Ngai Journal of Solid State Lighting20163:1 Received: 15 October 2015 Accepted: 8 April 2016 Published: 26 April 2016 Abstract Task -Ambient lighting provides energy saving but space surrounding the users can be dim and unpleasant. This study proposed a solution of an additional Surround Layer of light. Though a series of simulated lighting scenarios, it examined illumination requirements, dimensionality and appearance of the space by the use of Vector/Scalar and Task/Vertical Illumination Ratios. They were evaluated under several illuminance requirements, Task-Surround combinations and Surround Light source sizes. The results showed that by adding a Surround Light Layer, visual appearance of space surrounding the users could be enhanced and energy savings could be achieved. 24

32 Mark Ballogg 2014 I love that Trilia OLED luminaire allows you to have a connection to nature. It hints back to something more organic, more inspiring. There is something about this particular product that lends itself to a creative connection. When visitors are in our space, they are often so intrigued that they ask to physically touch it. - Leslie North, Aurora Lighting Design OLED system delivered much higher quality lighting produces high vertical illuminances on surfaces (such as walls) and excellent facial modeling; a soft light distribution that reduces harsh shadows from objects very pleased with the finished appearance and function of the OLED system. They made positive descriptive comments about the lighting, such as soft, inspiring, desirable uniformity of light for the office The installation was time-consuming because the contractor had not installed such a system before, and because of the high level of precision required to locate mounting points in a limitedaccess ceiling, and the complexity of the wiring between the panel sections and the many drivers in spite of a few field issues. Approximately 2 months after installation was complete, a driver failed and was replaced; 2 months later, an OLED panel failed and was replaced. The only unresolvable issue is photometric flicker of approximately 77% to 100% at 261 Hz 32
