This year the Vol au Vent chair, designed by Mario Bellini in 2001, celebrates 10 years of success in the B&B Italia collection, ranking once again as a bestseller in the category of chairs. Sleek and light, Vol au Vent is a bridge between classical and modern, a balance between full bodied and slender. This padded chair made of a single material with a removable full cover changes expression depending on the chosen cover: traditional with a fabric and leather cover, or more technical with options of fabrics specially designed for this chair. Milano Design Weekend chooses Grande Papilio as Cult Item Milan, 22 December 2010 Milano Design Weekend, which has reached its second edition - it was held in Milan last October - has assigned the Cult Item award to Grande Papilio, the armchair and ottoman, by B&B Italia. Designed by Naoto Fukasawa with harmonious and sculptural design features, the armchair was one of the most voted and appreciated products by the public at the Milanese kermess. 6 Two B&B Italia Contract Division projects are the winners of 2010 European Hotel Design Awards. London, November 2010 The jury of The Sleep Event, one of the most prestigious events centred on design and architecture in the field of Contract furnishings, has awarded its prizes to two of the latest creations of B&B Italia s Contract Division. Hotel Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona was the winner for the categories Conversion of an Existing Building to Hotel Use and Restaurant. The prize for the Suite category was awarded to the Greek resort The Romanos - Costa Navarino. The first project involved partnering Studio Urquiola in supplying and installing fixed and mobile furnishings in all of the rooms and the common areas such as the restaurant, the lobby, the bars, and the spa. For the Romanos Costa Navarino resort, the Contract Division created over 800 turn-key units including suites, rooms and presidential villas. Mandarin Oriental Barcelona Romanos Costa Navarino Bend-Sofa wins the Best of Year Award New York, December 2010 B&B Italia s 1000th project, the Bend-Sofa by Patricia Urquiola, was awarded a Best of Year Award by Interior Design Magazine. The Best of Year Awards are the preeminent design competition recognizing superior interior design projects and products. Bend-Sofa won in the residential seating category. 7 Lecture with Patricia Urquiola On February 3rd, Luminaire Coral Gables will host a lecture with Patricia Urquiola to discuss and celebrate her work, including the introduction of the Bend Sofa, which has received critical acclaim for it s ingenious technical features. B&B Italia, who represents many of Urquiola s creations, has been a close friend and collaborator of Luminaire for nearly 25 years. Attending the lecture will give you the opportunity to visit the new B&B Italia shop-inshop at Luminaire. 8 IN NEW YORK B&B Italia Soho is housing an impressive display dedicated to Patricia Urquiola s Bend-Sofa. The display features an interactive element wherein customers can create their own configurations using miniature puzzlepiece like recreations of the sofa units. The 58th street showroom had dedicated much of its space to the sofas of Antonio Citterio as well as larger-thanlife blowups of the new ad campaign to accompany them. Also coming on display for the first time are the Eracle Storage Units and Plato Table with Acanto Chairs.
