3 HID lighting High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting technologies are different from traditional light sources in that they replace the filament with a capsule of gas. Using ballasts that control the proper voltage and current, HID lamps create an arch discharge between two electrodes that results in the emission of light. Wave Lighting offers two types of HID lighting; High Pressure Sodium (H) and Metal Halide (MH), which use less energy while providing more light output and longer service life than incandescent light sources.
