3 TREATMENT OF SPECIFIC PESTS Treat specific insect pests according to the following tables. Seek professional advice upon threshold levels of pests justifying treatment. PEST WINTER AND SPRING OILSEED RAPE Cabbage stem flea beetle (winter crops) Timing Beetles: if adults are causing serious leaf damage, spray immediately. Larvae: spray again about 4 weeks after the spray against beetles when the eggs begin to hatch and small larvae can be found in the leaf petioles. If the spray against beetles could not be justified and was not made, spray on finding the larvae in the petioles. Repeat if required up to the end of March. Rate of use in 300 l/ha water per application plus authorised adjuvant at the recommended rate. Rape winter stem weevil Pollen beetle Cabbage seed weevil Brassica pod midge Egg hatch can be variable over the season; cold weather delays egg hatch. This pest is normally sufficiently controlled by the treatment to control cabbage stem flea beetle but if heavy attacks are experienced, spray as soon as eggs or larvae are found. Spray at green bud if threshold levels* of pollen beetle occur. Repeat during yellow bud if threshold levels reoccur in spring oilseed rape. Gives simultaneous reduction of adult cabbage stem weevil if these are present in the crop at the time of application. Spray flowering winter crops at peak of adult activity, normally between 20% pod set and the end of flowering on the main pod raceme (this equates to 80% petal fall overall), if threshold levels * of cabbage seed weevil occur. Spray spring crops, normally from the early yellow bud stage of the crop, if threshold levels * of cabbage seed weevil occur. Repeat up to midlate flowering, normally between 20% pod set and the end of flowering on the main raceme (this equates to 80% petal fall overall), if threshold levels reoccur during this period. in l/ha water 500 ml/ha in 300 l/ha water *Consult your professional advisor GRASSLAND Frit fly POTATOES AND SUGAR BEET Cutworm At seedling emergence before damage is apparent Spray at egg hatch or upon professional advice. Repeat after 1014 days. in at least 200 l/ha water in l/ha water

4 WINTER WHEAT, BARLEY AND OATS AUTUMNSOWN SPRING WHEAT AND BARLEY DURUM WHEAT, RYE AND TRITICALE Aphids as vectors (reduction of barley yellow dwarf virus) CROPS AT HIGH RISK TO BYDV Crops in mild weather areas, especially coastal yellow dwarf virus areas, early drilled crops and those near or after grass crops or containing carriedover grass weeds or volunteer cereals are at high risk. Spray crops sown before mid September, in midoctober or upon finding aphid in the crop and repeat at the end of aphid migration normally between endoctober and earlynovember. Spray crops sown midseptember to midoctober between endoctober and earlynovember or according to professional advice. CROPS AT MEDIUMLOW RISK TO BYDV Crops not normally considered to be at high risk should be regularly surveyed and sprayed, if justified, on the basis of aphid counts. Spray vulnerable crops sown before midseptember, in midoctober; spray vulnerable crops sown mid September to midoctober between endoctober and earlynovember or according to professional advice. A spring application may be justified following a mild winter if it can be accommodated within the statutory conditions. Spray shortly before peak egg hatch usually early February in 200 l/ha water Up to two applications may be made before the 2nd node is detectable and before 31st March in year of harvest. Yellow cereal fly in at least 200 l/ha water BROCCOLI, BRUSSELS SPROUT, CABBAGE, CALABRESE AND CAULIFLOWER Caterpillar VINING PEAS WINTER AND SPRING FIELD BEANS Pea and bean weevil adults (reduction of leaf notching) Pea moth APPLES Applegrass aphid Apple sucker Spray as soon as pest or damage is seen. Repeat if necessary. Spray if adult weevil feeding is severely in 200 l/ha water damaging the growing points of young crops. Repeat 23 weeks later if leaf notching at the growing point is still occurring with an insecticidal product containing an alternative active ingredient to Cypermethrin Time treatments according to counts in in l/ha water pheromone traps or upon professional advice. Spray flowering crops of vining peas once only on the estimated date but at least 7 days before harvest. Pea aphid present at the time of an application of TOPPEL 100 EC made to control pea moth will be partially controlled. Where repeat treatments are necessary use an alternative active ingredient to cypermethrin. Spray at green cluster in l/ha water plus authorised adjuvant at the recommended rate ml/ha in 200 l/ha water Use higher rate on large trees or where infestation levels are high

Spray again after 3 weeks and if necessary in late July or early August. Apply in late February or early March. Repeat spray after 14 days. Spray after petal fall if necessary Spray up to white bud if necessary. Apply the first spray when aphids first appear in the crop. Repeat at 1014 day intervals. Spray as soon as the pest or damage is seen. Repeat if necessary. Test spray any new or unusual variety before treating large numbers of plants. Spray as soon as the pest or damage is seen. Repeat if necessary. Spray at egg hatch or upon professional advice. Repeat after 1014 days. Apply in late February or early March. Repeat spray after 14 days. Top up the spray tank with water and keep under constant agitation both before, during and until completion of spraying. Thoroughly wash all equipment after use. SPRAY APPLICATION AND WEATHER CONDITIONS Apply TOPPEL 100 EC as a MEDIUM spray (BCPC definition) to a dry crop. Do not spray when frost, ice or snow is present. Efficacy may be reduced if the temperature is 30 C (86 F) or more. Increase the volume of water proportional to the crop growth using the maximum recommended spray volume when the vegetation is most dense. Spray evenly and ensure thorough even coverage of the crop foliage. Pendant spray booms can give superior spray cover and efficacy in Brussels sprout. Avoid spray drift onto nearby crops. Caution: do not apply TOPPEL 100 EC in less than the minimum volume of water stated in the tables. COMPATIBILITY TOPPEL 100 EC is compatible with any one of the following:

Before using any tank mixtures, consult and comply with the recommendations of the partner product(s) Brand names used in this guide are trademarks of other manufacturers for which propriety rights may exist. PROCESSED CROPS Processors should be consulted before treating crops in which they have an interest. RESISTANT STRAINS Strains of some aphid species are resistant to many aphicides. Where aphids resistant to products containing cypermethrin occur, TOPPEL 100 EC is unlikely to give satisfactory control. Repeat treatments are likely to result in lower levels of control. For damsonhop aphid, wherever possible use different active ingredients in a programme of treatments. Pear suckers resistant to one or more groups of insecticides are widespread. Where pear suckers resistant to products containing cypermethrin occur, TOPPEL 100 EC is unlikely to give satisfactory control. Where repeat treatments are necessary use different active ingredients. PROTECTION OF HONEY BEES TOPPEL 100 EC may be applied to oilseed rape and peas in flower as per the foregoing directions, but spraying should be confined to the late evening or early morning when the bees are not active. Only spray at other times of the day when bees are not foraging due to cool or cloudy weather. It is good practice to advise neighbourhood beekeepers not less than 48 hours in advance of spraying.
