1 Here is a list of just some of the fundraising events you could organize to support the work of the National Trust for Scotland (SC007410) A Arts and crafts fairs Take a stand and sell your art and crafts in support of the Trust Auction Organize your own fundraising auction: this can include items for auction as well as specialist skills or promises! Afternoon tea Host an afternoon tea with home baking, teas and coffees to bring folk together in aid of a good cause Art exhibition Host an art exhibition and charge friends and family to view Aerobics-athon A great way to support a good cause and keep fit at the same time! B Bring and Buy Sale Sell donated goods on a stall. From second hand books to fresh garden vegetables, jams and home knits, this is a great way to raise funds in aid of a good cause Bag packing at a local supermarket - Ask your local supermarket if you and your friends can hold a bag packing day in support of the Trust. It is a good way of profiling the work of the Trust within the local community at the same time! Battle of the Bands - Bring unsigned musicians and bands together for a ticketed event where the audience decides the winner! Bike ride- Why not use the many fantastic cycle routes around Scotland to organize a sponsored cycle? A sponsored cycle event can be designed to suit children and families as well as the more experienced cyclist and is a great way to see the countryside Bingo night - Organise a bingo event and charge a fee per game to raise funds to support the work of the Trust. C Cake Sales - A delicious way to raise money and support the work of the Trust! Whether as part of your community groups, at school or at work, why not get a stall set up and offer a range of cakes for sale in support of the work of the Trust.

2 Change for the Trust - Collect all that spare change that is lurking down the back of the sofa and weighing down pockets small change can make a big difference. Collections - At your fundraising events or at other events and venues with the permission of the owner. Remember you may need a license for this so check with your local council license department or check our fundraising guide for more information! Cross country challenge - Sponsor a cross country event whether it s on foot, by bike, or on horseback, why not get together with friends and organize a sponsored cross country challenge, a great way to get fit and meet new friends! Competitions - Devise your own competition, or try some of the favourites such as guess the number of sweeties in the jar! Concert - Whether it is folk music, baroque or jazz, why not get folk together for a lunch or evening concert you can add drinks and nibbles and charge a ticket price or ask for donations towards the work of the Trust as you prefer. Car washes - Charge your teachers, friends and family to wash their cars for a donation D Disco - Get that budding DJ on board and organize your own ticketed disco at your local school or community hall and charge a ticket entry. Duck Race! A favourite: sell numbered plastic ducks and race them down a stream with a prize for the winning duck! Dance-athon - Another sponsored event set a time, set a minimum sponsorship level and get folk together for zumba, disco or a tea dance to raise funds, have fun and keep fit! Dress down day - Pay a fee to come to school or work in jeans instead of a uniform or work wear E Egg and spoon race - Are you up for an egg and spoon challenge? Race your friends and family and charge entry with a prize for the winner! Exercise Bike Race Raise funds indoors during winter by charging an entry fee and offering a prize for the winner. F Fancy dress - Host a fancy dress party with prizes for the most outrageous costumes charge an entry fee and have good fun in aid of a good cause! Or sponsor someone to wear fancy dress to work in aid of the Trust.

3 Fancy dress football - Who says football is boring? Challenge your colleagues, fellow students, teachers or other adults to dress up and compete against each other. Charge per game. Five a side football - Challenge your friends, colleagues or teachers to a football tournament. Each team pays to play and ask local businesses to donate prizes. Fashion show - Put your creative talents to the test and organise a fashion show why not recycle unwanted clothes and make it even more eco-friendly? Advertise locally, invite fashion students to get involved and charge an entry fee to join in. Family fun day - Get the whole family on board and arrange a fun day full of the activities. This can be a great way to raise the profile of the work of the Trust. Why not ask local businesses to sponsor the event or provide in-kind support and charge an entry fee to participate. Face painting competition - Put your artistic talents to good use and paint people s faces. You could have a themed face painting day such as of animals or characters from a book. Remember to charge for your works of face painting art. Film night - Create your own cinema and hold a film night for family and friends. Sell popcorn and drinks and charge an entry fee. Fun run - Get those running shoes on, dress up, get the buggies ready, or even do a three legged fun run! Get a team together and create your own theme for your event. Promote your event locally through friends and family and local businesses and charge for participation. G Give it up! - Get sponsored to go without something. Give up chocolate, coffee, computer games or speaking for a day, week or month! Donate us the money you save or raise. Guess the number of (balloons in a car, sweets in a jar) - Another classic charge a fee per guess and the winner gets a prize for guessing correctly. Donations can be raised in support of the Trust. Guess the weight of (cake, teddy) - Quiz your friends on the weight of the cake, teddy or turkey! Charge a fee per guess and donations are in support of the work of the Trust. Games: scrabble, chess, trivial pursuits etc - For everyone who loves board games why not have a marathon board game tournament? Either pay to play or get sponsored. Green day - Go green and organize an eco event such as a litter pick, recycling or upcycling event! Invite friend and family and remember to charge a fee to participate. H Hula Hoop Contest - How many times can you spin the hula hoop? Organise a hula hoop-athon. Get sponsored by the spin, or the length of time you keep the hoop going.

4 Hair beading, braiding and plaiting - Put your creative talents to good use. Make your friends look cool and raise money for the Trust Head shaving Raise sponsorship to shave your hair off. I Indoor games - Organise an indoor sports challenge don t let bad weather hamper your fundraising and have fun competing with friends and family while raising money for the Trust and keeping active! J Jumble sales - An environmentally friendly way to raise funds. Also, the perfect opportunity to get rid of those unwanted items and perhaps find the next hidden gem for your collection! Charge per stall or an entry fee to raise funds. Jelly races - Have loads of fun with a jelly race theme your jelly mould or add an obstacle course to add to the fun. Pay per race. Jewelry making/selling - Put your creative jewelry making skills to good use and sell your jewelry. You could also share your talent and teach friends and family how to make that perfect party accessory. K Kite flying - When the wind is favorable, why not have a kite flying competition? Why not design the kites and add a prize for the best design to the event. Charge per entry or raise sponsorship. Karaoke - Impress your friends and colleagues with your singing voice? You could make it a team event with prizes and an entry fee per team or pay per tune!. Knitting competition - A great way to get different age groups together and learn to knit! Challenge your friends and community to a knit-off or you could sell or auction your works too to raise funds! Knobbly knees competition - Who in your group of friends or colleagues has the knobbliest knees? Pay to play. L Line dancing - Friends and family can have hours of fun with a line dancing event. You could even organise a line dance-athon. Charge a fee to take part or make it a sponsored event. Litter picking - Organise your local community and host a sponsored litter pick. Raise funds for the National Trust for Scotland, one of our largest conservation charities, while caring for your local community at the same time.

5 Loud tie day - Get sponsored to wear a loud tie to work or school. Or why not add to the fun and design your own with a competition for the loudest tie! Pay to participate. Lunch money Ask colleague and friends to bring sandwiches for lunch and donate the money they save in aid of the Trust. M Magic show - Put your magical talents to good use and organise a show for all your friends. Charge an entry fee to raise funds. Matched giving - Double the money you raise fundraising by asking local businesses to support your cause! Musical evening - Show off your talents and organise an evening of musical entertainment - from singing to playing instruments. Why not add to the event by offering a talk, a tour and refreshments and charge an entry fee to raise funds. Mini Commonwealth Games! - With 2014 nearly upon us, why not test those athletes and hold a mini Commonwealth Games event keep fit and bring friends, family and the community together for some fun. Pay to play. N Nominate a teacher or boss to have their legs, beard or head shaved - Challenge a teacher, tutor, group leader or boss to have a shave or wax for a good cause. Either raise sponsorship for the event or charge an entry fee to watch! Non-Christmas card money raiser - Fed up of sending out Christmas cards to people you sit next to? Ditch the cards and the money you save can go toward supporting the National Trust for Scotland. Nature trail - Organise a nature trail, learn about your local flora and fauna and wildlife and raise money too by charging a fee to participate. Whether you are in a city or in the country, this is a great way to find out more about the natural world around you while supporting a good cause. Nearly new sale - Outgrown those jeans? Never going to wear that party dress again? Only worn something once? Why not sell or swap your unwanted things with your friends, colleagues and group members? Pay a set fee for each item you take.name the teddy - Charge your friends to guess the name of the teddy! The winner gets the bear! Netball tournament - Challenge your friends, teachers or club members to a netball tournament. To add to the fun and get some additional local publicity, why not play your matches in fancy dress too? 6 O Obstacle course - Have fun with an obstacle course and get sponsored too. These events can be designed to suit different ages and abilities, from novice to hardened keep fit fanatics! Odd job Day - Charge a fee for all those odd jobs around the house that need doing. P Penalty shootout - Show off your football skills in a sponsored shoot out. Photo competitions - If you re a budding photographer, hold a competition for interesting snaps. Theme the event and all entrants to pay a fee with a prize for the winning pictures. Pancake race - Hold your own pancake race challenge your friends and family and charge a fee for entry Pin the tail on the donkey - Challenge your friends to a pin the tail on the donkey. Remember to blindfold them and offer a prize for the winner. Pay to play. Pantomime - Putting on a pantomime? Why not host a performance and donate some or all of the ticket sales to the work of the National Trust for Scotland Plant sale - For those with green fingers, sell your produce in a plant sale. These can take place as part of local church sales, car boot sales or local markets. A great way to meet people and tell them why you are raising funds for National Trust for Scotland. Poetry reading - Organise a poetry recital and invite your friends and family. Why not hold a themed poetry event, or use poems from your favorite poet. Set yourself the challenge of reciting your poem from memory. 1 per line the longer the poem the more you raise! Why not visit Robert Burns Birthplace Museum for inspiration! PTA coffee morning - Get the Mums and Dads to organise a coffee morning or combine this with a bring and buy sale with donations going towards the work of the National Trust for Scotland. Q Quiet in the classroom or workplace - sponsored silence - Make your teacher or workmates happy by remaining quite for a few hours, or even a whole day. Remember to get sponsored too! Quizzes - Why not host a quiz night in your local pub, club or school? Create your own to test your friends knowledge and raise money for us by charging per entrant.

7 R Raffles - Get friends and family or local businesses to donate prizes and raffle them off. Remember you may need a permit for some raffles so refer to our fundraising guide for more information. Read-athon - How many books can you read over a short period of time? Get sponsored per page or, for fast readers, per book. Work as teams or individually with a prize for the winner(s) Relays - Organise a sponsored relay race. Add a bit of variety into the race and create an obstacle relay. Rounder s tournament - Challenge your friends and teachers to a rounder s match. Remember it is pay to play. Recycling phones, ink cartridges etc - Upgraded you re mobile and unsure what to do with your old one? You can turn it into money for the Trust. You can also recycle spent ink cartridges, and donate left over foreign coins from your holiday too. (Special collection envelopes available) Recipe swap - Interested in cooking? Why not set up a recipe swap? You can share the produce you have made by hosting cookery demonstrations with friends and colleagues charge per event. Rugby match - Challenge your friends and teachers to a rugby match. Each team pays to play. S Soak the teacher/ group leader/ boss! - See if you can convince your teachers or youth leaders or your boss at work to get in the stocks and get wet! Get people to pay per sponge. Students vs. staff tug of war - A fun way to compete with staff and student groups at school challenge them to a tug of war. Each team pays a fee per game and why not add a fancy dress tug of war event with prizes for some extra fun! Stalls - Take a stall at your local jumble sale, farmers market, and church fete or car boot sale sell donated good in support of the work of the Trust. Sponsored ideas / events - Remember when organising a fundraising event to think about adding a sponsorship element it s a great way of collecting your money. Think of clever ideas that your friends and family can sponsor you for. Salsa Dancing - Put on those dancing shoes and find a salsa partner get sponsored or host a ticketed event in support of the Trust. Staged events/performing arts - Thinking of putting on a show? Invite your friends and family and donate money from ticket sales to us. Get them to pay what they think it s worth. You could even perform your own play and get your dramatic flair and writing skills put into practice in aid of a good cause.

8 Swap shop - Tired of your clothes, toys and books? Then organise a swap shop and exchange the things you are bored of with something different. Charge a 1 per item swapped with donations in support of the work of the National Trust for Scotland. Swishing - Admire a friend s outfit then organize a Swishing event a great, fun way of swapping unwanted clothes for someone else s cast offs. Make a girly afternoon or evening of it with snacks and drinks, and ask for donations in support of the Trust to join in. Remember to promote your events on social media and in your local area to help raise awareness and increase participation. Spell-athon - Do you have a head for spelling? Then organise a spelling competition or spell-athon. Challenge teams of friends and colleagues to correctly spell a certain number of words get sponsored per team or pay to play! Scrabble contest - Challenge your friends to a Scrabble competition. Each competitor pays to play. Swim-athon - Organise a swimming event in aid of the Trust. A great way to get people of all ages together while keeping fit at the same time. The event can have multiple categories for different abilities and prizes for winning teams or individuals. Get sponsored per length or per mile! Shoe shine - Do a good deed for the day and offer your shoe shining services for a fee! T Talent contest - Hold a contest to showcase the talents of your friends and family! Organise a collection or charge at the door for entry. Tombola - Get friends and family to donate gifts and organize a tombola. Only numbers ending in 0 or 5 will win a prize! Treasure Hunt - Create a treasure hunt and challenge your friends to find what you have hidden. Pay to play. Teddy bears picnic - Organise a teddy bears picnic and invite friends and family too. Pay to join in. Three legged race - Team up with a friend and challenge other pairs to a three legged race. To make it more fun, why not do it in fancy dress too? Each team pays to play. U Unwanted Gifts Host a swapathon and exchange that unwanted gift for something you really want! Charge a fee per item or auction unwanted items to raise more money! Uniform free days - Ditch the uniform for a fee, and take the opportunity to wear something more casual to work or school!

Video/DVD night Invite friends round to watch a film and charge a fee for snacks and a sociable night in! W Walk for the Trust - Organise a walk for the Trust and get sponsored too. There are amazing walks to suit all abilities throughout Scotland so this is a fantastic way to get outdoors, get fit and meet new friends! Why not organize a sponsored dog walk too and bring our four legged friends along! Wellie throwing competition - A classic - Put your shot put skills to the test and see how far those wellies can be thrown. Pay to play. Walk-athon - Set yourself a goal and get sponsored to walk to support the work of the Trust. Why not try the West Highland Way, The Southern Upland Way or one of the many other stunning walks available across Scotland. See our stunning country and raise funds to help us conserve its beauty at the same time. Post updates and pictures of your walk on Facebook and Tweet to keep folk up to date with your progress. World food day - Get together with friends and prepare and sell different dishes from around the world. Pay to dine. Waxing! A hair raising way for the boys to get sponsored and support the work of the Trust. Get the sponsored to wax your legs, chest or back! X X-Factor Competition - Celebrate your talents by putting on a show Britain s definitely got talent. Organise your own talent show and invite friends and family too. Have a pay to leave policy just in case! Y Yo-yo competition - Have you got a talent for yo-yoing? Then put your skill to good use and get sponsored. Yodelling competition - If yodelling is your thing, then either get friends to sponsor the loudest or longest yodel or pay you not to do it!
