NOTE: Verificaon is intended to ensure that students receive the maximum aid for which they are eligible, NOT because fraud or misrepresentaon is suspected. WHY was your file selected? Because the FAFSA applicaon has esmated informaon, primary quesons were le) blank, or there seems to be conflicng data. WHAT do I do if I am selected? The UNCG Financial Aid Office will nofy the student (not the parent) via UNCG with informaon on compleng the process. COMMON DOCUMENTS INCLUDE (Note: type of documents required will vary from school to school): Compleon of the Verificaon Worksheet Updated FAFSA indicang use of IRS Data Retrieval Tool or IRS Tax RETURN Transcript IRS Data Retrieval Tool (Available for the current tax year in early February) Allows most on-line FAFSA filers to pull their tax data directly from the Internal Revenue Service to auto-fill the tax poron of the FAFSA May allow for faster processing me during the verificaon process How to Obtain a Tax RETURN Transcript from the IRS You or your parent(s) can immediately access a Tax Return Transcript, Wage and Income Transcripts or a Verificaon of Non-filing Le9er. Once you begin submi?ng documentaon the Financial Aid Office will: 1. Review the documents to be sure they are complete. This can take two to three weeks depending upon the volume of all student paperwork being submi9ed. 2. If the documents are incomplete (missing signatures, quesons are le) blank, etc.) we will request that the documents be resubmi9ed with the informaon necessary to make them complete. NOTE: Each me you have to resubmit informaon the process starts over. Because processing can take two to three weeks you need to be sure your documents are COMPLETE when you first submit them. 3. Once all documents are complete, the Financial Aid Office will review the informaon and compare it with the informaon reported on the FAFSA. 4. During the review, if the informaon submi9ed raises addional quesons for which we need clarificaon, we may ask for more documentaon. NOTE: If you have to submit addional informaon the process starts over so respond to these requests as quickly as possible. WHAT happens if there are discrepancies in the application? If discrepancies are found, the Financial Aid Office will make correcons to your FAFSA. If the correcons lead to a change in your eligibility, the Financial Aid Office will revise your award and send an to your UNCG account le?ng you know that changes have been made. HOW can verification affect my bill? Financial Aid will only be awarded once the Verificaon process is complete. Without an award there will be no financial aid reflected on your billing statement to reduce the balance due, making you responsible for the enre balance owed for the semester. Contact the Cashiers Office at (336) with billing quesons. UNCG Address Your UNCG is the primary means by which the FAO will communicate requests for informaon. Be sure to check it o)en.
