Introduction to Citrix Presentation Server Citrix Presentation Server is a remote access/application publishing product that allows people to connect to applications available from central servers. The published applications can be accessed remotely outside the corporate network. To end user it appears the application is installed on their local computer, even though it is hosted on a Citrix Server in a secured corporate environment. Citrix Presentation Server is built on top of the Windows Terminal Services platform. Terminal Services is the core technology that allows you to run multiple user sessions on a server, and transmitting the display and input over the network. Citrix presentation server uses the ICA protocol that allows you to remotely access individual applications that fit seamlessly into your client device. Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) protocol is a presentation layer protocol. It was designed by Citrix systems to be a powerful multichannel protocol that can exchange data. The protocol is fine-tuned to enhance the experience of users connecting from remote locations to the servers Citrix Presentation Server was formally known as Citrix MetaFrame Server until version 4.0 when the name was changed to Citrix Presentation Server. However, from February 11, 2008, Citrix changed the name of its Presentation Server product line to XenApp. The Citrix Presentation Server name will remain on all existing product, documentation, support, and marketing tools specific to the 4.5 and earlier releases of the product. Citrix Presentation Server is available in three editions to accommodate a wide spectrum of customer requirements for functionality and scale. Edition Citrix Presentation Server Enterprise Citrix Presentation Server Advanced Citrix Presentation Server Standard Description For large organizations and multinational corporations with greater scalability, application compatibility, server performance, rapid application deployment, and comprehensive management and monitoring capabilities. Provides midsize organizations with additional scalability, manageability, and application availability to meet growth requirements. Delivers the level of centralized management and control that departments, workgroups, and midsize organizations need to give workers secure access to applications anytime, anywhere, over any connection, from virtually any device. Installer and Pre-requisites Overview of Installer and Products The Meta Frame Presentation Server components you would get during installation are as below MetaFrame Access suite Licensing Access Suite Control MetaFrame Presentation Server Presentation Server Console Document Center Is Installed first and includes MetaFrame Access Suite License Server and License Management Console For managing the MetaFrame Access Suite Deployment To Manage applications and deliver to users For managing the MetaFrame Presentation Server Deployment Readmes, Installation documents and checklists etc SAP AG 3

Pre-requisites Server Operating systems: Windows 2000 Server (Server, Advanced Server, or Datacenter Server) or Windows Server 2003 (Standard, Enterprise, or Datacenter Edition) Disk space requirements: 400MB for MetaFrame Presentation Server, Enterprise Edition 50MB for the Management Console for MetaFrame Presentation Server 25MB for the Management Console for the MetaFrame Access Suite 35MB for the Document Center IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003, IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 ( required for web interfaces) Microsoft.NET Framework, Version 1.1 Java Runtime Environment (JRE), Version 1.4.2_06 Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Version 5.0 or Apache Terminal Services running in application mode. Supported Databases for the Data Store (Microsoft Access and SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE), Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and IBM DB2) Installation and configuration Guidelines Licensing the product MetaFrame Presentation Server cannot accept user connections until it points to a valid license server, so it is recommended you install the MetaFrame Access Suite licensing Components first. To license MetaFrame Presentation Server, see Figure 1. Figure SAP AG 4

This diagram shows the three tasks you perform to install your license server: 1. Installing licensing components. 2. Downloading your license file. 3. Copying your license file to your license server (if it wasn t copied to the license server in Step 2). These steps are described in detail in the sections that follow. Installing Licensing Components 1. Install Application Server IIS - IIS is required to run the Web Interface and license management console. Install it via Click Add/Remove Windows Components. 2. Install Terminal Server and Install Terminal Server Licensing - Terminal Services is not installed with Windows by default; you can install it with Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. 3. Install Terminal Services in Application Server mode - This mode permits more than two simultaneous connections by non-administrators, but requires the Terminal Services Licensing service to be installed on a domain controller. 4. Install Meta Frame Access Suite licensing - It is recommended that you install the License Management Console at the same time. The License Management Console must be installed on the same machine as the license server that it manages. You can install MetaFrame Access Suite licensing on either on a stand-alone machine or on a machine shared with another application. Install both License Management Console and License Server. 5. Create a Farm data store - The following steps define how to install MSDE as Farm data store using the default MetaFrame Options: i. Log on to the computer on which you installed MetaFrame Access Suite License Manager. ii. To install MSDE, from the Component CD folder of the MetaFrame Presentation Server installation, run: /Support/MSDE/SetupMsdeForMetaFrame.cmd. Running SetupMsdeForMetaFrame.cmd installs the MSDE database engine and creates a named instance called CITRIX_METAFRAME in which the database information is stored locally. 6. Install MetaFrame Presentation Server 4.0 and its components i. From the ServerCD folder for MetaFrame Presentation Server, run Autorun.exe. ii. Click Product installations and Updates, and then click Install MetaFrame Presentation Server 4.0 and its components. iii. Accept the license and install necessary prerequisites, click Next, and follow the instructions in the Prerequisite installation wizards. iv. From the list of components, clear the Web Interface box, and then click Next. v. On the Warning screen, indicate you have a license server, and then click Next. After performing the initial prerequisites installations, selecting components, and dismissing warnings, installation continues with the Access Suite Console. Access Suite Console After installing the Access Suite Console, install the Presentation Server Console and move to creating a farm. You create a server farm through the initial installation of MetaFrame Presentation Server. The installer spawns new installer windows for web interface and management console for Metaframe Presentation server 4. Follow the screens and check the installation summary towards the end SAP AG 5

Publishing BusinessObjects Applications Publishing an application means configuring BO application with Citrix environment to be accessed from a computer with the Citrix client installed: 1. Install Business Objects. Citrix is supported on Desktop Products only 2. Go to Start > Programs-Citrix-Management Consoles > Presentation Server Console and log on to the Server Farm using user name Administrator and the appropriate password. 3. In the Management Console, right-click Applications and then click Publish Application. 4. Type a display name (for example, Desktop Intelligence ) and a description, and then click Next SAP AG 6

5. Specify what to publish and select Application type as Application. 6. In the command line, browse to the Path of application (for example, "C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\win32_x86\busobj.exe"). The working directory is populated automatically. 7. On Program Neighborhood Settings dialog box, select Add to the clients Start Menu. 8. On Specify Application Appearance dialog box, set the Session Window Size to 640x480, select Colors True Color (24 bit), and click Next. 9. Accept the defaults on the remaining Specify Client Requirements, Specify Applications, limits, and Configure Access Control dialog boxes. 10. On the Specify Servers screen, select your server from the Available Servers list and click Add. The server that you selected appears in the Configured list 2009 SAP AG 7

11. On the Specify users screen, select your machine from the look in window, ensure that the Show Users box is selected, and then select the individual users. NOTE: for the next step, you need to have a user created and added to Remote Desktop Users group (you can also use the Administrator account). On successful publication you will see the Application under the Applications folder in the Management Console SAP AG 8

Installing Citrix Presentation Server Clients These installation steps are for the client from where the user will access the published application. Installing the Citrix Client 1. Download the Citrix client from 2. Start the installation by executing the file Autorun.exe. 3.
