2 1 EARLY ACCESS PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Wrkflw Autmatin (WFA) Early Access Prgram (EAP) is a unique prgram ffered t select custmers t wrk clsely with an innvative grup within NetApp t help guide the develpment f a cmprehensive and extensible autmatin slutin that we expect will change the future f strage management. The EAP prgram is lead by the previus SANscreen funders and NetApp engineers that initiated the new Wrkflw Autmatin prject. The prgram is expected t run fr six mnths (August 2010 t Feb 2011) and will require very limited time and participatin frm the custmers. The key steps in the EAP prgram Upn jining the EAP prgram custmers will wrk with the NetApp team thrughut the develpment f Wrkflw Autmatin Platfrm until it is available t be used in the custmer s envirnment. Thrughut the prcess the NetApp team will dcument a key prcess r tw that the custmer wuld like t autmate. These prcesses are later verified with the custmer and presented in WFA as a dem t the custmer. The next step will be the installatin f WFA in a custmer lab envirnment fr the custmer t becme mre familiar with WFA and t create additinal wrkflws t meet their strage autmatin needs. The EAP prcess cncludes with an ptin fr the custmer t jin the beta prgram and have ne final pprtunity t impact the WFA prduct develpment. Feedback sessin thrughut the EAP prcess allws infrmatin t be cmmunicated between NetApp and the custmer t imprve the prduct usability fr the custmer. 3 2 WHAT IS WORKFLOW AUTOMATION (WFA)? Wrkflw Autmatin is a prduct currently being develped by NetApp Prduct Operatins t prvide a flexible and extensible architecture fr defining and autmating cmmn wrkflws. The gal is t allw custmers t use GUI cmpnents t define the necessary lgic withut the need t script r write cde. The target markets fr this prduct are large enterprises and service prviders wh are building rchestratin autmatin, prcess autmatin r service catalgue slutins fr cmplex wrkflws within their datacenters. A wrkflw is defined as a repetitive and prcedural task that cnsists f sequential steps. Example fr wrkflws include, prvisining, expansin, decmmissining, migratin, selfhealing and backup. What are WFA s key use cases? They key design gal fr Wrkflw Autmatin is t prvide a flexible and mre simplistic apprach t end-t-end autmatin than what is available tday. 5 3 WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR A POC INSTALLATION? WFA Server VM Pre-requisites The WFA server shuld be installed n a dedicated VM fr the purpse f the POC. This is the recmmended settings fr the VM: VM OS : Windws XP 32Bit Windws Server 2K8 SP2 / Windws Server 2K8 R2 RAM : 3072MB Disk Space : 20GB During the installatin, several applicatins wuld be deplyed as part f WFA installatin: JBss applicatin server MySQL PwerShell 2.0 The fllwing prts are t be pen in the firewall t allw these applicatins t wrk prperly: MySQL 3306 JBss 1098, 1099, 80, 443 In rder t install PwerShell 2.0,.Net 2.0 framewrk run-time patches shuld be fully updated n the VM. Strage Lab envirnmental requirements The WFA Server POC will utilize the custmer lab envirnment. Fr the purpse f the POC the fllwing will be required: IP Access frm the WFA server t the DFM lab server (Where the lab strage arrays are registered) DFM installed with Prtectin Manager (Optinal) DFM installed with Prvisining Manager (Optinal) At least 2 strage arrays (Filers), which: Are registered in the lab DFM server Are available fr creating data prtectin cnnectins Cntain usable primary and secndary aggregates and adhere t any supplied naming cnventins NetApp Early Access Prgram page 5

6 Recmmendatins fr Fibre Channel: A hst with a FC HBA adapter that can attach t the strage array(s) t verity cnnectivity and usability f the created LUNs Recmmendatin fr VMware: An ESX server that can attach t the strage array(s) that is able t cnnect the created datastres and verify their perability NetApp Early Access Prgram page 6
