4 Laser Metal Deposition System Technology, Software Solutions and Industrial Applications Fraunhofer ILT The Fraunhofer-Institute for Laser Technology ILT offers a holistic range of services all around Laser Metal Deposition. In several laboratories within the Fraunhofer ILT latest LMD developments are presented. System technology: New LMD optics, powder feeding nozzles and a coaxial wire feeding head as well as robot and gantry systems are shown. Software solutions: Together with its scientific experts the Fraunhofer ILT developed a CAM tool for LMD. This tool supports NC track generation based on CAD data and scan data as well as machine simulation. Industrial Applications: LMD examples related to automotive, energy, oil and gas as well as aerospace will be presented. The presentations will be shown in different laboratories at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology, Steinbach Str. 15, Aachen Seite 4

5 Design Center Additive Manufacturing Fraunhofer ILT Fraunhofer ILT The research group Rapid Manufacturing at Fraunhofer ILT offers research and development activities along the whole process chain for the additve manufacturing technology Selective Laser Melting (SLM). The SLM process chain extends from SLM-adapted design to process and machine development and post processing. The live sessions at ILT give an overview of current R&D topics: Design for SLM technology (e. g. Lightweight and functional design) Machine concepts and equipment (e.g. Low-cost SLM System) Increase of material range (e.g. Magnesium and copper alloys) Industrial applications The presentations will be shown in different laboratories at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology, Steinbach Str. 15, Aachen Seite 5

6 Wire Laser Metal Deposition, Surface Modification and Machine integration The Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT focuses on research and development of innovative production technologies and their optimization. The transfer into the industrial environment is a key skill. extensive experience in laser applications accelerates the progress of Wire Laser Cladding as well as Hybrid Manufacturing. Complete prototypical machine tools have been developed and successfully implemented. Self-developed CAx solutions are applied to extend and optimize individual processes and entire process chains. The institute thereby provides competence in process development and design, system technology and optical design. 7 Process Chains combining additive manufacturing and conventional machining The Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT works on horizonatl process chains aiming at integrating different manufacturing processes on hardware, software and systems level. New CAx programming procedures such as function blocks are used for the next generation of manufacturing. Clamping devices enable a fast, reproducible and accurate handling of parts along the process chains. And a systematic analysis and adaptation of the different manufacturing processes allows to reduce the overall effort instead of only optimizing single steps. The approaches have been realized in different fields such as turbo machinery, automotive or tool and die applications as well as medical products. The live presentations will include software and hardware developments as well as demonstrator parts. 8 Additive manufacturing in plastics processing IKV The Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV) in Industry and the Skilled Crafts at RWTH Aachen University is the leading institute in plastics processing. Among others additive manufacturing processes and applications are one of the most relevant activities of the IKV. 9 FabBus-mobile 3D printing experience FH Aachen The FabBus is an initiative to promote interest in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with modern teaching methods. By manual and intellectual investigation of these topics, people of all ages are encouraged to discover their scientific curiosity and technical talent. Student laboratories have established themselves as an effective tool to make young people experienced in scientific fields and inspire them early on research and development. The FabBus allows companies to understand the technology through active experience. Get a detailed process description directly at the machines. You will learn the difference between professional production Printers and Fabber (Desktop) Printers. The presentation will cover Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Polyjet and Stereolithography (SL) as additive manufacturing processes. 11 Additive Manufacturing of E-Mobility Components PEM The Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) Aachen University conducts technology-driven research in all fields of E-Mobility value chain. During a tour through our research and demo facilities the participants experience additive manufacturing plants and processes in work. Moreover different polymer-based additive manufacturing processes such as PolyJet (PJ), Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) or Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) for Additive Manufacturing and small batch production will be presented. The main subject will be the use of know-how about issues concerning Industry 4.0 and Additive Manufacturing in real production processes. Both, the integration of applications and production processes will be discussed.. The Live Presentation takes place at the Cluster Smart Logistics and E-Mobility lab on the Aachen University Campus.
