1 BIOS Ameican Megatends Inc (AMI) v02.61 BIOS setup guide and manual fo AM2/AM2+/AM3 motheboads The BIOS setup, also called CMOS setup, is a cucial pat of the pope setting up of a PC the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) tells the opeating system the chaacteistics of the main basic components of you PC. Because of this, an incoectly set up BIOS can esult in some devices not being ecognised by the opeating system, in significantly below pa pefomance, even pooe pefomance fo 64-bit opeating systems like Vista 64-bit, Windows 7 64-bit, o Windows bit, in oveclocking which could esult in you motheboad fying, o in device conflicts. Thus, if you ae building a new PC, o upgading an existing one, you should know how to set up you BIOS. The two most impotant issues as egads the BIOS setup ae : Who makes it, e.g. Awad, Ameican Megatends (AMI), Phoenix, etc... What evision of the BIOS you motheboad has, e.g. v4.51, v5.00, etc.. In this guide and manual we ae poviding setup guidelines fo the Ameican Megatends Inc (AMI) v02.61 BIOS fo AM2/AM2+/AM3 motheboads (AMD chipset). Getting into the AMI 2.61 BIOS Cold boot you PC (ie. stat it fom the OFF state). When you see AMIBIOS 2009 Ameican Megatends Inc at the top of the sceen, pess the Delete key epeatedly till you get a blue sceen with the following title and foote : BIOS Setup Utility v02.61 Copyight , Ameican Megatends, Inc. 2 You ae now in the BIOS/CMOS setup. The Main BIOS Menu When you successfully get into the BIOS setup, you will be pesented with the following hoizontal menu, and you will aleady be in the MAIN section : Main Advanced Powe Boot Tools Exit The sections that follow povide guidelines on how to set up the vaious settings in each section of the BIOS. We have concentated only on those settings that may need changing if a setting does not appea in this document, leave it as you found it. You can move between sections of the BIOS using the Left and Right aow keyboad keys. Check the ight-hand side of the sceen at all times it displays which keyboad keys ae available to you to move aound o to change the options o you can pess F1 at any time to view the keyboad keys that you can use. MAIN System Time System Date : Set both the System Date and System Time. You can move between the vaious pats of the date and of the time using the TAB key. To move between the System Time and System Date use the UP and DOWN keyboad aow keys. This is an absolutely vital setting. IDE Configuation : Go into it and make sue you IDE contolles ae enabled, that you Seial-ATA devices ae set to all the devices available, and that RAID is tuned off (unless, of couse, you want to set up a RAID system). 3 ADVANCED CPU Configuation Cool n Quiet : We set it to DISABLED but if this is a home PC and you nomally leave it ON all the time, day and night, then you may want to switch this ON to conseve electicity and un you PC coole at the slight expense of esponsiveness pefomance. CPU Configuation CPU Pefetching : Make sue this is set to ENABLED (setting it to DISABLED will seiously slow down you PC). Chipset Southbidge Configuation Font Panel Select : HD Audio Chipset Southbidge Configuation HPET (ACPI HPET table) : ENABLED Onboad Devices Configuation Seial Pot : DISABLED (no-one uses seial pots nowadays) Onboad Devices Configuation Paallel Pot : DISABLED (unless you ae using a vey old pinte which does not have a USB connection all pintes ae USB nowadays) PCIPnP Plug and Play O/S : YES (all opeating systems ae Plug and Play nowadays, whethe it is Windows, NetWae, o Linux why the default fo this setting is NO beggas belief) USB Functions : ENABLED USB 2.0 Contolle : ENABLED Legacy USB Suppot : AUTO (so that you PC can ecognize extenal had dives, floppy dives, CD/DVD dives) USB 2.0 Contolle Mode : HiSpeed Page 3 of 5

4 POWER Suspend Mode : AUTO ACPI 2.0 Suppot : ENABLED ACPI APIC Suppot : ENABLED Hadwae Monito Smat Q-FAN function : DISABLED (It is ou expeience that, acoss all motheboad manufactues and acoss vaious models fom the same manufactue, some motheboads occasionally get wong the automatic adjustment of the CPU fan speed with the esult that you CPU oveheats and the alam sounds fo this eason we always disable this setting which in tun esults in the CPU fan always spinning at its maximum numbe of RPM, evolutions pe minute, egadless of whethe the CPU is busy, and theefoe unning hotte, o not; this is called going fo safety fist!). BOOT 1 st Boot Device : Set that to you DVD Dive if you ae about to set up you PC with the DVD dive, o set it to you boot Had Disk fo nomal PC usage. 2 nd Boot Device : DISABLED 3 d Boot Device : DISABLED 4 th Boot Device : DISABLED Quick Boot : DISABLED (Disabling Quick Boot enables you to catch the POST sceen, the BIOS Summay sceen, whee you can pess Delete in ode to be able to ente the BIOS it also enables you to notice poblems highlighted in the POST sceen at boot-up). 5 Full Sceen Logo : DISABLED (Disabling the Full Sceen Logo allows you to be able to see the BIOS Summay sceen whee you can check that eveything is fine just befoe the PC boots up into Windows). Boot-up NUM Lock : ON Wait fo F1 if Eo : ENABLED Hit DEL message display : ENABLED Secuity Change Supeviso Passwod : Go ahead and set up a passwod to pevent uses othe than you fom being able to modify the BIOS (something which can happen by accident if someone accidentally hits the Delete key as the PC is booting up).
