1 Standard Abbreviations and Citation Format for Hegel Issue of C&H and the re.press Book of the Issue Style Guidelines 1. The preferred format is Microsoft Word, however, other formats are acceptable as well. We prefer that you apply little or no formatting to your paper as it will be reformatted by the layout editor just use the essentials: italic, bold, underlining, heading size etc.. 2. In general the Cosmos and History house style that is based on AGPS Style Manual which is a form of the Oxford System. See below for details. An output style file for the referencing computer program Endnote is available from Paul Ashton (paul.ashton@vu.edu.au or from the C&H website). Authors should use the footnoting facility in Microsoft Word, and are advised to use the footnoting program Endnote. 3. As this issue will be complied into a book we ask you to use first Oxford spellings from the standard British English Dictionary. Please note that first Oxford spelling uses a z and NOT and s as is commonly believed to be the case. Also of note: we use the our word ending and not or, e.g. labour and harbour. 4. Authors must also use footnotes. However, for frequently used texts please use Harvard style in-text citations, e.g. multiple citations of Hegel s book the Phenomenology of Spirit should be rendered in-text as (PS 65), or the Encyclopaedia Logic (EL 15). However details shall be specified in a footnote to the first reference even if you are using standard editions and abbreviations. Additionally please provide a reference list of cited works at the end of the document. 5. Also note the use of single quotation marks for quotes, and double marks for quotes inside quotes. 6. Authors should supply a bibliography at the end of the paper in addition to the footnotes. Books - Given and Surname name(s) of the author(s) (the surname should come first in the bibliography), - Title of the book (italicized), - Translator (preceded by trans. ), - Volume (preceded by vol. ), - Number of Volumes (followed by vols. ), - Edition (followed by ed. ), - Place, - Publisher, - Year, - Page(s). 1. When a German edition is cited it should follow the English citation if one is given, e.g. for example (SL 47/WL I 31). Hegel s works are cited by either page, section ( ) or paragraph ( ) number; Hegel s remarks (Anmerkungen) to his sections are cited by an accompanying R (e.g. EL 140 R); Hegel s additions (Zusätze) with an A (e.g. EN 140 A). When a citation is make of additions, remarks and sections at the same time they will be separated with a comma. Where there are multiple additions to a single section a number will be placed after the A (e.g. EL 136 A2).
