1 PROGRAM IN A BOX TITLE: Super Hero Scavenger Hunt PROGRAM CATEGORY: Game AGES: Ages 8+ (Kids or Teens) LENGTH OF EVENT: Approx. 30 minutes CREATED BY: ACTIVITY SUMMARY: Participants solve superhero riddles to advance from one clue to the next, and then unscramble the letters they have acquired at each station to spell out a secret message. MATERIAL LIST: Non- consumables: Laminated clues (7 of each) Laminated letter puzzle pieces (7 of each) Laminated superhero logo signs Consumables: Super Hero Scavenger Hunt instructions (make copies as needed) Prizes, as chosen by the librarian INSTRUCTIONS: Before the game can begin, 7 clue stations need to be placed throughout the library. All clues are designed to lead participants to specific places in the library. When all pieces are collected, the letters can be unscrambled to spell out Power Up. (I ve included more than the required number of clues so that each library can tailor the game to best fit their space. Choose any 7 clues.) Each station will have: Super hero logo to match the clue that led you there Letter puzzle pieces (7 of the same letter) The next clue (6 of the same clue) To begin the game, divide the group into teams (up to 7 teams.) Each team will receive one clue. Participants will then solve the riddle and head to the location designated in the clue. At the clue station, participants will pick up a letter puzzle piece and their next clue. Once all stations have been

2 reached, participants will need to unscramble the letter puzzle pieces they have collected to receive their prize. This game can be played with all teams going to each clue station in the same sequence (by giving all teams the same clue at the beginning) or with all teams going to each station in a random sequence (by giving all teams random clues at the beginning). If played in the same sequence, there will be a definitive start and finish. If played in a random sequence, participants will start at a random clue station and play through the clues until they reach the clue station where they began.
