due to any system leakages but a drop in pressure in the LPG fuel tank due to technical reasons after a cooling phase directly after refuelling.

6 Multi-functional indicator (onboard computer) 5 Multi-functional indicator (onboard computer) The following data for the multi-functional indicator only relate to the current operating mode (LPG/petrol): Current consumption, average fuel consumption, range. Driving with LPG Fig. 5 LPG switch The vehicles with LPG drive can be used with LPG which complies with the standard EN 589 as well as unleaded petrol which complies with the standard EN 228. The LPG fuel tank is housed in the spare wheel well under the luggage compartment cover. Starting the engine The engine always starts in petrol mode, even if the vehicle was parked in LPG mode. Automatically switching over from petrol mode to LPG mode Switching over from petrol mode to LPG mode is performed automatically after a system check if the following conditions are met: sufficient LPG in the LPG fuel tank, the engine has reached its operating temperature (the warning light in the instrument cluster goes out), The engine speed is higher than rpm. If these conditions are met, the system automatically switches to LPG mode. The warning light in the instrument cluster then comes on. Automatically switching over from LPG mode to petrol mode When one of the conditions are met, the vehicle automatically switches over from LPG mode to petrol mode: when starting the engine, when the LPG fuel tank is empty, if the outside temperature is lower than -10 C, when there is a system fault in the LPG system. The warning light in the instrument cluster goes out. Manually switching over from petrol mode to LPG mode Manually switching between LPG to petrol can be performed when the engine is running by pressing the button GAS even while the vehicle is in motion fig. 5. When the following conditions are met, the vehicle switches over from petrol mode to LPG mode: The button GAS is pressed, sufficient LPG in the LPG fuel tank, coolant temperature of the vehicle higher than +30 C, Engine speed when running higher than rpm. The warning light in the instrument cluster then comes on. Manually switching over from LPG mode to petrol mode Switching over is performed by pressing the button GAS. The warning light in the instrument cluster goes out. Driving in petrol mode If you drive mostly short distances at regular intervals, then use the petrol mode in order to prevent any problems which may arise with the petrol system.

7 6 Coolant temperature Caution Because the engine always starts in petrol mode, there must be a sufficient quantity of petrol in the petrol fuel tank at all times. Note For frequent short-haul traffic, especially at low outside temperatures, the vehicle is driven more frequently in petrol mode than in LPG mode. This is why the petrol fuel tank may run empty faster than the LPG fuel tank. Note The conditions for replacing the LPG fuel tank are regulated by national statutory regulations - find out about the latest status of these regulations in your country by consulting a specialist garage or relevant importer. Coolant temperature The warning light lights up until the engine reaches its operating temperature. Avoid running at high engine speeds, at full throttle and at severe engine loads. Service work Every 30,000 km Cover and filler tube for LPG (liquefied petroleum gas): Inspect condition, clean if necessary, and check the O-rings. Gas hoses: Visual inspection for signs of damage. Fuel filter of the LPG system (liquefied petroleum gas system): replace. Every 60,000 km Oil and other impurities of the evaporator: check. Every 90,000 km Paper filter on the evaporator: replace. Every 10 years Replace LPG fuel tank.
