1 Resistance training, also known as strength training, can incorporate a variety of fitness equipment including weights, resistance tubes and power bands. Depending on the level you work at, resistance training can help improve a number of different areas of fitness including maximising muscle gains or effectively toning and defining muscle groups. At your weakest point (usually the beginning of the motion) the band or tube will offer little to no resistance. As your muscles contract and the band stretches, greater levels of resistance are added incrementally. This allows for an optimal level of muscle strengthening throughout the full range of motion. As an alternative to traditional weight lifting, new products like resistance tubes and power bands are becoming more popular for both individual workouts as well as in group settings. Resistance tubes The traditional resistance tube offers an excellent and versatile method for building functional strength. Unlike with free weights, resistance tubes ensure that the same level of resistance is maintained throughout every part of the motion for complete muscle stimulation. Resistance tubes are available in a variety of levels of resistance to offer different levels of difficulty to a strength training workout. Because these tubes are lightweight and flexible, they can even be doubled up for resistance and used for a wide range of traditional moves including the chest and shoulder presses, rows, squats and even bicep curls. Further, you can use them in conjunction with many other pieces of fitness equipment including the Reebok Deck or any type of flat or utility bench. Power bands Unlike resistance tubes, power bands are designed in a fully enclosed loop, making them ideal for a number of different resistance training exercises. Power bands can be used to add explosive power to a range movements including squats, deadlifts and bench presses. Power bands are designed to work in conjunction with a number of traditional strength-based exercises to add extra resistance throughout the entire motion. Power bands are also very useful in assisting pullups and can be used independently or in conjunction with benches, the Reebok Deck or CrossFit rigs. Power bands can aid users in performing all kinds of movements throughout a variety of workout routines including aerobics, strength, flexibility, toning, explosive powers and improves plyometrics. The Reebok Power Bands come in three different resistance levels and can help in training in hundreds of ways reebok professional

3 gymba roll with it. Gymballs are an excellent fitness tool to help improve abdominal strength, posture and flexibility. When coupled with weighted products, gymballs can also provide a great upper body and core workout to help improve overall fitness. Gymballs are a great alternative to regular weight lifting benches as well, as they require users to engage more muscles for stability. Reebok Gymballs are designed with a higher density rubber in the base than regular gymballs to add stability during harder exercises as well as prevent the ball from rolling away during a workout routine. Reebok Gymballs also incorporate an anti-burst rubber compound that provides safety and peace of mind. What is anti-burst? The anti-burst element is very important when it comes to the safety of the gymball user. If punctured during use, Reebok Gymballs will deflate slowly, allowing the user to dismount safely without risking injury. Choosing the Right Exercise Ball The right sized gymball is important for users to be able to get the most out of their workout routine. Reebok Gymball sizes are displayed on the top of the ball which can help avoid over or under inflation. The following offers a guide to the recommended ball size for different heights: 55cm cm 65cm cm 75cm cm To see whether the height of the ball is appropriate, sit on the ball with both feet planted on the floor and the knees should be a little lower than the pelvis making a 90 degree angle. 7 yoga when LIFE BENDS, BEND WITH IT. What is yoga? Those who have ever tried yoga usually view the exercise as simple stretching and breathing techniques. While Yoga does involve these elements, it is really focused on creating balance in the body to develop strength, flexibility and stamina. To achieve these goals, you can utilise various types of yoga which all incorporate a variety of poses aimed at different fitness goals. Yoga poses can be performed in quick succession to develop flexibility and strength, or slowly to build stamina and endurance. Many health clubs will focus on the physical benefits of yoga practice for a different approach to a traditional workout. Benefits of yoga? Yoga can provide endless health and fitness benefits to those who practice it. With a number of different styles of yoga, you can assess your overall fitness goal before deciding which type to perform. The most obvious and consistent benefits include improved flexibility, increased strength and balance and ease on your joints and muscles. Yoga also provides spiritual benefits with many elements of meditation being incorporated throughout the movements. A number of different fitness accessories can be used during yoga class to help both beginners and advanced users stabilise themselves and work on improving the poses they perform reebok professional
8 What type of yoga equipment do i need? The essential piece of equipment needed during a yoga workout is the yoga mat. Many of the poses performed during a yoga class should not be done on a hard floor, but rather on a mat that is specifically designed for this type of workout. The best yoga mats have a slightly sticky texture to prevent the user or the mat from slipping during static poses. Mats are essential for all components of the yoga workout and are offered in a variety of types. Reebok Yoga Mats come in two general types; the standard mat utilises the sticky texture and the Reebok Premium Yoga Mat is latex and pvc free. Yoga Block These blocks can be essential for reaching certain yoga poses, especially for beginners. When looking for yoga blocks, choose one with higher density foam and a rectangular shape to offer a longerlasting, more versatile yoga prop. High quality dense foam 22 x 14 x 7.5 cm rsyg Yoga Strap Similar to the yoga block, the yoga strap also helps you perform different poses while simultaneously building strength, aiding flexibility and focusing on proper alignment. The buckle is an essential part of the design for the purpose of adjusting the length and creating a loop for specific yoga poses. 9 MATS Which mat should I choose? Exercise mats come in all different shapes and sizes to suit different types of workouts. To choose the right mat is very important for anyone performing a fitness routine. The use of a mat is often essential for those activities such as yoga and pilates, and are offered in a number of different materials, surfaces and thickness to tailor to the user s needs. Pilates Mats Pilates mats are similar to yoga mats in many ways, though they often offer a longer and thicker surface to work on. Reebok Pilates Mats are made with a firm, closed-cell construction that incorporates added thickness to support balance and alignment during the workout. Unlike yoga mats, pilates mats aren t very sticky and integrate an easy-to-wipe surface after use. Yoga Mats Reebok Yoga Mats are thinner than pilates mats with the sole intention of providing cushioning for poses rather than to take an impact from various movements. The texture of the Reebok Yoga Mat is sticky to help your hands and feet stay in position during poses and prevent the mat from slipping. Reebok Yoga Mats can be stored on the Reebok Mat Rack using the eyelets integrated into the design. Studio Mats Studio mats typically offer a solid allaround design for a multitude of exercises, stretches and balance workouts. With a cushioned surface, the standard studio mat provides a sufficient amount of cushioning between the user and the hard floor. Used during a variety of different types of workouts, studio mats almost always feature a non-slip base and an easy-toclean vinyl surface. The Reebok Studio Mat also integrates eyelets for efficient storage with the Reebok Mat Rack. editors pick Yoga mat 31 reebok professional

13 FOAM ROLLERS Foam rolling is a form of self-myofascial release, or self-massage, that can help loosen up tight muscles and stimulate the healing and recovery process. Foam rolling actively helps to massage out muscle fascla which is a layer of connective tissue that wraps and connects nerves, bones and muscle throughout the body. Traditional stretching techniques simply cause increase in muscle length, but self-myofascial release by using foam rollers offers these benefits in addition to breaking down soft tissue adhesion. What are the benefits of foam rolling? To be expected with any type of physical activity, tightness and stiffness of the muscles is inevitable. Foam rolling has been proven to help your body recover faster so you can remain active. Foam rolling increases blood flow to the targeted muscles, helping accelerate recovery post-workout It improves mobility and flexibility to help increase range of motion Can help fix posture Acts as a core body workout on its own merit editors pick Compact, lightweight and efficient - the tube foam roller offers something different to the standard rollers and aids deeper muscle recovery. Which foam roller should I choose? Long foam roller The long foam roller is ideal if you intend to use it to massage out tightness in your back. The Reebok Long Foam Roller measures 90cm which will allow you to roll with it perpendicular to your back without worrying about falling off of the end. The long foam roller can also be used to create proper alignment by laying on it parallel to your spine, giving your back full support while rolling out. Use the long foam roller for core stability or to apply a medium amount of massage pressure. Made from high density foam, the design of this foam roller ensures it will not warp over time. Short foam roller Use the shorter version of the Reebok Foam Roller if you intend to take it with you to the gym or fitness class for easy recovery after your workout. The Reebok Short Foam Roller is 45cm in length to help you target specific muscle groups for focused recovery post-workout. Again, the high density foam ensures the roller will not warp after prolonged use and is suitable for applying medium amounts of massage pressure. Tube foam roller Similar to the short foam roller, the Reebok Tube Foam Roller is great to transport to and from the gym or fitness class. Measuring 45cm long, the tube foam roller is different than traditional foam rollers because it features a harder inner core which helps with a deeper, harder selfmassage on focused muscle groups. The multi-layered construction of the inner core makes the tube foam roller much more durable than traditional foam rollers reebok professional
