2 Congratulatory Message It is with great pleasure to hear of the official announcement of the 2016 New Zealand Hapkido Festival and 1 st Oceania Cup. New Zealand has a long history of Hapkido led by many dedicated students of this art. During the World Hapkido Championships in Korea 2015, I was able to see the skill, progress, and the passion for the art by our members in New Zealand. By hosting this event, it will provide more opportunity for progress and a means to bring all Hapkido in New Zealand together in unity. I would like to congratulate Master Callum Forbes and our members in New Zealand for all the hard work necessary for this accomplishment. I wish all our members in New Zealand best wishes in their martial arts journey as well as health and prosperity. 3 I am happy to announce that the 1 st OCEANIA HAPKIDO CUP will be hosted by the Upper Hutt Hapkido Academy in association with the World Kido Federation/Hanminjok Hapkido Association as part of the 2016 NEW ZEALAND HAPKIDO FESTIVAL along with a series of HAPKIDO SEMINARS over the weekend 8 th - 9 th October 2016 in Upper Hutt. I would like to invite you to take part in this event. In the 40 years that Hapkido has been practiced in New Zealand, this is the first time that a Hapkido event on this scale has ever been held. My hope is that this event will become a regular event that will bring martial artists from our own New Zealand Hapkido Federation schools as well as other martial artists New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific together as the event grows and develops over time. This championship will be open for all New Zealand Hapkido Federation students and we will consider applications from other styles. Taking part in Competitions is one way to improve your martial arts skills. So please enter this event. Participants can compete in one or more of sparring, self-defence, patterns (forms) and weapons patterns (forms) competitions. I am also very pleased to announce that the Hapkido Festival and Oceania Cup will be attended by Grandmaster Scott Sung Yeel Seo (8 th Dan), Technical Director of World Kido Federation/ Hanminjok Hapkido Association. Grandmaster Seo will also teach a series of open seminars on Sunday 9th October. I hope for this to be a fun and exciting event for all of us to experience, to train together and most importantly, to bond with each other and build our friendships as martial artists. VENUE: UPPER HUTT COSMOPOLITAN CLUB, 11 LOGAN ST, UPPER HUTT. 1 st OCEANIA CUP EVENT SUMMARY THE EVENT IS PRIMARILY FOR MEMBERS OF THE NEW ZEALAND HAPKIDO FEDERATION. WE WILL CONSIDER ENTRIES FROM OTHER MARTIAL ARTS STYLES. THERE ARE CATEGORIES FOR ALL AGES. PARTICIPANTS MAY TAKE PART IN PATTERNS (FORMS), WEAPON PATTERNS, SELF-DEFENCE AND SPARRING COMPETITIONS. A PARTICIPANT MAY ENTER ONE OR MORE COMPETITIONS BUT IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THE OVERALL OCEANIA CUP TROPHY A COMPETITOR MUST ENTER SPARRING, SELF-DEFENCE AND ONE OF THE PATTERN COMPETITIONS. HE WILL BE RUNNING 3 SEMINARS: JUNIOR HAPKIDO SEMINAR (6 TO 12 YEARS) FROM 9.30 AM TO AM. THE COST FOR THIS SEMINAR IS $25. ADULT HAPKIDO SEMINAR (ALL GRADES) FROM 11 AM TO 2 PM. THE TOPIC IS HOSINSUL (SELF DEFENCE). THE COST FOR THIS SEMINAR IS $50. BLACK BELT SEMINAR (JUNIOR AND ADULT BLACK BELTS). THE TOPIC IS ADVANCED SELF DEFENCE (HOSINSUL) INCORPORATING PRESSURE POINTS (HYULS). THE COST FOR THIS SEMINAR IS $25.
