2 Title: Graduate Network Support Engineer Directorate: IT Band: 5 Salary: 24,000-26,000 Reports To: IT Support Manager Location: Swindon Contract: Permanent Job purpose Innovate UK has a number of key internal and wider customer groups. There is a need to deliver highly performing and reliable IT systems and services to these groups to ensure the operational effectiveness of the organisation. The Network Support Engineer role will provide technical support to our expanding organisation, whether based in the office or on the road. It will be responsible for identifying and resolving issues reported by customers or partners. The successful candidate will use their network engineering knowledge and broader IT experience to diagnose and resolve critical issues. Key responsibilities and accountabilities Liaise with third party providers in relation to IT infrastructure needs Ensure Infrastructure support processes are documented and maintained Troubleshooting vendor devices and network related problems Diagnosing hardware and software faults related to IT infrastructure Assist Support Manager and wider support team in ensuring wider support needs are met across desktop and application support areas Recording and logging faults, activities and tasks Investigating and resolving network/server issues Update and maintain inventory & asset registers General network administration Ensure support provided in line with agreed service levels Person specification Qualifications To apply you must be educated to undergraduate degree level in one of the following areas: Information Technology, Computer Networking, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other numerate degree. You must be due to graduate in the coming year or have graduated in the last 12 months. We require a minimum degree classification of 2.1 or, if you have yet to graduate, a minimum expected classification of 2.1.Innovate UK reserves the right to withdraw your place on the Graduate Recruitment Scheme should you fail to obtain the minimum classification of 2.1. 3 Experience Essential Understanding of structure of government Experience of report production to a high standard Experience of delivering work to tight deadlines Understanding of the wider Technology sector and with a broad and up-to-date understanding of important technology trends more generally Used to working as part of a team to achieve results Experience of high level data analysis Desirable Practical, hands-on experience within the Infrastructure architecture domain Completed a placement year or has relevant work experience in the field Experience of programming / scripting Understanding of key Innovate UK partner organisations such as the Research Councils Maintenance and management of data/records for audit and data integrity purposes Experience in process intensive service-orientated/research/competitive procurement environment in an innovation or research and development led organisation. Experience of working for or being involved with an innovative and forward thinking environment in either the public or private sector Skills Essential A proven team player Able to drive your own development Solution focused Technically inquisitive Developed negotiating skills Proven project work/management skills Self-organisation and a demonstrable ability to manage and prioritise a workload in order to meet tight deadlines Analytical and problem-solving, including the ability to quickly understand new and complex issues and to identify and apply solutions Strong communication skills (both written and oral), and the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate presentations and documents Able to build relationships and rapport with internal and external stakeholders Detailed spreadsheet and document management skills Demonstrably strong numerical skills with the ability to analyse data quickly Strong IT literacy including detailed spreadsheet and document management skills. 4 Desirable Experience installing or troubleshooting LAN/WAN/WLAN networks Knowledge and experience with TCP/IP based networking including routers and switches OS / Server knowledge Active Directory Knowledge of network architecture CCNA qualified (Cisco certified network associate) Developed negotiating skills Interests Curious about technology and its applications An interest in the global innovation landscape would be preferred Interest in or awareness of global development issues desirable Awareness of and interest in the national and international political and cultural landscape and its impacts on the wider work of Innovate UK Travel Requirements The role is primarily office based in Swindon, however the candidate may be required to travel to London and other locations for a small proportion of his/her time.
