1 Computer Technology - Ethics, Rules, and Laws Your Name and Class Period: In this assignment, you will become acquainted with ethics, rules, and laws as related to computers and information resources. Listen and watch, then answer the questions below. GETTING READY... Go to the Computer Technology Calendar for today s date Open Ethics lesson found on the calendar Take notes from the Ethics presentation as it presents important information about ethics, rules, and laws. o Think about ethics that govern your own choices in life situations. o Think about rules that you follow when you use a computer. o Think about risks you (or other people) have taken by misusing a computer system and resources. Did you know your actions were wrong but you carried them out anyway? Or, are you completely surprised to learn that your actions were wrong? Resolve to become an ethical computer user who follows rules and respects laws in every situation. GETTING BUSY... Play the slide show. Click through the various slides and links to find the information needed to answer the following questions: A. What are ethics? B. What ethics is not? C. Where do ethics come from?
2 D. What might follow an unethical choice? And what other ideas do you have? E. What are rules? F. What happens if rules are violated? ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY Please locate the Salt Lake School District AUP for students. (A link on slide 8 will take you there.) G. Read all 19 Prohibited Uses of the District s computers and network. Write a key word(s) for each item in the cells below G. Privileges and Discipline are described in our District s AUP. What are four words that come to your mind that would summarize these rules of etiquette? Create a mnemonic to help you remember the four words you picked. Take the first letter from each word, then, assign each first letter to a new word that builds an easy-to-remember phrase.) Write your mnemonic here: (Example) 1. Clean 2. Courteous 3. Appropriate 4.
