PROGRAMMING AND DIAGNOSTIC TOOL Your QTRONIX Programming Pad can be used for both convenient menu driven Programming of your Quickie power wheelchair as well as for plainlanguage diagnosis of a problem, in the event a fault should occur. Note: The QTRONIX Programming Pad does not function with all Quickie Power Chairs. Please refer to your specific power chair s owners manual for the listing of the appropriate programming pad. B. DRIVE PROFILES Integral Controller The Integral Controller has one programmable drive profile. the applicable programmable parameters are listed in the chart in Section C. Remote Joystick or the USCM The remote joystick or the USCM provides access to five (5) independent programmable drive profiles. Each profile provides the user the ability to customize the performance of the chair for multiple driving situations.the independent and global parameters are listed in the table in Section C. Global parameters are those that affect each of the drive profiles equally. To program the parameters of a specific drive profile, the drive profile must first be selected. Drive Profile: 1 is the first item to appear when the QTRONIX Programming Pad is engaged. Simply use the and keys to increment or decrement the drive profile number. Press enter to select the desired drive profile. 3
4 1 1. P R O G R A M M I N G C. PROGRAMMING MENUS The feature configuration table (on page 6) describes each parameter s function. D. PROGRAMMING Programming using the menu driven QTRONIX Programming Pad is easy.the display will describe the function currently on the menu.to change the function, select it by pressing the Enter key. to scroll past it, either press the key or the key to move up or down the menu respectively. Selecting a performance function allows you to alter its setting. After selecting a function, press the key to increase its value; press the key to decrease its value. Increasing the parameter s value will increase the wheelchair s responsiveness for that parameter. Each parameter is adjustable independently, with the exception of the reverse function, which cannot be made faster than the forward speed.the original factory setting can always be restored by selecting Preset Unit, Yes and Enter. 5 1 1. P R O G R A M M I N G 1. Set-Up a) Turn the power on. b) Plug the QTRONIX Programming Pad into the charger/programmer socket located on the front of the joystick or USCM. (If the QTRONIX Programming Pad is plugged in with the power off, it will read no connection as a reminder to turn on the joystick or USCM.) 2. Changing the Performance Parameters a) Use the key or the key to find the menu item you wish to adjust, and then press Enter. The current value will be displayed. b) Use the key or the key to change the setting of the selected function. Press Enter to select the value displayed.the QTRONIX Programming Pad will show you the setting you picked and then tell you that the controller has been set. It will then automatically return you to the menu so that you may adjust another parameter if you wish. c) If you are changing a speed setting, the QTRONIX Programming Pad will first ask you to set the maximum speed.this will be the speed setting when the speed dial is turned fully clockwise.after you pick a maximum speed, you will be asked to select a minimum speed.this will be the speed setting when the speed dial is turned fully counter-clockwise.when both speeds have been selected, the QTRONIX Programming Pad will tell you that the controller has been set and return you to the menu for any additional programming you might desire. 3. New Program Trial a) At any time during the programming process, the wheelchair may be testdriven without unplugging the QTRONIX Programming Pad.The joystick remains active while the programmer is plugged in. No special procedures are needed to try out your new program. Make sure the QTRONIX Programming Pad cable does not catch on anything during the test drive. b) Based on your test drive, adjust individual parameters up or down to achieve the optimal wheelchair performance for your requirements. Note: When adjusting individual parameters, remember that speed (forward or turning) is independent of acceleration, and the acceleration (forward or turning) is independent of deceleration. c) When you are finished programming, unplug the QTRONIX Programming Pad. 5

7 III. DIAGNOSTICS A. FAULT ANALYSIS If a fault occurs, the controller will detect it and the wheelchair will fail safe by shutting down. At the same time the battery level indicator will flash from one to ten of its lights rapidly.the number of lights flashing corresponds to the fault listed in Section B.The wheelchair will no longer respond to joystick commands. When the QTRONIX Programming Pad is plugged in, it will display a specific fault code followed by its plain-language description. 1. Procedure a) To diagnose a fault condition, plug in the QTRONIX Programming Pad while the display is still flashing. b) The QTRONIX Programming Pad will display a four-character diagnostic code followed by a plain-language description of the fault. In most cases the description gives enough information to enable effective corrective actions. c) Compare the first two characters of the fault code with the chart labeled QTRONIX Programming Pad Diagnostics on page 9 to determine the fault type. Also, the battery level indicator can be used for fault analysis.the number of LEDs flashing indicates specific faults. Listed below in Section B are the faults associated with the flashing LEDs. B. FAULT TYPES AND THEIR POSSIBLE CAUSES The numbered items below also refer to the number of LEDs flashing on the battery level indicator. For example: 1. Low Battery Fault is represented by one LED flashing on the battery level indicator. 1. Low Battery Fault This occurs when the controller detects that the battery voltage has fallen below 13.5v. Check the condition of the batteries. 2. Left Motor Disconnected This occurs when the controller detects that the left motor has become disconnected. Check the left motor, motor connectors and wiring. 3. Left Motor Wiring Fault This occurs when the controller detects a fault in the wiring to the left motor, in particular a motor connection has short-circuited to a battery connection. Check the left motor connectors and wiring. 4. Right Motor Disconnected This occurs when the controller detects that the right motor has become disconnected. Check the right motor, motor connectors and wiring. 7
8 III. DIAGNOSTICS 5. Right Motor Wiring Fault This occurs when the controller detects a fault in the wiring to the right motor, in particular a motor connection has short-circuited to a battery connection. Check the right motor connectors and wiring. 6. Inhibit Active This occurs when the controller detects that the inhibit input is connected. The most common use for the inhibit input is disabling the drive when the charger is connected. Check the battery charger it must be disconnected from the wheelchair. 7. Possible Joystick Fault This occurs when the controller detects a fault in the joystick or connections to it. If the joystick is within the main box, then the controller must be assumed defective and repaired by an authorized person. 8. Possible Controller Fault This occurs when the controller detects a fault within itself.the controller must be assumed defective and repaired by an authorized person. 9. Solenoid Brake Fault This occurs when the controller detects a fault in the solenoid brake of the connections to it.this fault will also detect when the brake has been manually released and the chair is in the free-wheel mode. Should this fault occur, check both brake release levers to ensure they are engaged in drive mode. Check these connections and the solenoid brake. 10. High Battery Fault This occurs when the controller detects that the battery voltage has risen above 35v. Check the batteries and the connections to them. 8
