7 Chapter 1: Getting Started This section contains the following topics: Local License Server Overview (see page 7) System Requirements (see page 7) Local License Server Overview The local license server is typically used when DevTest is running on a network that does not have direct Internet access. The current version of the local license server is Note: A recent update to the License Server Generator has caused the licenses generated from December 2014 to present to possibly remove license options. If you are experiencing license problems, please upgrade your LLS to the latest version. System Requirements Typically, the local license server processes fewer than 1000 hits per day from the various DevTest clients. The computer on which you run the local license server needs minimal hardware. For example: 1.73 GHz CPU 1 GB RAM Allow for 100 MB of disk space. Sun JDK 1.6 must be preinstalled on the computer. DevTest uses the HTTP protocol over port 8081 to communicate with the local license server. Chapter 1: Getting Started 7

9 Chapter 2: Setting Up the Local License Server This section contains the following topics: Download the Installer (see page 9) Install the Local License Server (see page 9) Configure the Local License Server (see page 12) Point DevTest to the Local License Server (see page 12) Local License Server Reports (see page 13) Download the Installer Download the appropriate installer for your platform: Windows 32-bit Java (itko-license-server_windows_2_1_2.exe) Windows 64-bit Java (itko-license-server_windows_x64_2_1_2.exe) OS X (itko-license-server_macos_2_1_2.dmg) Linux or UNIX (itko-license-server_unix_2_1_2.sh) To determine whether you have 32-bit Java or 64-bit Java installed on Windows, open a command prompt and run the following command: java -version If the output contains the text 64-Bit, you have 64-bit Java installed. If the output does not contain this text, you have 32-bit Java installed. Install the Local License Server This topic describes how to install the local license server on Windows and UNIX. 10 Install the Local License Server Install the Local License Server on Windows Follow these steps: 1. Create an empty directory to hold the license files. This directory can be anywhere as long as the license server can read it. 2. Run the installer. The setup wizard opens. 3. Click Next. The Select Destination Directory step opens. 4. Specify the directory where you want to install the local license server. 5. Click Next. The itko License Server Home step opens. 6. Specify the directory that you created to hold the license files. 7. Click Next. The Select Start Menu Folder step opens. 8. If you do not want to create a Start menu folder, clear the Create a Start Menu folder check box and click Next. 9. If you do want to create a Start menu folder, perform the following actions: a. Enter the name of the Start menu folder. A default value is provided. b. If you do not want to create shortcuts for all users using DevTest, clear the Create shortcuts for all users check box. c. Click Next. The Windows Services step opens. 10. Specify the options for installing the local license server as a Windows service. 11. Click Next to start the installation. When the installation is finished, the Completing the itko-license-server Setup Wizard step opens. 12. Click Finish. 10 Local License Server

11 Install the Local License Server Install the Local License Server on UNIX Follow these steps: 1. Create an empty directory to hold the license files. This directory can be anywhere as long as the license server can read it. 2. Run the installer. The setup wizard opens. 3. Click Next. The Select Destination Directory step opens. 4. Specify the directory where you want to install the local license server. 5. Click Next. The itko License Server Home step opens. 6. Specify the directory that you created to hold the license files. 7. Click Next. The Select Directory for Symlinks step opens. 8. Specify the directory where the local license server creates symbolic links to the executable files. You must have the required permissions to write to the directory. If you do not want symbolic links to be created, clear the check box. 9. Click Next. The Daemons step opens. 10. Review the daemons that will be installed for the server components and click Next to start the installation. When the installation is finished, the Completing the Setup Wizard step opens. 11. 12 Configure the Local License Server Configure the Local License Server This topic describes how to configure the local license server after installation. Follow these steps: 1. If you installed the local license server as a service, you can start the service by using the service admin tool of the platform you are on. On Windows, the service installs but does not start until you manually start the service or Windows is restarted. 2. If you did not install the local license server as a service, run the start-windows.bat, start-unix-linux.sh, or start-osx.command script in the installation directory and wait until the server has started. 3. Go to A login page opens. 4. In the User Name field, enter admin. 5. In the Password field, enter admin Click Login. The admin console appears. The information includes a row that begins with MAC. 7. Create a new STAR issue, or update an existing STAR issue, with the value of the MAC row. 8. Log out of the admin console. 9. When you receive the license files, place them in the directory that you created during the installation procedure. 10. Restart the local license server. 11. Log in to the admin console again. The admin console now includes a list of the available licenses. Point DevTest to the Local License Server Once the server has restarted with the license files intact, you can launch DevTest. Edit the license settings in the local.properties file: Set the license server property to If you are not running DevTest on the same computer as the license server, use the computer name or IP address instead of localhost, but continue using port Set the domain property to the domain in the license settings . Set the user name property to the user name in the license settings . Set the password property to the password in the license settings Local License Server

13 Local License Server Reports Local License Server Reports The following reports are available from the admin console: Current checkout report: Shows the licenses that are currently checked out. Hourly checkout report: Shows how many licenses are checked out at the top of the hour for each license holder. Access log report: Shows each occurrence of a license being checked out, refreshed, or checked in. By default, access log and hourly checkout reports are retained for 60 days. You can change the number of days by setting a system property named itko.local.license.server.numberdaystokeeplog. Contact support for more information specific to your platform. However, keep in mind that the longer you keep old log data, the more resources (memory and disk space) are required by the local license server. Current Checkout Report The current checkout report shows the licenses that are currently checked out. This report contains the following information: Domain Name The last node of the license domain. Holder Name The name of the license holder. Issue Date The date and time when the license was checked out. Valid Until The date and time when the checkout expires. Checkout Key The unique value assigned for the duration that the key is checked out. Chapter 2: Setting Up the Local License Server 13

14 Local License Server Reports Hourly Checkout Report The hourly checkout report shows how many licenses are checked out at the top of the hour for each license holder. This report contains the following information: ID The identification number of the hourly checkout. Domain ID The identification number of the license domain. Domain Name The last node of the license domain. Holder ID The identification number of the license holder. Holder Name The name of the license holder. Report Date Count The date and time. How many licenses are checked out. Typically, a server has a specific number of licenses that are checked out all day. The Enterprise Workstation typically varies throughout the day and night. 14 Local License Server

15 Local License Server Reports Access Log Report The access log report shows each occurrence of a license being checked out, refreshed, or checked in. This report contains the following information: Checkout Key The unique value assigned for the duration that the key is checked out. Domain Name The last node of the license domain. Holder Name The name of the license holder. Access Time Action The date and time when the access took place. The type of action. The valid values are checkout, refresh, and checkin. Product App Name Component name such as DevTest Workstation and DevTest Registry. Client Version Specific to licensing versions. Client Buildnum Full build number Product Version Results IP Major and minor versions. The value OK indicates that the checkout succeeded. IP address of the client s computer. address of the license key holder. License Violations This column reports violations such as All licenses checked out and Transactions per day limit has been exceeded. 17 Chapter 3: Local License Server Troubleshooting This section contains the following topics: Local license server will not start (see page 17) Cannot log in using the user name and password specified in the instructions after installing the license server (see page 18) Cannot find the directory named C:/Documents and Settings/john/itko-license-server-home (see page 18) Could not find datasource: java:/lafds javax.naming.namenotfoundexception: lafds not bound (see page 19) After I get a new license for the VSE Server, the Help > LISA Runtime Information dialog in LISA Workstation shows 0 Services and 100 TPD (see page 19) I am not sure what version of the local license server I am running (see page 19) Port 8081 is used by an internal process (see page 20) Local license server will not start If the local license server will not start or run correctly, check the log files. The log files are located in the INSTALL_DIR/jboss/server/default/log directory, where INSTALL_DIR is the directory in which the local license server is installed. For example: C:\Program Files\itko-license-server\jboss\server\default\log The server.log file is the most helpful file to send to support when debugging issues. Chapter 3: Local License Server Troubleshooting 17

18 Cannot log in using the user name and password specified in the instructions after installing the license server Cannot log in using the user name and password specified in the instructions after installing the license server This issue can occur if the directory specified to hold the license files during installation is not readable or does not exist. The server may indicate that the user name and/or password is invalid or throw an exception when attempting to log into the server. To verify this is the problem, check the server.log file for the following error: Cannot find the directory named C:/Documents and Settings/john/itko-license-server-home designated by the property in the system properties named: itko-license-server-home. If you need assistance, please contact If this is the case, shut down the server and check the home directory specified by the itko-license-server-home property in the INSTALL_DIR/jboss/server/default/deploy/properties-service.xml file. Then correct the issue with the directory with one of the following solutions: If the directory does not exist, create the specified directory. If the directory exists, correct permissions on the directory or correct any access issues the server may be having with that directory. If the directory specified is not the correct directory, change the itko-license-server-home property in the properties-service.xml file to designate the correct directory. This problem can also be caused by having invalid license files located in the directory designated to hold the license files. If you need to contact CA Support, open a STAR issue and attach the logs. The address is no longer valid. Cannot find the directory named C:/Documents and Settings/john/itko-license-server-home The server.log file contains the following error: Cannot find the directory named C:/Documents and Settings/john/itko-license-server-home designated by the property in the system properties named: itko-license-server-home. It should give the location to a readable/writable directory on the local file system. If you need assistance, please contact You need to create the itko-license-server-home directory. 19 Could not find datasource: java:/lafds javax.naming.namenotfoundexception: lafds not bound Could not find datasource: java:/lafds javax.naming.namenotfoundexception: lafds not bound The server.log file contains the following error: :30:38,645 FATAL [org.hibernate.connection.datasourceconnectionprovider] Could not find datasource: java:/lafds javax.naming.namenotfoundexception: lafds not bound The database is corrupted and needs to be rebuilt. The local license server uses Hypersonic for the database. Try stopping the local license server service and then removing the files named laf* from the INSTALL_DIR/jboss/server/default/data/hypersonic directory. Now start the service and see if that makes a difference. After I get a new license for the VSE Server, the Help > LISA Runtime Information dialog in LISA Workstation shows 0 Services and 100 TPD You must upgrade the local license server software on your local license server. Be sure to uninstall and delete the jboss folder in INSTALL_DIR/jboss/server/default/log. For example: C:\Program Files\itko-license-server\jboss. I am not sure what version of the local license server I am running Go to the INSTALL_DIR/.install4j directory. Open the i4jparams.conf file in a text editor and locate the following line: <variable name="sys.version" value="2.1.2" /> The value attribute specifies the version number. I would like the local license server to use another port, such as To change the port number, go to the INSTALL_DIR/jboss/server/default/deploy/jbossweb-tomcat55.sar directory. Open the server.xml file and locate where port 8081 is referenced. Change 8081 to the new port number. Restart the local license server.
