3 WHY LIVERPOOL? Liverpool s regional economy is one of the fastest growing in England, according to the latest Government data. Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) rank the City Region ninth out of the 39 LEP areas, and the only Northern LEP area in the top 10. Independent research company Capital Economics hailed the city as the best region in the UK for improved productivity per head of population. Under Mayor Anderson s leadership, we have established the first Mayoral Development Corporation outside London with direct control over resources for investment in economic development, skills and infrastructure In the past 15 years, Liverpool has changed. Industrious, well-connected and set for massive expansion, Stonebridge Cross is the city s longest-established manufacturing zone. The Mayoral Development Zone (MDZ) sits on either side of the East Lancashire Road that connects Liverpool to Greater Manchester. It is also close to junctions 4 and 5 of the M57 motorway, providing rapid connections to the national motorway network, the Port of Liverpool and Liverpool John Lennon Airport Modern businesses looking to expand are drawn to the 55 acre Stonebridge Cross development - which already benefits from planning permission for 1 million square feet (93,000 sq metres) of distribution warehousing. Throughout the zone, considerable site assembly, infrastructure and environmental enhancement works make Stonebridge appealing to businesses who are thinking big. With the area s particular strengths in the manufacturing, logistics, service and food sectors, Stonebridge Cross MDZ offers a range of investment opportunities including high quality serviced plots and new business units available for commercial and industrial use at Stonebridge Business Park and Gilmoss Industrial Estate. MEET THE NEIGHBOURS Because of its great location, Stonebridge has become one of the city s premier locations for distribution warehousing. The largest employer in the zone is Home Bargains (owned by TJ Morris) who recently expanded their existing 550,000 sq ft facility employing over 1,000 people with a new 20 million 270,000 sq ft extension at G-Park. Opened in August 2014, it created an additional 150 jobs. Home Bargains also has on site a sales training facility which acts as a regular retail store. G-Park is also home to parcel carrier DHL International, Burtons Biscuit Co and national car dealership Carcraft. The first phase of Stonebridge Business Park, completed in 2008, is now home to housing provider Liverpool Mutual Homes, social business NSC (Neighbourhood Services Company), and Eurofoods. These will soon be joined by parcel delivery firm DPD for whom St Modwen Developments will be constructing a new 70,000 square foot warehouse bringing 230 new jobs. Nearby, Stagecoach own and operate a bus depot for the whole city, whilst to the immediate north of the business park is Merseyside Recycling & Waste Authority s 20 million stateof-the-art materials recovery facility. 3
